  1. I replaced my 582 with a 912 uls.  The 582 had a lot more weight in terms of mounts and stuff than the 912.  The 912 is a cleaner install.  When I picked up the 582 off the ground with everything attached firewall forward it felt heavier than the 912 firewall wall forward.  My CG did not change.  I recently purchased the zipper kit and that decreases the 912 weight by 4 lbs as well.

  2. I bought a used garmin 795 $1000 and a used gdl 39  $800.  That combo provides adsb transmit and receive. Any one else flying with a Adsb shows up on my garmin 795. Pretty cool to watch. I was flying a few days ago and did not see traffick headed toward me at 90 degrees until my garmin alerted me to their presence. I looked to my left, saw the plane coming. The garmin even shows their altitude. Adsb will help prevent collisions. We just had a midair collision death a few weeks back so I enjoy the added safety of Adsb

  3. A gopro hero 3+ or newer will blue tooth to your cell phone and you can see the video real time if you have a smart phone.

  4. Me and Super Avid Randy had a great time flying the Skewtna River this weekend.  Did some challenging landings.  On one landing I shaved the bushes pretty good to make it easier for the next pilot LOL.

  5. Thanks i dont want to buy something that i cant fly. It looks heavy with the redrive. What do you think it would be worth? no paper no reg. I appreciate your input since you have sold one. I saw where EDMO and a couple of others talked about a merlin maybe they can help. Thanks john

If its flying and in good shape $8,500 seems like a good point to start.

  6. The sube is very heavy.  The plane itself has more shoulder room than a kitfox or avid.   I had one in my garage for a while to finish building but never had the time so I sold it.  A company in Canada still provides parts.

  7. Huh, 'A grizzly broke into the cabin' and 'I had a good time' aren't phrases I'd put together.....

LOL.  That would not be a good time if I was there.  It happened a couple days before I arrived.  I was the first one there and walked up to the cabin.  The hair stood up on the back of my neck because all I had at the time was bear spray.  We spotted the grizzly later on the side of the mountain looking straight at us.  A little erie to say the least.

  8. Good Morning,

Wondering if anyone has tried VG's on the flaperon and if any benefit resulted.  I am not an aero expert so this may be a dumb suggestion to start with. Just a thought.

  9. I have a Garmin 795 with GDL installed in aircraft.  If another aircraft has a GDL installed their position will show up on my 795.  Last week I was flying around Mat-su valley and my 795 alerts me that an aircraft is headed towards me at 90 degrees.  I looked to my left and lo their it was.  I adjusted altitude and continued on my merry way and it passed underneath me. Personally I think all aircraft should be equipped with this type of safety feature.  Sometimes its impossible to see another aircraft in vicinity.  600 to 800 bucks for a GDL is cheap safety.

  10. I need to build new flaperons but Im not having much luck finding instructions/plans.  This is for a Model C with 30 foot wingspan.  We just acquired the airplane and it needs lots of TLC.  I have flown it several times but the current flaperons need to be replaced before further flight.  Looking for some guidance. Thanks!

Post some pictures of your existing ones.  Can they be refurbished?

  11. In the Matsu Valley we have a 20 mile abandoned railroad construction that stretches through pristine wilderness for about 20 miles.  Great for practicing take off and landing's without interruptions.  Great place to see moose and the occasional bear.
