Flaperon AngleHello Everyone,
What is the maximum angle setup for the flaperons before cross control takes over. How do I setup the wing to measure the angle correctly?
Thanks for your help.

Exactly!!! Now I feel much more comfortable pushing the speed envelope on landing because it feels solid.

I have not checked my stall speed yet. Will be doing that this weekend. My overall biggest problem before VG's was the sink rate on landing once the craft was below a certain speed.

Gun Case on StrutHi All,
I have seen many bush planes with gun cases on the strut. Never heard of an issue but have not seen an Avid Flyer with a case on the strut. Do any of you do this? Is it safe?
Thanks

VG's for AVID FlyerI finally got StolSpeed VG's installed on my wing 4 inches back and on the horizontal stab 4 inches from Gap. The results are incredible. Before installed my plane would start sinking drastically at 50 mph. With VG's it floats in nicely at 45. I can slow fly at 35 to 38 and it feels stable. The tail raises off the ground quicker. With the 912 uls I can take off 3/4 throttle in 75 feet. The torque is such that full throttle forces the plane to the left even with right rudder. I have heard that installing vg's on the vertical stab eliminates this problem. I am trying this next. With the VG's the plane fells way less squirrely. Definitely worth the investment. If any of you are aware of different VG's that have an even better effect on the AVID let me know. The slower the better landing backcountry. The StolSpeed VG's seem very tiny compared to others and I wonder if the larger VG's create a stronger vortex over the wing to help lift.
Additionally I have seen some planes with what looks like wind dams at end of wing (using my terminology). Do these do anything to improve slow flight?

Quick Disconnect For Brake LinesHello,
I am looking for a quick disconnect for the clear 1/4 inch OD brake line from Matco. George with Matco says parker has it but they cant seem to locate it. I need the ability to quick disconnect my brake line when I switch my floats. George says there are fittings that close off the fluids from both ends when disconnected. Do you guys have any idea of a part number, supplier, etc?
Thanks for you help

the weight difference depends on setup. My 582 with all the mounts, radiators etc weighed nearly the same as a cleaner installed rotax 912 that had a much simpler mount.

If I would have been flying a 582 I would have went in trees ahead. That rotax 912 with Gods help pulled me out of that mess. I could feel the drag once I got into the marsh. The 100 hp overcame the drag to give me enough lift. In my opinion more power is always better in emergencies.

I would purchase 6" wheels. They look better and are affordable at matco. Also opens up a larger playing field in terms of tires.

Pucker BushesSo I experienced the "pucker bush" saying this weekend. Went to land at a gold mine and applied brakes but nothing happened. I have the matco double puck brakes. Once a pad is contaminated with brake fluid its toast. My disk and pads got saturated with brake fluid. So I landed long and on top of that I had no brakes. Notice my tail wheel mark just before the creek. I managed to pull out just in time. When I got home I had green stains on my main gear and tail wheel. Moral of the story. Dry brakes are good brakes. According to matco once a pad comes in contact with brake fluid the friction is no longer the same even if cleaned.

Float Rigging TensionsHope everyone has a fun 4th planned. I was curious if there is a standard tension that cables should be on float rigging. I have not read anything yet that specifies.
Thanks

lv2plyguitar added a post in a topic Left flaperion hinge failure.
Thanks for this post. It motivated me to inspect the hinge points on the flaperon. The wood was not rotting but the top part of the wood was delaminating. I epoxied the wood and am fiber glassing the extensions. Definitely something to pay attention to. My plane has been inside for 99.9% of its life. My guess is the dry wood getting wet one time and the drying again caused the delamination.

AVID On FloatsThese are the original AVID floats. Floats have never been installed since new. I was surprised they bolted right up without any tweaking. Need to rig the rudder next and then I will be off looking for king salmon.
