Hey Chuck,
Can you bring the seat cushions to the EAA meeting with you?
Thanks

Go to this web site and look in upper left corner of schematic. That is the cover you need. It is part 19, 20, etc.

The Merlin fuselage is about 2 feet longer than the AVID plus. My jaw about hit the ground when I say the wing depth. They make the wing on my previous avid look like sticks. The 912 is a common engine for the Merlin. Randy flys a Subaru in his AVID plus. I don't forsee any issues with a 0-200. One issue I am looking at is being able to run 87 octane. The 0-200 needs some modifications to top dead clearance to make that happen. I also want to change the landing gear. The original gear looks puny on this Merlin. I am going to probably fab large gear with an additional connection point on each side of fuselage.

Hey do you guys knows if I am required to maintain a 0-200 in a certified FAA condition if I put it in the merlin, or does it become experimental like the plane at that point. I found a 0-200 complete with all accessories through my aircraft mechanic friend. He says the engine had a very light prop strike.
Thanks

Merlin GTHi Folks. Randy got me back into the flying business. Bought a Merlin GT without engine or main landing gear for $500. I am going to strip it down and rebuild as a parts built experimental. Does anyone know how to start that process with the FAA?
Randy, The third picture is one I found just searching the internet. This photo is from 2003. Amazing that is the exact same airplane. Look at the tail numbers.
Alaska Pilots. Who would you trust locally to build a motor mount for a 0-200 continental.
Thanks

Alaska Bush TiresI saw these on craigslist for sale. They are just like Randy's on his AVID Plus. If I still had my AVID I would buy them.

I am out for a whileSorry to say I sold my AVID. My family is in get out of debt mood and plan on staying there until all debts are gone. I hope by this time next year to be back in the sky.
Thanks for all of the information shared on this forum that made a huge difference in the safety of my experience while training for my license.
Randy Tyler was a huge help in flying off phase 1 for me and preparing me for the CFI. Thanks Randy. Leni was key in helping me understand some issues with the rotax 582. Thanks Leni.

New Sport Pilot Regs In the MakingEAA has recently requested that the FAA add Cessna 150 and 152's as aircraft that can be flown with a sport pilots license. I hope it passes.

lv2plyguitar added a post in a topic Good lord it's no wonder two-strokes get a bad rap
I was one of those asking stupid questions. I believe I was asking questions that may have appeared very simple but I have a certain level of paranoia when messing with an aircraft engine. There are things that logically I probably could have answered my own question. But sure enough as soon as I assumed something then it could be a fatal mistake. I hope that you guys don't get irritated with me in the future as I know that I will ask some stupid question. I would much rather appear air headed than 6 foot under with my wife wondering what to do next.
I do agree that there are some scary simple people out there who make you hold your breath hoping they make it through the next phase of learning to fly.

Yeah, You must be able to backstroke at least 10 miles in 40 degree water. If you pass the test you get a certificate.

Okay, I did notice that. When making a left turn with aileron only it rises above the horizon and then to right and then starts turning left. My CFI made the assumption that my plane is a rudder airplane because of that behavior. How good is Airdale about getting that part out. It seems like it takes forever if he answers the phone.

Hey Leni, I just got off the phone with EAA. They said I do not need to involve a dpe for float training in my airplane. It is just treated as a add on after instruction.

I was told by the cfi that with experimental home built it can be treated as an add on with an endorsement. I did the checkride in my aircraft with the dpe. There are two in the state. There is a big push right now to raise the weight limits for a sport pilot. I hope it passes.

What exactly does this mod do and is it very noticeable when actually flying? I have never noticed adverse yaw with my model c but maybe I never looked for it.

lv2plyguitar added a post in a topic tailwheel spring rear support
My leaf spring is a double. One fits nicely in the channel, the other is slightly in the channel. I overcame your fear by placing Raychem heat shrink tubing over both springs behind the channel closer to the wheel and heat shrinking them together. That stuff is tough and will not rip. This keeps the second spring from moving side to side.

I passedIt's finally over. I passed my oral and flight exam on Sunday. Been a long haul and my wallet is a little thinner. If any of you are wondering how the process was just ask. My examiner was very detailed and it was a challenge.
