    This is what i will do today: 1)  install new lighter springs on Matco tailwheel ( strongest ones Matco sells).  I will leave them slightly loose.  2) I have a battery box at very rear of plane.  I will do calculation to see if moving the battery to that box gives me about 16" aft.  if that does not work out I will buy some divers weights and put them in box to get to 16".  3) add 7.5 gallons of fuel per side which will move cg aft a little.  4)  see about using the grass strip between runway and taxiway for landing.  5)After i get the cg where I want it i will do some fast taxi to see how it performs.
    There is a gravel strip about 30 miles away.  Think i will go there and do a bunch of landings.

    That missing chain was the only damage during my ground loop incident.  I lost control shortly after touchdown, departed the runway into the grass, bounced 3 times, ended up on the taxiway 100 feet away heading the opposite direction !!  I missed the ILS lights by 30 feet !!

    BTW, forgot to mention, My Avid has a Raven Redrive G10 engine with turbo, and it is overweight.  weighs 710 #.  Gets off the ground pretty quick but climb is slow.  Payson is 5,000 feet.

    Thank You guys for all the posts.  There is much more to this story.  I have 1700 flying hours.  About 1400 of those hours are in taildragger.  I bought this Avid in 2010 as a project and just finished it a few days ago.  I finished it last July and got Faa signoff but did not like how it handled on the ground.  Found out it had massive toe-in.  Decided to install grove gear.  Then found I needed new wheels tires and brakes.  Went with Matco and foolishly bought the large 21" tires.  Also i am flying it on asphalt.   I am going to order small tires on Monday.  I have a trailer and have found a dirt strip not far away.  I added very strong springs to the Matco tailwheel so I could steer better while taxiing.  I would welcome any imput from you tailwheel experts on the good and bad of that move ?  The springs are so strong the tailwheel will not breakaway.  Also the CG is very forward, still in the envelope but near the forward end.

    My name is Bill Poore and I live in Payson AZ.  I just finished my Avid Mark 4 STOL and am doing flight testing.  It is a taildragger and my landings have been scary.  Am thinking I will change to tricycle gear.  Does anyone have detailed drawings from a builders manual to accomplish this ?

    Hello All
    I am just finishing recovering the wings on my Avid Marki 4 STOL. I want to buy a spray outfit and am considering a HVLP. I found a Fuji online for around $550.00. I would like some imput. Is hvlp good or do you all like a regular compressor setup more?

    I decided to order the pitot tube from Spruce for experimental planes. Received it today will install tomorrow then cover the wing Thursday. The pitot tube looks very nice. I am recovering the wings and learned how to rib lace today (it was not easy for me)

    Thanks Bryce, I went ahead and ordered one of those static ports from Spruce. I also ordered the experimental pitot tube from Spruce. I like the looks of it and it will be an easy install (I think) Had to make a snap decision as I want to get the wings covered before Oct 15. Thanks for the help.

    pitot tube
    I have an Avid Mark 4 STOL which I bought as a project. It has not flown. Am in process of recovering wings. I am not crazy about the pitot system on this bird. I like the look of the one Spruce has for about $150.00. Anyone have any suggestions ? The pitot tube on the plane now is just aluminum tube with a pipe fitting and a slight flare pointing into airflow.

    The black hose going through the spar on my Avid got smashed and is unusable. Does anyone know where to get new tubing ? It is 1/4" parker tube.

    Hi Ed, Installed the first wingtip, The RH one. It was so easy, all the work was already done. It is much stronger than the bow tip and better looking. I will cover over the light holders with fabric and install thelm later. I will find out what wiris to install and run wires now before I cover the wing. Thank you.

    Hi Ed, finally sent your check. About the time you sent them 2 things happened. I got very sick and ended up in emergency room. Then when I recovered a little my computer went south so could not recaver your address. Theln when got computer going your address was gone. When package arrrived it had your address on it. Looks like I will be able to use all the mounting tubes and I will splice the one which is cut.

    Hi Ed,don't worry about TE material. I am replacing about 6' of my trailing edge due to hangar rash anyway. I will probably run wire to lights and cover with fabric then add lights later. Once you get boxed up and give me ship cost I will send you a fast UPS letter with cashiers check !!

    Does anyone out there have or know of a used or new flaperon (RH) for Avid Mark 4 STOL. It could be used or new,painted or unpainted. They may be interchangeable from RH to LH (I will find out later today) I have attempted to repair mine but am not totally satisfied with result.

    fiberglass leading edge
    I am building an Avid Mark 4 STOL. I had a lot of repairs to do in one wing and have decided to recover both wings. I just ordered all the fabric and material from Spruce today. I am studying the manual and looking at the optional fiberglass leading edge ( mine does not have this ) Does anyone have any experience with thils option? If yes how much weight does it add and is it worth the trouble ? Mine also does not have the fiberglass wing tips and I am interested in that option.
    Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
