I used to sit in the Alaska Regal resturant and watch all the planes with waterwings taking off from Lake Hood - always thought the rope trailing behind might be the water hose !

Since none of us knows what the future holds - going to get my 2c worth in while I can.
    Thanks,

Do you know what these sold for new? Was that just the spring unit, or included wheel & tire/tube?
I sent a PM to Chris B., but no answer yet. Wonder if he is still using it?
I guess as a last resort, I will put this on the bathroom scales and see how much of my 175 pounds it takes to crunch it.

Not saying you are wrong - but why have an "airworthiness Inspection" - to see if cotter pins are bent right?
I would prefer to stay with some of the FAA regs, and 43-13, and hope for the best.
BUT, I am just an old AMT/A&P and the FAA only approves schools that tell you to "remove and replace what the manufacturer did" - never to innovate!
Being a new "manufacturer" is sometimes shakey territory where you face the unknown, and I tend to go with the "known". I know that plastic can crack or melt without a fire, and maybe cause one.
Thats my 2c worth. Like you say, "we are experimental" - use garden hose if it works for you!

edit: But, at least, I would use neoprene fuel hose from autoparts that can take alcohol.

Russia is pretty secretive ! And no one down here knows we have another state on the other side of the Cannucks !
Doug I hope you dont need water wings to get to your hanger. Let us know how you come out of this disaster.

I will sure need some time in one before testing mine - if I ever get finished - Too much time in other models, and hardly any in the Fox for too many years. Hopefully, someone in Missouri will offer a ride someday.

  10. EDMO added a post in a topic Avid aftermarket spring-loaded nose gear info wanted

I havent received the nose gear yet - believe it has solid sides and 5" tire - My design only has a couple of Belleville washers to make friction to keep shimmy down, but can add more - Solid heavy mount, and fork like Tripacer or C207, and 6x600 tire which takes the shock of touchdown - not like flimsy tube that KF uses - dont like bouncing and porpoising or collapsing on rough ground - dont fly on rocks down here either - mostly grass or concrete.

    Thanks Stephen,
I have seen this video - the Challenger is a pusher and light in front - was wondering how much weight this will support - I have Soob - Got my own design which is solid and no springs - Thought this might be an alternative, but have my doubts. Didnt know that they were out of business. Might sell it someday.

Leni - NOT that it really matters - but this site is KOOKOO on post times - one time I get on and your post above is listed as 11:30 AM, and the next time I see it, it is listed as 4:30 PM in the index.....And, believe that my time is somewhere in Mexico or China, and one time it will agree with my clock and others it may be 8 hours off.
AS I SAID: NOT THAT IT REALLY MATTERS! JUST WONDERING WHY? At least we can still communicate well.......

P.S. 1030 PM here and still waiting for you to get out of that "couple hour meeting" since about noon today, OR - have I been waiting since 4:30???! Dont take much to confuse me....I sleep days - sometimes!!!!!

    WHAT DOES "MULTIQUOTE" DO?
I see "multiquote" in the listings of "reply", "delete", "edit" - Does this mean you can grab the post and put it somewhere else - just wondering if I could move my leading edge photos to a new post.

  15. EDMO added a post in a topic 912 ULS EBAY WARNING - DONT GET BIT!

Sorry for confusion - I dont need the mains - just thought it might be an investment - I have grove main and Matco w600 wheels brakes. Meant to put this on new topic and goofed. Just got the Part that attaches to the Avid nose piece, and tire and wheel for it. need info - but have my own design that I may use instead - I'm a little skeptical of the spring-loading - mine is solid.

912 ULS EBAY WARNING - DONT GET BIT!
DOUG AND I corresponded by messages some time ago when there was a 912 ULS on Ebay auction at a very low price - Doug got slightly bitten by some spam from the ad, and ebay pulled the ad.
This ad has been on ebay 2 more times and has just been pulled again.
There may be legitimate 912s on ebay - but this one really stinks - It was about $510 the last two times I saw it, or in the notes below it said you could buy it for $2500 with free shipping.
Just wanted all to BE AWARE OF SCAMS!

When you cut your longerons - Someone was asking some time ago "what wall thickness?" - I think it will be .035, but interested builders might like to read your info on it.

Whatever you do, I would use a bulkhead fitting thru firewall - and fireproof hose from there to carb. Think FAA will frown on anything less.

Weights on my ailerons will be internal - steel tube in leading edge - enough lead shot and epoxy stuffed into it to balance. Is that photo an Avid or Kitfox? - HS looks high on VS.

    JIM,
If you got to forum index and scroll all the way down until you see "files and forms" where Doug Holly posted the Harry Ribblet letter and the drawing of his extended leading edge and rib for the Soob engine drivers, you will see about what I have done - although I stayed with the original profile and my ribs still have the undercamber. There is also a letter there about putting VGs on BOTTOM of LE, and gave the guy 10 mph more cruise with undercambered ribs.
I posted a photo of my 1 1/4 inch .032 aluminum tube LE with plywood supports somewhere in all these posts. Maybe you can find the photo. If not, let me know. Got the upper 1mm plywood on top now, and starting on bottom - 12 inches top - 6 inches bottom - extended LE 4 inches per Riblett. Planning to cover plywood with polyfelt before fabric.

I have a hard copy. ED
again: Well, Dummy here just found "files and forms" in forum index, and it is first article there, and Doug posted a picture and rib coordinates there. My photos are on page 4 Avidfoxflyers Hanger, halfway down page.

Depends on amount of extension - If it is only the plastic Kitfox LE, or a short aluminum Avid LE, then all should be about the same. You can use factory measurements from the front of the front spar where it attaches to fuselage, or add the 1/2 LE.
If you extend 4 inches, like mine, then you remeasure the wing chord - Aerodynamic Center (AC) should be at about 25% Chord - Forward CG at about 16%, and aft CG at about 30%.
If wings have been raked forward, then your figures are all Kapoot! Then, you have to calculate averages.
For weight and balance computations, use the factory measurements from original front spar, or add your extension to factory numbers and measure from new LE.
