TJay was building Kitfox 1 wings, but it would be the same with Avid wings.  EDMO

My selling door closed today - reporting to hospital Monday for more treatments - might be able to do something the week of 22 to 26 Jan.?
Barry,  I will try to find VGs this weekend.   EDMO

Agree - Kitfox handles are almost useless when wings are folded.  EDMO

Photo can be deceiving, but I wonder about fore and aft location of your axles - If that taller gear puts the axle farther forward, then it could be an Avid gear or one that someone built, which is good.  I would guess the smaller gear is original Kitfox 1 size.  I have a set in the hanger but cant get there to measure until next weekend.  If I had to make one side, then I would copy the taller wider heavier gear.  EDMO

TJay,  Why did you have to cut the front?  If they were too long, which I think they are, couldn't you cut the trailing edge or cut the attaching edge and mount them at an angle?  Looks like you did a good job fitting them to the undercambered wing - Just asking if there was another option.  Good Show,  EDMO

Electric company has a large reservoir on top of that 1700 foot Tom Sauk Mountain - They release the water down a chute to generate electricity half of the day, and spend the other half of the day pumping the water back to the top - Guess it works?
I think Mt. Whitney is the tallest mountain in the lower 48.  14,000 feet is outer space to us flatlanders!  Around here, anything over 1000 feet is "High Country" - Mostly its just dodging tall towers at that altitude!  Getting too many of them for scud-running.   EDMO

Our highest "Mountain" is 1700 MSL, and its in a MOA, so I usually avoid it.   EDMO

Is climbing to 10K mandatory Phase 1 testing?  I get dizzy more than 4K MSL - Have to stop at Hays, Kansas to acclimate before going on to Denver!   ;<)   EDMO

Final note on this:  Since I extended the leading edges of my wings about 4", the standard Fox tips are too short - I was lucky enough to find some light weight aftermarket Cessna 210 semi-drooped tips that are long enough to fit my wings.  Should work great.
7 degrees tapering out from front to rear is supposed to produce less drag.  EDMO

Joey,  Since I am not an IA, FSDO, or DAR, I have never done an initial Airworthiness Inspection - My understanding, and maybe concerns, are same as yours - I think possibly that "all systems have to be working" which would be different than a Condition Inspection, but I don't know.   Possibly, he could just note that it needs to be certified before use?  His answer would be interesting to hear.  EDMO

A transponder is not required with an electrical system - if you stay out of their controlled airspace.   Since you don't have a MEL (Minimum Equipment List) like factory planes, I think you could put an "INOP" sticker on it and be airworthy, but the inspector decides that.  If I was doing a condition inspection, I would put a note that "Transponder must be certified before flying into airspace that requires its use.   EDMO

You are lucky Joey to live there.  Day and night temps in Mizery are hovering around Zero F, and not enough snow to use skis.  Barometer near record at 30.85.   Guess that is better than the 60" of snow up in PA, but still keeps me inside and grounded.   EDMO

I would think that vibration-movement of muffler would be more up-down strain?  Guess whatever works?  OMG $119 for a 25-cent piece of aluminum angle and two bolts! - Not even Gold Plated?  Holy Ripoff Batman!   EDMO

Very true - According to what I have read about the ceramic coatings - Donno how it would affect the 2-stroke exhausts any differently than the 4-strokes, but the written articles say that it interferes with the exhaust pipes function to dissipate heat from the engine and could even cause exhaust valve burning.   Sometimes good intentions have bad results!  EDMO
