65% trails, 20% lakes, 15% my property (utility).

My business partner has a 2009 E-Tec 600 SkiDoo. Yes, very nice machine. Too much money for my cheap nature...

    Snowmobiles
I know there are a lot of snowmobilers (snowmachiners?) on this board.

I sold off my sleds back in about 2000. My last machines were two little '97 Polaris 440s. They were light and fun. Unfortunately, where I lived I got very little use out of them without hauling them on the trailer first. So they went away.

Where I live now, we are in better snow country and right near the trail. I'm thinking of making the plunge again.

    Here's the deal:

    I don't need to go 100 mph.
I don't like to spend a lot of money.
    I don't like 2-strokes. (Sorry, I know that's a sin around here.)

What do you guys know about the early 4-stroke sleds? The early to mid 2000's sleds. I know Yamaha is (was?) the benchmark in that arena. The new BRP-SkiDoo machines are probably better, but at $10K + each that is way too much for my blood. I'd like to start researching now and look for one to buy this or next summer...

    Thoughts, comments?

  6. Av8r3400 added a post in a topic Start up without prop

A Rotax 912 will start and run just fine without a prop installed.

This is one of the ways to get a plane with a weak sprag clutch started and warmed up for an easy start once the prop is reinstalled.

My premium is something like $800: $500 liability (1 million) and $300 hull ($40k).

I've had very good luck with using the insurance services from the EAA. Call the "800" number on your membership card (if you are a member - if not, why not??).

I'm with Falcon Insurance, through EAA, liability and "not in motion" hull coverage.

I guess videos come and go on YouTube... To keep the audio delete from happening, all you need to do is credit the music. Look at the credits at the end of this video:

I went ski flying last Saturday.

    Egypt is a mess.

    Leni is fairly ugly.

    The American Government is corrupt.

    Joey is too young.

    I'm running short on firewood.

    What else you wanna know?

I used to have a video on YouTube of an approach to Sun 'n Fun 2010, but those bastards deleted it for no reason. My old laptop will lockup when ever I try an do video stuff any more, so the vids will have to wait on a new computer....

    Jim--

Brett (owner of Airdale) is a personal friend of mine. He is easy to work with and will put together what ever parts you need, be it an entire kit or only sub-components.

He is a one man show, with a young family, so his time is always in very short supply.

If you are thorough with your explanation of what you want and realistic in your time expectations, he will be able to help you.

    Airdale Fly In
Brett has announced he is hosting a ski Fly-In at his home/shop on February 26th.

Food will be served from 10 to 2-ish. Some of you know about this, now you all do!

Location: Lake Hildebrand, Northern Wisconsin - 5 Miles south of the City of Rhinelander.

    N 45° 32.98'
    W 89° 25.98'

The lake has good snow on it and is a little over 2000' long, east to west.

I'll be there. I hope to see some of you there, too.

That plane is still under construction, so no data yet.

The builder is a friend of Dean Wilson (the designer of the Avid Flyer) and has gone over his plans with Dean and they believe that the handling will be very spry similar to a clipped wing Piper.
(Short wing Piper death trap. )

Like a short wing Piper, they don't expect the stall speed to be drastically higher than the standard wing, somewhere in the 45 mph range. But the roll rate, well...

Here's some pictures of Dave's Sputzy. The "champ" rudder mod, early phase of the wide body kit (before he cut out and canned the Avid mixer in favor of the Kitfox IV unit), the last picture is Dave, standing in front of his last project, a 150 hp Clipper that stands a very, very good chance of bringing home a trophy from Airventure 2011.

kinou-- In regard to the Kitfoxes, the model 4 and later Kitfoxes all have the same wing rib profile. This profile is a laminar flow, higher speed wing than the earlier Kitfoxes and Avids. This wing CAN be shortened. One friend here is building a Kitfox with a 24' wing. (Full span is 32')

The videos on YouTube showing a Kitfox doing aerobatics is a model 4, with a 29' wing, Rotax 912UL and very few other modifications.
