    Not a good day today
Here in the Midwest we have these little phenomena called Tornadoes.

One when through our little town today. The airport was ground zero. The hangar I am in is one of only a very few that did not sustain any damage. It also missed our home and property by less than a quarter mile... We are counting our blessings.

Zero, like what Joey has is best, but if you must, toe out on a tail dragger is more stable than toe in.

Just trying to get final pricing information out of Brett for you guys.

Brett made his with 3/4" but made Dave's (the one in the photos) for 1-1/4", so he can go either way. Dave is running Cleveland wheels and brakes he got from another buddy's wrecked Kitfox IV.

Also, if you look closely at the photos, these gear are completely bolt on. No welding or other airframe mods needed.

    Airdale Spring Gear
I got together with Brett a little bit this weekend at our buddy Dave's place where he is working on his Avid-Kitfox hybrid. These are the prototype "spring" gear from Airdale. They are based on the "wide" gear that Brett already sells.

Here's some photos of the plane and the gear:

Funny, we just got another 16" of snow on Wednesday. So wet and heavy that is not ski-able...

Mark - I was sorry you couldn't make it over to the Airdale "ski-in". Maybe next year.

    Good lookin' tail ski...

I ride 1000 miles/day on my HD. I have highway pegs that place my feet in front of me. Very comfortable. That is how my old Polaris sleds were. Never had back/knee pain after riding.

I don't think it's the suspension. I think it is the body position...

Update: I went for about a 100 mile ride last night with my business partner on one of his sleds, a 2005 Skidoo Renegade 600.

What the f**k is up with these stupid "rider forward" design sleds?? Without a doubt that was the most uncomfortable riding position I have ever experienced!! My knees and back are destroyed today! I never felt this beat up on my little Polaris sleds!

Are all the new sleds like this?? Maybe I need to look for 10 year old sleds instead...

Maybe some more detial is in order...

The front mount swings at the trailer towing mount and at the ski. The rear is mounted to the spring in the rear. It swings back as it compresses.

Jim and another guy I know with an Avid have run that "ski" design for better than 10 years.

We don't have the snow quantities to cause the scenario that you describe.

It would be a lot easier to do what my buddy building the Avid-Kitfox hybrid is doing.

Get yourself a model IV Kitfox flapperon mixer and install it. Way better all around...

Some photos. Had to leave earlier that I wanted due to the weather coming in. I landed at home (20 minute flight) under serious IFR conditions. (500' ceiling, 1/2 mile visibility and snow).

Jody (Brett's wife) made ham sandwiches, chicken with wild rice soup (awesome) and other miscellaneous munchies, soda, coffee and hot chocolate.

    You guys missed out...

Weren't there some Avid-Fox clones out there available as "plans built"? The Canadian "Raven" comes to mind as being one...

You'll never get anything from Kitfox.

You might get Brett from Airdale to comment for you, but for liability reasons maybe not.

There are plenty of bent or uncompleted kits out there. Why not go that way?

Okay. I knew that was a long shot, GE is a huge organization...

We just lost a long time member of our EAA Chapter that I (very regrettably) didn't get to know well, Bob Payzer. Very brilliant man with an extremely interesting work history with GE in their Gas Turbine Engineering area. He'll be greatly missed.
