I know winter if in full swing up there, but wondering if you found out anything else about your engine?  JImChuk

I guess my (maybe alzheimers assisted) memory isn't as bad as I thought, hey Ed.  :-)    Thanks for digging up the manual pages.  According to the first page, the slot is there to keep the flaperons from binding under heavy load conditions.   Second page says the Speedster gets the 2 weights per flaperon.   JImChuk

Here is an example of shipping costs..  I recently sent a Warp Drive 2 blade prop and hub back to their factory with USPS.  The package was about 5" X 7" X 38" and weighed about 10 lbs.  It cost Just under $15.  I was expecting more to tell the truth.  I thought that was very reasonable, and with USPS, it doesn't cost any more to ship across the country, one price does all.  The priority mail if it fits it ships boxes can be a real deal if you are shipping small but heavy items.  I sold a couple of sets of large truck brakes a few years ago.  I had a real hard time getting them into the larger sized  box, but did.  The box must have weighed near 50 lbs, and it still shipped for the regular price which I think then was about $16.50  JImChuk

Something in the back of my mind is telling me that the speedster Kitfox 4 classic went with 2 weights, and the flaperon maybe had the skin cut in the middle of the flaperons.  I don't have my manuals handy to find it right now though.  Both of my Kitfox 4 classics have a single weight for each flaperon.  Both are long wings though.   JImChuk
PS    I reread my post, and if it wasn't clear, I meant to say 2 weights per flaperon (4 total)

Good one guys  :-) I read them to my dearest, and she just smiled.  She really and truly is a sweetheart.  I better outlive her, cause she is going to have tons of stuff to  get rid of otherwise.....JImChuk

Here was my favorite (not really) example of shipping from ACS.  I ordered some small parts from them plus 2 yards of ultralight fabric.  I ended up getting two boxes from them cause they cut the fabric in a different area (supposedly)  The fabric was folded up, and was about the size of a wash cloth folded up.  Shipping cost was $9.60 for the fabric which cost about $8.  When I called them and complained, they ended up giving me back the $9.60.  Now I aways question them about shipping.  Wag aero will use USPS in an envelope for smaller items if you ask for it.  Be nice, but ask "what is the cheapest way to ship this".  I'll laugh a bit and tell how I've had a few tiny parts shipped and the shipping was more than the part.  (true) They are helpful if they can be, I've found.  Wag aero will let you order from them and LEAF and ship it together.   JImChuk

Here is a link to a post about seat truss reinforcement among other things.  You can find the picture of how I beefed my seat truss there.  (yellow plane, about 20 posts from the start)  This is a very important area to beef up.  Many seat trusses have been bent.  ( I know of 4 in Avids I've owned, although I didn't do all of them)  I'm just wondering if the under seat supports you are putting in will cost you in head room.  The fabric seat and fiberglass seat go below the seat truss somewhat I believe.  What kind of seat are you using?  JImChuk

Originally it was going to be make and model endorsements, but it was changed to category and class by the time it became law.  None the less, your insurance co. may make you get some time with a CFI in a different plane before they will insure you.  JImChuk

Ya, it's more like category and class then make and model.  I have a chart that lists all the different catagories, but didn't find it on my laptop now when I looked for it.  JImChuk

That is actually an A box.  On a B box, you will see bolts holding it on and together, not studs and nuts like the A box ( yours) has.  Not a bad price for everything none the less.  Only the latest 532s would accept a B box.  On second thought, If you can put a dial indicator on the prop hub and confirm that it's running true, I would take the gearbox for half price if some one wants the rest of the parts for the rest of the price.  JImChuk

Bit of a misnomer on the make and model.  Catagorys  are tail dragger, below 100 MPH, tail dragger 100- 138 MPH, tricycle gear  same speed groups as tail dragger, skis, same way, floats same way.  Then there are trikes, gyrocopters, and powered parachutes as well.  JImChuk

I've ordered stuff from them, kept the tubing under 8' which is the longest UPS will carry, and never got charged that much.  I'm up in Mn. so that's further than you.  I also order from Wag Aero in Wi.  Leading Edge Airfoils is now part of the same company, and you can make orders from both catalogs and they will arrive in the same box if you tell them to do it that way.  JImChuk

I've been flying Avids with a sport pilot license for about 11 years..  Second one in Mn.  Never had the FAA question it, and they have had opportunities what with engine out/emergency landing/crash.  Ect. Ect.  JImChuk

I actually did the same as you with the bottom rib stiching.  When I said that I started ribstiching behind the aluminum in an earlier post, I guess I was referring to the top fabric, and not punching holes in the aluminum to stich though it.  Jim Chuk

Well Ken,  let me just say that I think you should "always look on the bright side of life"  :-)  Actually watched that video yesterday.  Keep working on the project.  A finished, flying plane is worth way more than a project.  (and a lot more pleasant to fly)   :-0   Got to thinking more about it and your quote is from an earlier Monty Python movie then the life of brian.   JImChuk

Hibbing MN.  They have done quite a few engines for me.  Although, any good snowmobile shop with a good mechanic should be able to do your engine if you don't want to do it yourself.   JImChuk

Here is yet another round cowl, or nearly round anyway.  It might give more vision over the top of the cowl.   If you look at about  4.05 of the video, you will see he has been practicing the Jim Chuk method of landing.  Just about got it nailed, maybe one more bounce and he would have it  ;-)  Well it is getting better...really  JImChuk

When you go over a solid surface (at least with polyfiber system) you coat the area with poly brush before you cover it.  Then when you brush the poly brush through the fabric, it gets glued down to the plywood, or in my case, aluminum.   JImChuk

Right you are Joey, Rotax prices are loosely based on what the part would be worth if it was made out of gold.  At least it seems that way.  The last Mk IV I bought had a cold seizure before I got it.  Had the cylinders bored out to next size up, and replaced pistons, wristpins, bearings and rings.  Aftermarket gasket set.  Local shop did the work for me, and I had about $1000 in it when it was done.  They do good work, and seem to be very reasonable in their prices.  Had them go through the Kitfox 1 582 also.   I had them reseal, check and align  crank, and decarbon cylinders cost me $407 using an aftermarket gasket set.  JImChuk

The last set of Avid wings I covered had the aluminum sheet on top of the ribs.  I had the materials on hand, so I rib stiched the wings.  Started right after the aluminum.  Might have been 1" back of the aluminum to the first stich.  JImChuk
