  1. Hard to Find , Special Order  Got this today for my Kitfox. Since the temp for the 582 is critical, this is way easier to read than the smaller westech dial guages

  2. Greetings.

I'm am looking for copies of Service Bulletins #2 and #3 For the KitFox II . I went to the Kitfox Manufacture site and went to the Service Bulletin Download area. When I tried to download SB #2 and SB#3  SB # 1 Downloaded instead. I think I emailed KitFox but I did FaceBook them and someone stated they would pass it on. Never heard anything else. Hoping someone out there has copies. I did a web search and found # 3 but it had typing over top of the bulletin haking it unreadable

Thanks , Safe Living & Flying

  3. Here is the same reply I posted on TeamKitfox a few minutes ago.

When I had to replace the cap on my 582 powered kitfox, I just took the old one to an auto parts store and told them I wanted a 13 psi cap. Guy walked in the back and came out with a 13 psi cap. Now this was a sort of old time auto parts store with an older guy who actually looked like he knew how to work on a car, not Autozone or O'Reillys where the workers are high school kids who think working on a car means putting bullet hole stickers on it, or installing the largest speaker known to man.

Yep I know what you mean.

  4. Mike, If you can measure across the top of the opening of the fill tube in picture 3, I may have a filler tube like that in the hangar.  I could look to see if there was a cap with a part number on it.  JImChuk

Not at the Plane However , the measurement of the radiator cap the top gasket that fits on the rim is 2 inches, the lower gasket is 1 1/2'  thats on the spring that seats inside .

  5. The 1993 KitFox II with a Rotax 582 model 90 gray head I recently purchased and now working on the conditional inspection . The Radaitor Cap was the 6-8 PSi one that needed to be changed to the 13 psi one. Searching all forums I was lead to a cheap alternative which was a Motorbike Radiator Cap A Triumph part number T2108005 I found one and ordered it For around $25. Great. well when I got it it was to small. was the information wrong? So much time was wasted looking for it I decided to go ahead and and order the Rotax part number 922-072 from Leading Edge Airfoil. Well guess what it to was to small and the Triumph was an exact match.
Leading Edge suggested calling KitFox cause he thought they shipped out the caps with the kits and that it was proably a standared automotive Cap. I was able to supply the Listed part number from the build manual E-62- Kitfox did not have a match for the Cap- He did search and found some histroy that Denny AeroCraft, purchased the radiator caps from a local parts store. They did not use the cooling system from Rotax. no parts number available. Wonder how much other automotive parts were used? I going to return part to Leading edge unless someone want to buy it, I also have the Triumph clone cap for sale.
So before I go to the auto parts store and They ask what vehicke is it for? so they can lookit up on the computer cause they don't know how to find parts otherwise.
Does any one have an autopart number for the automotive cap I need ?
    Ill try to add photos
Ist photo is the Triumph Cap any my old Cap 2nd Triumph part number,.3 filler neck on plane  4 My cap and thr Rotax cap,
Thanks for any feedback and hope this helps some of us with the older kits

  6. You can pull it out and adjust the arm on the float. Aircraft Spruce also sells them. It is a bendable arm or can be shortened, depending on what you need.

Great, Thanks Allen for comming through again for me.

  7. Greetings,
I have searched forums and only found mention of tube type wing fuel guages. I have a KF2 with 6 gal aluminum tanks with the below fuel guages pictures. One Guage shows below the empty mark when empty unlike the other which appears normal. Is there any adjustment on these or should the one that's below empty be replaced? If so anyone know where to get a replacement. Thanks

  8. I just got an E-mail back from Randy Moore saying he could and would build a gear that would use bungee's instead of springs if its what the customer would prefer. Of course you would be responsible for the bungees and wrapping them. But for us with the original gear, that's not a big issue. Probably more than me that have been slapped with a loose end of a bungee cord at one time or the other. Talk about a hillbilly hill whipping, ouch!  Another option for gear changers. I think his gear runs around $1200 which is cheaper than some I've seen.

Sounds good Allen, . After the gear I would have to change the wheels , tires, and brakes wouldn't I. I think I have 3/4 axles. Ball park figure of the cost. Future project maybe,

  9. The cabane (hatz) gear that has been posted here in the past has flaws in the design that could or will lead to bent tubes in the fuse.  I have a new set up modeled that should take care of all the issues we have seen to date but until I beat the crap out of them on my own plane I wont be listing them as an item for sale.

    :BC:

How did tha hatz gear work out for you

  10. Have fun with it and post some pictures.

Thanks , asking Allen and wanted your opinion as well.

By the way,  should I start a post on my project, and add photos and ask questions or do individual posts for each problem, or jump in on others posts that are covering the issue.

  11. I believe you do!  Good luck with it.

Thanks , I'm going to take you up on your offer to help. By the way,  should I start a post on my project, and add photos and ask questions or do individual posts for each problem, or jump in on others posts that are covering the issue.

  12. Those look like the wheels for the Kitfox and I believe they are, but the builder added three more holes to fit the 6 holes in the Kitfox hub.  Also, Kitfox welded on three pieces of aluminum to the back of the wheel, machined it, drilled and tapped it to bolt the brake rotor on to those three lugs.  JImChuk

Has anyone welded or know of anybody that can weld the three pieces of aluminum , machined and tapped them for the brake rotors. Not sure what the original brakes were but I believe I have matco's. Thanks

  13.  They were used with the old Engenics brake system.

Allen, are you saying that your wheels don't have the lugs welded on for the rotors to  bolt to?   On the Kitfox 1s, they used Airheart brakes, and the rotor bolted to the hub with 6 or 8 Allen head screws.  I've got a set of those wheels and hubs as well, maybe I'll part with them someday.  Probably not real soon though.  If one ran with smaller tires, I don't think those Airheart brakes were that bad.  JImChuk

I have a set of original Kitfox rims that I took off my Fox when I changed to Black Max brakes. 8" rim by 6" wide I think. With the 3 hole spacing. I have no use for them since the conversion. The new wheels are a lot lighter than the originals. They were used with the old Engenics brake system.

I purchased these because of the talk of them being scarce. I wanted to have a spare set to install asphalt friendly tires. What needs to be done for them to accept a rotor. I thank I have matco brakes. Allen did you have the other 3 holes drilled? Are you going to sell them. Just Plane Mike

  14. I measured mine a while ago and they are 8" diameter, 6" wide rims with 3+3 offset.  Douglas makes several that meet this spec, but the kitfox wheels are a 6 bolt wheel that started as a 3 bolt wheel where the builder added 3 of the holes.  The wheels I see available currently are all 4 bolt wheels which I think is just  fine, but then you would need a new hub.

I had toyed with the idea of making a new set including hubs since the wheels on one of my foxes are pretty well scratched up from someone putting the tires on. They hold air hough and it is just cosmetic.

As for changing the tires, I have had a Harbor Freight Mini tire changer and it works well for changing the tires on lawn mowers, ATV/s, Golf carts, and Kitfoxes.

Here is a link to a 8x6 DWT rim, but note as I said these are 4 bolt and not a direct replacement for the original Kitfox wheels. You could maybe shift the bolt pattern and drill 6 more holes to get them to work but I haven't explored this.  http://www.rectires.com/douglas-atv-wheel-8x6-3b-3n-4-110-125/

Here is a link to the tire changer I have. I just clamp the bottom part in my bench vise. https://www.harborfreight.com/mini-tire-changer-61179.html

Just a thought, Has anybody change the tire ( removing the tire from the wheel) and restalling it, while still on the plane?

  15. Greetings , after reading all the responses in this post I did a diligent search and I believe I've located the wheels mentioned as being the original type / size of wheel. These are the 3 hole ones mentioned.

I found them on eBay. I bought 2 of the single ones listed. It stated that was all he had. I went back to his listings and I found the following.

One is a listing of 3 of the wheels. It looks like he has several sets of these. If you contact him maybe he might separate.

The other listing is for the wheel in a black finish.
