So how does one come to get one of those CPS catalogs that had all the great info in them?? Really would like to get hold of one.

One gallon did my plane, but I went pretty light on the brush. Remember, its a fabric covered plane, the weave should show when you are done with the top coat. If you put on enough chemicals to fill the entire weave and give you an ultra smooth finish, you just added alot of weight, and set you self up for some serious ring worms in the future.

NONE! IMO, the Stewart water-based poly system is a whole lot safer to use. Just finished a J3 refabrick and the paint looks great! If you have concerns about spraying Stewart over your brushed, then call Stewart and talk to them. I was told it was OK, although we used the complete S-system.

Well the fabric is complete on my MK IV and I am about ready to do the spray coats of Poly Brush (brush coats complete) and I am wonder about how much to order.

The product you are looking for is Hysol 9460. It will take about a 2 qt kit , one qt of A and one qt of B. I bought mine from Kitfox because I was buying other covering material from them.

OK, I am getting ready to cover my rudder for the third time and I am looking for suggestions. The problem I am having is that the leading edge is distorting when I shrink the fabric, pulling the center hindge point to the rear. I do the shrinking with the rudder pinned to the VS but no joy. I have put a pre-bend in the rudder to counteract this for my next go at this but... I am using medium weight fabric and starting to think that maybe I should try some light weight instead.

Stitch! The extra time will save you later on especially if you have an uncambered wing. The piece of mind is worth it too IMO. As Leni alluded to the original Avid/Kitfox had a VNE of like 90mph. Guys are now cruising them at 100+ mph. They are going much faster now with more engine choices than they early days. Once you get the pattern set and the knot down stitching is actually kinda fun. We spent around 8 hours on each wing..basically one full work day on each wing. Did it in a weekend. The more you do the faster it goes.
Thanks, I will stitch. It would be a drag to put all the work into covering and have it let go for a few hours of extra work. Nice to know that you stitched the front part of the lower ribs Leni, I was not sure about that part.

I am getting ready to cover my wings on my Mk IV HH with the Polyfiber process and have a few questions for those with experience.
I read in the manual that rib stitching is not necessary but the Polyfiber manual states that rib stitching is a must. I have seen some pictures of the fabric pulling away from the lower surface of the wing. If you had it to do over would you stitch or not stitch?
I have installed the aluminum leading edge as per plans so if anyone is has done this and rib stitched did you stitch around the bottom rib caps on the front 1/3 of the wing under the aluminum LE?
I bought the fabric kit from Kitfox and they supplied materials for rib stitching so I assume that they recommend it for their airplanes.

I have a Jabiru 3300 in the Q-2. It cruises at 175 mph on 5.5 gph and is a blast to fly.

The book in Section V chapter 2 says .060 Lexan. I'm building a MkIV also with a 912. Just finished glueing up the ribs on both wings today.

This is a kit with little done to it. There has been nothing done on the wings which is a good thing. The owner has passed. I will plan on posting some photos as I go. I am flying a Q-2 with a Jabiru 3300 that I completed back in 97. This is going to be my fishing airplane with Idaho in mind. I flew the company demo plane back in the mid 90's a Caldwell and just about ordered a kit at that time but opted for the Q-2. Guess I never quite got the Avid out of my system. Thanks for posting the manual, it allow me to read thru it so I am better prepared.
Leaving at 5:00 am tomorrow to go pick it up. I am hoping to make it to a fly-in to look at some Avid's and KF this summer. Anyone know of any fly-ins here in the west this summer?

If you scroll to the bottom of part 2 you will find the 2A pages. I think these are the missing pages and it is just the way that the manual I got was laid out. They show the alternate construction methods or steps for speed wings versus HH or STOL and he was trying to keep from confusing himself by putting those pages at the end instead on in the middle of the steps he was trying to accomplish.
Got it, thanks a lot. I purchased a Mark IV kit with a 912 that I will be picking up this weekend so I am previewing the plans now before I get the plans with the kit.

Broken Flaperon pivot point

I am in the building process so the method that I am describing is not proven but what I am doing. I bent some aluminum channels 8" long, cut them to fit the rib tails that the flaperons attach to, with Hysol glued them on and then installed one hard rivet through them. I am attaching some photos that may make this clearer. In your case, glue the broken tail on with some epoxy first and then clad the tip as described.
