Thanks, I programmed it when I was swapping engines in my Q2 and have used it on several other airplanes for other people since.

Here is a C/g spreadsheet that allows you to make trial moves of something like the engine or battery etc

Hey Allen I have an Excel spreadsheet I designed for W/B which is setup for moving items around specifically engine changes but it works for batteries or anything for that matter.  You do need Excel on your computer or it might work with some of the Excel knock-offs.  If you are interested I can post it in the files section.  I wrote the program when changing engines in my Q2.

  5. wypaul added a post in a topic fuel tank sealing - sloshing

The KF that I referred to had 13 gallon tank which have several baffles.  The key is to raise and lower the ends of the wing alternately while rotating the wings and using the excess amount of the Caswell Epoxy. The excess is then poured from the tank. If you would like to talk to the fellow that did it in his KF message me, I believe he would be open to talking with you on the phone.
As far as the acetone goes use your own judgement.  The screws I used but my tanks were not installed yet.  I would probably opt not to use them in an installed wing for fear of not getting them all out.

For polyester I would wax the cowl with Johnson's paste floor wax three coats dried and buffed between coats and then 3 coats of PVA.  Good luck with your project.

What resin are you planning to use Jim?  That will dictate which mold release you will need to use but with the proper mold release you will not have sticking problems  use 3 or more coats of release for best results has been my experience.

Here is a picture of the gear leg when I built the plane and it looks the same today.  The axle is installed also.

Richard, I do have a starboard gear for an Avid MK IV. LOCATED here in the USA, but it seems to me you could have someone build it for you there in England.  Message me and we can discuss it if you are interested.

I suggest you check with your local extension agency.  They will be able to give you good guidance into what will be the best for you area.  You will want a mix of sod forming grasses that will grow without additional water. Mowing is another consideration. Another good resource will be existing sod runway owner/operators in your state. Contact info is on Foreflight and other places.

Looking good, that Silver 92 is a better engine the 12V71, they were good at burning fuel and big and heavy.

Five or so years ago I posted a picture with dimensions in the files and forms section when I was building and selling them.  Not interested in building them again but they are easy enough to make.

If the bushing #15 is worn out you can have a lot of play.  The shoulder if worn will allow the arm to move up and down and if the bore is worn side to side movement. A common issue with the Maule tailwheel.

you might try Rans, the rubbers for the Coyotes with 912 are the same, that is what I used last time I changed mine out.

I built one of these LRI and flew with it a while but found that it just wasn't for me.  Found that it was better to listen/feel the airplane and respond without distracting me from the job at hand. I still have it around somewhere and the patched hole in the panel to remind me Your mileage my very.

Even with the Zipper Kit and others there have been failures with the older engines.  Hal of Zipper fame will not buy the older UL engines for up grade pre 2006 if I recall.  I would give Ronnie Smith at Mississippi Light Aircraft a call they also sell a low compression upgrade kit he or his son will give you the actual serial number cutoff for the older engines.  Maybe if you go the route that flywise suggests above it would be okay but why not pickup a good used ULS and go fly.  All that said I do have my used Zipper kit that I will sell that I had on my early 90's UL for $2500 USD. It has about 200 hrs on it but I would have to look back at the logs for the actual number of hrs if anyone is interested. I lost confidence in the upgrade after a friends engine failed within fifty hour of installation ( Larry's old plane and engine that we upgraded after my friend bought it)
There is my nickel worth.  I  bought a new ULS after I lost confidence in the upgrading the old engines.  If I had a later model UL I would still be flying the Zipper.

The yoke "H" needs to be loose enough to move freely so that it acts as a universal joint in addition to Leni's comment. I'm fine with the friction flap handle when properly adjusted holds great and allows precise adjustment albeit somewhat rather stiff.
