This is not unusual I think, mine has a rough patch around the same area but it is easy to use slightly more or less throttle on the approach where I run into it.  One thing you can try is doing the pneumatic syncing at that RPM and see if that helps if you really feel like you need it to run at that RPM.  The bigger crossover tube sounds interesting, thanks for the link Jim.  I didn't know that Hal was marketing that mod.  The 912's intake manifold leaves a lot to be desired (at least the older ones) at low speeds the front cylinders run richer than the rear ones and I suspect that this may be true across the range of operation.

    Fuel line float balls
Who was it that sells the little float balls for the fuel line sight gauge?

I did not have issues installing the tire on the wheel with the tube deflated but the bolts were a little struggle getting them aligned but the length was ok.  Not to sure I would want to try bolting with the tube inflated but my tire slipped right on to the rim. Mine are the straight tread style not the smooth tire.  Is that what you have?

I am running them with the tube with no issues. Just had one apart the other day.  What issues are you having Brice?

I have the 2.25 version and would recommend the larger one as well,  the small one is very hard to read the oil pressure due to the display setup.

    new TALL gear
    http://www.matcomfg.com/AXLEASSEMBLYA7-idv-2670-1.html
I have posted a couple of pictures of my new taller gear in the photos section and have been flying with the new gear for a couple of months now and will discuss the good and the bad.

If you will note in the pictures I have made the gear legs twice as wide at the top using the front mount and the rear most (tri-gear) mount.  This was done so that the attachment point is in a much stronger part of the airframe and it also make the gear leg itself stronger.

The strut is the Robert’s Rage Gear which a friend had for sale for a good price.

Another change that I made is a bolt on axle from Matco. Click on Matco link at the top  This allows me to adjust the camber and caster with only the standard aircraft shim setup.  The shims are available from Matco also.  No more

Now for the places where I got it wrong with this gear.  First the gear legs are at about 60 degrees and they need to be at 45 so the the stress of landing is not transferred as much to the fuselage.  Also the angle between the gear leg and the Rage strut should be about 28 degrees which at the present is not bad but will need to be addressed when the angle of the gear leg is corrected.  This will require a new cabane and the lengthening of the Rage strut.  This strut was made for a S-7 which is a much narrower fuselage.

One other change that I made is to remove the sweep forward in the gear legs which also helped get the aircraft into a better landing attitude in the three point mode although I most often wheel land my plane.  This also makes the tail slightly easier to lift by hand when moving the plane around.

I plan on making changes to correct these defaults this winter but over all this has proven to be a much tougher gear. Due to the added drag I lost 10 mph from 110 to 100 for cruise. I will fair the legs and get some of that back after the corrections are made.

I am open to comments and suggestion so what say you?

Man I guess so, he did get a crane to pick him up and lowered the wheels.  It was only his second landing after buying the plane.

Speaking of amphibians was number two today behind a 182 on amphibs.  You can really make short landing with those if you forget to lower the rubber before touching down on the tarmac.  Called the tower saying he had a flat but he must have been sick when he realized what had happened.  Pricey landing I would guess.  I can fell for him.

I like using only Tefzel wire in my planes because if you have an electrical fire it does not produce toxic smoke and it resists abrasion. It does cost three times as much and is much harder to strip.  ACS has three wire shielded Tefzel wire for $1.17 per foot.

Looks like the best part for her was the headset, that was the big deal with my grandchildren.  It has s great t get the children in the air.
I ran into a young man the other day in Douglas that I gave his first flightf in my Q2 over fifteen years ago.  He is now working at Backcountry Super Cubs and is hoping to get started on his pilots license. Said he was addicted from that first flight when he was 8 yrs.  Made my day for sure. It was a Young Eagles event.

24 Awg will be good for 2 amps but I don't know if it will work as well as shielded wire.

I have them on my Q2 and they work just fine.  Last I knew parts were available from several sources but I ordered them direct from Airheart.

I do most of my landing as wheel landings living in Wyoming with lots of gusty wind it just works better.  If you need to do a dead stick landing add 10 miles per hour so that you have plenty of speed and energy to do the flair and plant it on the ground.  So there you have it, 3 different thoughts.  My suggestion is land it the way you are most comfortable with and then expand the envelope in all the modes.  As mentioned they bleed off in a hurry so add some extra speed at the beginning.  Just my thoughts your mileage my very.

Man I hope that works out, $11400 for a 100 hp engine would be nice even with the high fuel burn.  Turbine Cubs of Wyoming tried the concept and gave up on the idea. Turbines really don't come into their own until you get them above 20,000 ft so we will see if this comes to pass
The prince of Saudia Arabia is having a couple of Backcountry Cubs built here in Casper that iare using a Diesel engine that will be capable of up to 350 HP.  They are suppose to be ready by this August.  My guess is that they will be late.  Anyway they will be set up to ship in containers so they can be shipped to where ever he wants to play.

    Elevator trim tab safety
Returned from the Idaho Backcountry last Saturday interesting trip to say the least.  On the way into JC, about 5 miles from Indian Creek my Avid cut loose with an extreme case of elevator flutter.  That got my attention right away.  My buddy confirmed that the elevator trim tab was the culprit. Jim I think that you mentioned that you had this happen one time.
Looking back in my manual I found a couple of pages labeled "Trim Tab Safety".  I did not find any of the parts to build the safety and thought that it applied only to the Bowden cable setup.  So my question is did anyone receive these parts with their MK IV kit and if so I would like a picture of the parts as installed or not install and what are the materaials used to build HT-10 and HT-11.
I have not seen a service bulletin referring to this Safety but suggest anyone flying a MK IV or an Avid upgraded with the trim system, electric or mechanical look into installing the Safety on their plane.  I do have the drawings, parts list and instructions if anyone needs them.
So the failure occurred by way of the rivets failing that were holding the trim horn to the trim tab.  When I covered the tab I covered the rivets with the fabric flap so that they were not visible. A better practice would have been to install the horn after covering and painting was complete or not allowing the flap of fabric to cover the horn.  I have built a new horn and installed it with three SS Rivets and in addition used epoxy between the horn and the F-89 that it attaches to.  The horn is not easy to look at while doing the preflight but having lived thru my wake up call rest assured that is going to be a big priority in the future.
all in all the trip was way to exciting, my flying buddy had his engine lockup just after we came out of the Backcountry and by a stroke of luck and great skill was able to glide to a grass strip and a safe landing.  So we left our gear with his plane and returned home in my Avid.  Now we have a 1600 mile road trip in a couple of days to retrieve his plane.
Some of you will know where the attach photo was taken.

Like Chopndrag I have the little filters in my two carb lines (sinistered bronze) but my main filter in both of my planes are the pleated paper.  I've heard the arguments against them but I have over two million miles behind paper filters that have worked without problems.  The key is to just change them at each oil change.  I would be interested in seeing some data that might make me question my experience although.

I have two objections to those filters (1) very small filter area and (2) if plugged with fiberglass or nearly so you can't see it, ask me how I found out that with my Q2 many years ago.
