The use of micro balloons in Epoxy was for filling/fairing the spar,. Sorry I was not clear in my post.  For the stars in the tank my suggestion was to sand the star and the tank wrap would have been enough to take care of them.  That as also not very clear.  Any body filler product doesn't create a goood structural repair.  Once you sanded the star  using woven cloth cut to the size of a 50 cent piece, wetted with resin then a dollar sized piece wetted with resin and so on until the entire area was filled back to the thickness of the tank.  You can find many good articles on the net about repairing composite structures.
maybe the product that you used will have good adhesion and enough fiberglass in it to be a good enough repair but I would not be comfortable with it.  I would suggest sanding down the body filler to say half of its depth and then using the structural repair method above.  The tanks are made with polyester resin and at this point you will be using the same to wrap the tank so use that to carry out the repairs.  As far as fuel proof resin, no reason to worry about because the tanks are polyester resin and will not stand up to alcohol.  Also be aware there are a couple of types of polyester resin available, waxed /finishing resin and regular laminating resin. Use The laminating resin.
once again sorry my ordinal post was less than clear.  I would find someone in your area that is very familiar with composite manufacturering repair and get some help.

Wyatt I think that I would not gouge out the glass, but sand with 100grit and then apply the wrap if that covers it.  Also for filling/fairing my choice would be Epoxy resin with micro balloons or second choice bondo. Remember the tank has mold release on it so a good sanding is necessary for proper bonding.

also the F-37A's end up short (flap pushrods).  We ran into this issue with a KF2 that a fellow purchased here.  The solution we used was to reposition the horn on the end of the flaperon.  The horns are built and installed differently on the KF but it would work the same way.  The other possible solution is to build longer blocks F-2 U-joint and then put a bump on the turtle deck.

I also use 1/4 plywood that is used for underlayer when putting down a new floor,  it is 5 ply and available for free as scrap from flooring contractors.  I had the scraps on hand from my kitchen remodel.

Looking closer I do see the springs, still very different from what they were marketing under Highwing LLC.

Interesting to note that he is not using their Hatz style bush gear but running shocks.  I went to the Roberts Rage gear struts which uses a combination of shocks,  bungees and gear legs of my own design and have been very pleased.  No more bent up fuselage.

For me there are only two choices for fuselage,  Epoxy or powder coating.  Either way it maybe something to farm out.  Some of the prices for powder coating that folks have been getting would be hard to beat.  The downside to pc is that it is hard to get it off if you need to do repairs and rust can grow out of sight under the coat.  Painting there is a lot of waste, time consuming and a fair amount of specialized equipment to do a good job safely. Think outside air source for breathing.
Sandblasting takes a lot of air so the bigger the betters far as compressors go.  I've used some of the small pot blasters and was less than impressed, ok for small projects only.
So all that said I would probably tackle the job myself using Epoxy but I do own all of the painting equipment.  Sandblasting I would farm out because it is a nasty job requiring big compressor, a big sand pot and lots of heavy media.
The above is just my thought and worth about what you paid for it.

The MK IV build manual is available for download on this site.  I fly a MK IV with a 912ULS and as you stated the performance is great.  I built a SS exhaust for my plane using bends but I used the original muffler.  The back two cylinder pipe are very tight and I would wait until you have the engine mounted to see what you need. I looked at an exhaust for KF four but was not able to verify that it would fit and the folks at KF were interested in giving me measurements to see if it was possible.  I now have a friend with a KF and could check it out to see if it would work.  There are a few places around that can build you an exhaust but you have to do all of the figuring so you might as well just do the fitting and get someone who tig welds SS to put it together for you. attached is a picture of the old pipes.

Hey Allen, it appears your 2 has an additional piece of metal (black) above the spring.  Is that something that you added or did someone else add that.  That appears to be a good viable solution to the weak point without the need for welding.  It gives added reinforcement to the tabs and also helps hold the spring in alignment with the downward facing ears.  Thanks for posting the picture.  I believe I will make a part like that for my friends plane and see how it works out.
You seem to be missing the spacers to the bottom plate the allows proper tightening without bending the bottom plate. You ca see them in Jim's picture above and on the KF site under manual, landing gear.

Weak point in the Kitfox tailwheel spring attachment design
i have seen several failures of the tabs that hold the tail spring in alignment at the vertical fin post when stressed.  The Avid MK IV DESIGN is much more robust and I suggest that if your fuselage is not covered that you consider making that modification and for that matter even if it is covered.  They never seem to fail at a convenient time.  If anyone is interested I can provide pictures of the Avid and also how we modified Larry's old plane (Old Yellow) after the tab failed at Johnson Creek last year.  If you land perfectly every time then maybe you don't need to think about this little upgrade.  This happened again today to another KF at a flyin that I attended.  I wonder if KF has made improvements in their later models, 5 and beyond?
i just looked at a drawing on the Kitfox site and they are still using the same design on the S7, to bad.

  17. wypaul added a post in a topic nose wheel fork

Like most kits, no technical drawings were released for the Avid.  The fork was built at the factory and supplied with the kit.  As far as rigging goes that was supplied with the build manual but there are drawing showing a better modified rigging for th nose wheel steering that should be available on this site. It is possible that someone here will be able to provide the dimensions from their fork so that you could build one if that is your intent.  They do come up for sale here occasionally so ask if that is what you want.

Looks like I will be going to Oshkosh arriving Monday but don't know if I will be flying the Avid or riding in my friend's Kitfox. Sounds like the weather is going to cooperate to make it very pleasant.
Sounds like I will have a couple more Back Country Super Cubs to test fly when I get back.  That is always interesting but as I have mentioned before I really like flying the Avid more.
PS THIS ONE IS FOR Sale

Hey Jim I would suggest you order the service manual for whatever AC machine the cylinder is from.  I have a 40 year old Case backhoe and without the manuals I would not be able to maintain it.  The manuals are available for just about any machine as I am sure you are aware for just a few bucks.

Yes that was taken at Johnson Creek.  We just stayed there over night this trip but usually make time to hike up to the hot tub as an afternoon activity.  We ride the bikes into Yellow Pine for a burger and a round of golf in the park.
looking at those drainages from the air I can see why it is such a popular place for white water activities.
We had planned to camp at Smiley Creek on the first night but due to winds that could not pick a direction we ended up going into JC at 5:00Pm, that was western to say the least.  There is a reason that our flying is usually completed by early afternoon.
The other pictures are all in Montana in the Kalispell area.  Our trip was center around making it to a RAF fly-in at Ryan Airfield just outside of Glacier NP.

    ID MT WY TRIP
Just returned from a trip to the back country.  Flew over two National Parks, six or more Wilderness Areas and an endless supply of Mountians. We went for breakfast at the RAF's fly-in at Ryan airstrip just out side of Glacier National Park on Saturday before flying into some of the BC airstrips.
Larry we ran into the fellow with the blue Carbon Cub from Santa Cruz, that you guys met at Dixie Town, at Ryan and also saw him !(Barry) at Meadow Creek a few hours later.
Great trip all in all, no breakdowns or incidents.

Turbo it is not customary for ground to hand you off to the tower on departure, simply switch to the tower freq and tell them where you are and you are ready for departure.  Otherwise they do not know you are ready.  One other thing, I generally switch to tower when I get to the run up area if it is not to far from the runway.  Those folks up there make mistakes like the rest of us.  Pulling onto the runway with a landing airliner on short, short final is way to exciting for everyone.  I still look both ways before entering the runway after being cleared for take off and if your have switched to tower while running up you will hear both sides of the conversation. My home field is class D and the tower is considered a training tower so there are a few more mistakes than normal.  One more good thing to remember is to request a different runway other than the assigned runway if the assigned run does not suit you.  The active runway may have a tailwind for example.  Also if you have a good reason request to land on the ramp or taxiway.  If all else fails declare the emergency and fill out the paper work.  I like flying into controlled airports because there are extra eyes to keep pilots safe but it's like stepping into the ring, protect yourself at all times.
