    Got'er flyin'!
Finally got the Kitfox Model IV where everything's working and is capable of flight!  Took it out for a 1.5 hour test flight and it flew fine.  Gonna take it to the avionics shop Monday to have the transponder/static system checked.  That has never been done since the aircraft was built in 2003.

    The Church Gossip
Martha, a unmarried lady of 50-ish just can't resist poking her nose in other folks business.

She saw Ted's old pickup parked in front of the liquor store on Friday night, and just couldn't wait to confront him at the Baptist church on Sunday they both attended.

Sunday, after the morning services, Martha was just about the first person out the door and stood next to the Pastor as he shook hands and spoke with folks as they exited.

As Ted shook hands with the Pastor, Martha said in a loud voice, "Ted, I saw your pickup parked in front of the liquor store on Friday night!  Your pickup parked there is truly an indication that you were buying liquor.  Don't you know that partaking of alcohol is sinful?", so that all within ear shot could hear.

Ted, looked Martha right in the eye, said absolutely nothing, and walked to his pick up and went home.

The next Saturday night, Ted drove his pickup over to Martha's house, walked home, and left it parked there all night long.

    Cowboy's New Watch
Montana cowboy walks into a bar and takes a seat next to a very attractive woman.

He gives her a quick glance then causally looks at his watch for a moment.

The woman notices this and asks, "Is your date running late?" "No", he replies, "I just got this state-of the-art watch, and I was just
    testing it."

The intrigued woman says, "a state-of-the-art watch?" "What's so  special about it?"

The cowboy explains, "It uses alpha waves to talk to me telepathically."

The lady says, "What's it telling you now?"

"Well, it says you're not wearing any panties."

"The woman giggles and replies "Well it must be broken because I am wearing panties!"

The cowboy smiles, taps his watch and says, "Damn thing's an hour fast".

    True Lent
Each Friday night after work, Boudreaux would fire uphis outdoor grill and cook a venison steak.

But, all of Boudreaux's neighbors were Catholic...and since  it was Lent, they were forbidden from eating meat on Friday.

The delicious aroma from the grilled venison steaks was causing such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to their priest.

The Priest came to visit Boudreaux, and suggested that he become a Catholic.

After several classes and much study, Boudreaux attended Mass...and as the priest sprinkled holy water over him, he said, "You were born a Baptist, and

raised a Baptist, but now you are a Catholic."

Boudreaux's  neighbors were greatly relieved, until Friday night arrived, and the wonderful aroma of grilled venison filled the neighborhood.  The Priest

was called immediately by the neighbors, and, as he rushed into Boudreaux's yard, clutching a rosary and prepared to scold him, he stopped and watched

    in amazement.

There stood Boudreaux, clutching a small bottle of holy water which he carefully sprinkled over the grilling meat and chanted: "You wuz born a

deer, you wuz raised a deer, but now you is a catfish."

    Shamus O'Malley's death
Brenda O'Malley is home making dinner, as usual, when Tim Finnegan arrives at her door.

"Brenda, may I come in?" he asks. "I've somethin' to tell ya".

"Of course you can come in, you're always welcome, Tim. But where's my husband?"

"That's what I'm here to be telling ya, Brenda. There was an accident down at the Guinness brewery..."

"Oh, God no!" cries Brenda.  "Please don't tell me."

" I must, Brenda. Your husband Shamus is dead and gone. I'm sorry."

Finally, she looked up at Tim. "How did it happen, Tim?"

"It was terrible, Brenda he fell ito a vat of Guinness Stout and drowned."

"Oh my dear Jesus! But you must tell me truth, Tim.  Did he at least go quickly?"

"Well, Brenda... no. In fact, he got out three times to pee!"

    Paddy Murphy
Into a Belfast pub comes Paddy Murphy, looking like he'd just been run over by a train. His arm is in a sling, his nose is broken, his face is cut and bruised
and he's walking with a limp.

"What happened to you?" asks Sean, the bartender.

"Jamie O'Conner and me had a fight," says Paddy.

"That little rat, O'Conner," says Sean, "He couldn't do that to you, he must have had something in his hand."

"That he did," says Paddy, "a shovel is what he had, and a terrible lickin' he gave me with it."

"Well," says Sean, "you should have defended yourself. "Didn't you have something in your hand?"

"That I did," said Paddy. "Mrs. O'Conner's breast, and a thing of beauty it was, but useless in a fight!!!"

    Redneck Fisherman
A redneck was stopped by a game warden in Central Texas recently with two ice chests full of fish.
He was leavin' a cove well known for its fishing.

The game warden asked the man, 'Do you have a license to catch those fish?'
'Naw, sir', replied the redneck. 'I ain't got none of them there licenses. You must understand, these here are my pet fish.'

    'Pet fish?'

'Yeah. Every night, I take these here fish down to the lake and let 'em swim 'round for awhile. The n, when I whistle, they jump right back into these here ice chests and I take 'em home.'

'That's a bunch of hooey! Fish can't do that.'

The redneck looked at the warden for a moment and then said, 'It's the truth Mr. Government Man. I'll show ya. It really works.'

'OK', said the warden. 'I've got to see this!'

The redneck poured the fish into the lake and stood and waited.

After several minutes, the warden says, 'Well?'

    'Well, what?', says the redneck.

The warden says, 'When are you going to call them back?'

    'Call who back?'

    'The FISH', replied the warden!

    'What fish?', replied the redneck.
    ...

Moral of the story: We may not be as smart as some city slickers, but we ain't as dumb as some government employees.

You can say what you want about the South, but you never hear of anyone retiring and moving north.

I do not enjoy that kind of weather.  Hard to anticipate where ice may or may not be on the road.  Saw a lot of ditch divers along that 4 lane stretch between Anchorage and Wasilla the 8 winters I drove to Anchorage and back from Willow almost every day.  I never had any problems out on that road except one time.  That was when I made a bad decision to pass a guy that was driving real slow on the 2 lane stretch between Willow and Houston.  I swapped ends and hit a snowbank, but was able to drive right back on the road and go on.

Seems like the mountains get a few every year when the ice and snow softens up.  You'd think that folks would learn after a while, but they don't seem to pay any attention to history and go hang it out regardless of the conditions.

No flying so far for the last 4 months.  I'm in the middle of rebuilding an old motor home, and the Kitfox needs some minor stuff done - replace Lexan on left door, redo the door latches on both doors, and some minor electrical changes in the cockpit.

I agree with Leonard.  Spray on foam insulation is the best way to do it.  It don't have to be thick, just an inch or so.  I've never seen a metal building with that stuff on the inside sweat.

Good luck on that R/C helicopter!  I got in the neighborhood of 6000 hours in helicopters that I can sit in, but I can't handle one of them damn models.  The control inputs just plain don't react like the real McCoy.

That email server is the only way I mess with that group.  I thought at first it might be a pretty good source of info for Kitfox stuff, but it now appears like if you aren't a newby at flying, you get ignored.  That's OK with me.  I got more help on this board than anywhere.

I thought the whole damn thing was funny!  Some of those fine folks don't even know the AIM exists as far as I can tell.  It appears that they do something, then flip their wig when somebody calls them on it.  Also, 'pears to me that some of 'em got a burr under the saddle blanket, too!

LF/MF trailing Antenna (Old Maritime Antenna used in AK in the 50' &60's)
I'm looking for one of the old Maritime antennas that we used in AK in floatplanes during the 50's and 60's.  I'd like to get a complete one to install in my Kitfox for use on the Amateur bands.  They were usually made of Bakelite, black in color, had a plate that mounted to the airframe and a reel on the plate with a friction knob about 6" in diameter isolated from the airframe, a ceramic tube to feed the trailing wire out of the cockpit thru the skin.  There was also a ceramic insulator (tubular) that mounted to the top of the vertical stabilizer to keep the wire clear of the fuselage while in flight.  The wire that was used is not a requirement because I can get that locally.  If any of you AK guys know of one, let me know about it.

    Thanks,

I sure did call them, thanks to you for the info.  They had no paperwork other than what I have already, but the guy there used to work for NSI, I think, said he could walk me thru it on the phone, so I did it.  Turns its a pretty simple thing to do, just unsure of whats in there unil I get it open.

Tore down the prop on my Kitfox to check out the grease seeping out around the parting surfaces of the the hub, cleaned, inspected, and lubed it and almost got the @#$%&*(*) thing back together.  The back half of the hub don't want to go on the way the book says, so I just quit for today.  Maybe better luck with it after a good night's sleep.

A boat up there on the saltwater would be nice.  I've thought about it, but I know that there's no way I can work one commercially and come out ahead financially.  What with the permits (or lack of them), licensing, cost of fuel, and limited seasons, a guy just starting out don't have a chance.  I've also considered a 35 to 45 foot sailboat (with an engine on board too) as a summer home in southeast AK, or Prince William Sound, but then I get to thinking about the cost of maintaining one and quickly lose that ambition.  Guess I'd better stay with a little airplane and be happy!  ;D

Wx sounds about right in AK for a halibut fishing trip out of Homer!  Last time we went out, there was about 10 people on board and all but 3 of us was feeding the fish, none of them had a line in the water.  The winds were about 20-25 kts. out of the west, but the charter boat guy said he wasn't worried.  Turned out that he was right.  It was a bit rough at times.  I think we were out there in November if I remember correctly.  It wasn't near as bad as a deer hunting trip we went on out of Valdez.  In January, we were aboard a 42' boat.  There were six guys and the boat captain.  we did real well with the weather up until the boat captain decided to go home about 2 weeks into the trip.  That flower of his family decided to make a run for Valdez from Hinchinbrook Island with 40 knot winds.  We made it back in but it was not a boat ride that I ever want to do again.

Good luck on the duck hunt!  I sure enjoyed that down around the headwaters of the Susitna while I was in AK.  I used to go with the guy I worked part-time for.  He had a duck camp out there complete with floating cabin and propane heat.  We used to fly in to it with a C-185 on amphibs, and spend a week or so.  We would also fly over to another small lake and hunt from a blind.  Lot's of fun, and too much beer!

How's the weather up in Soldotna, AK today?  I talked to Eddie Trimmer up at Willow, AK last night.  He said they have no snow on the ground and that the temperature was at +40 degrees.  Kind of strange for this time of the year.  He said it had snowed earlier, but had all melted.
