  1. I'll go back to the shop in a little while and see if I am an idiot.

  2. You got me puzzled now, Jim!  Maybe I am thinking backwards as comparing them to two stroke carbs. Maybe another look is required. Never dealt with a 912 type carb before. Thanks for the heads up!  If you are correct, and I have no doubt you are, I'll feel like an idiot. Pa always said "no sense in being stupid, if you can't prove it now and then".

  3. A friend just got his new $1300 powerfin prop for his Kolb. 6 weeks lead time to get it. During FAA inspection we found a soft spot in one of the blades. Most likely an air bubble was in the layup and escaped leaving a soft spot under the finish. Probably only one out of a thousand that escaped quality control. May or may not be an issue but a no go for the inspection.

  4. The way the carbs are positioned it requires a reversing bellcrank. Same as a 582 setup. I'll still have one lever except it will be a 'T' type throttle. It will still be shoved forward to add throttle as normal. I think, if I remember correctly, Fred Stork has something similar mounted on the left side on his Avid.

  5. Finally got the throttles and choke cables installed. Had to make new choke cables to fit but they seem to work. Going to have to use a 'T' shaped throttle handle to avoid building a reversing quadrant. Similar to a twin engine setup and the temp mockup seems like its going to work. The 'T' handle fits my style better than the standard push/pull setup.

  6. I've pretty much got the same carbs on the HKS. Trying to work with Mikuni to switch to their carbs. I know Bing's are simple or at least the 54's are, but I am not fond of the 64 carbs. I used a Mikuni 42SLR on my custom Subaru on the model 4 and it had a mixture control among other neat little features. In the process of researching different carbs now.

  7. I removed it from barnstormers due to all the tire kickers calling. In 2 minutes you could tell they were not very serious at all. I thought 13K for a new Fox with everything new, completed, minus engine, with custom trailer was a good deal. But I guess I was mistaken, again. The HKS install is not a easy thing to do but I hope its worth it in the end.

  8. Well since I wasn't able to sell it, time to start doing things. Room under the cowl is filling up quick.

  9. Had my fox on barnstormers for my usual 1 week listing and had only 3 or 4 e-mails concerning it. I thought a decent price for a new Fox but guess I was wrong. So it will stay in the barn and I'll work on the engine installation when time permits. Suppose the Kitfox craze has run its course for now. Reason for the one week listing is after 7-10 days lurkers seem to think you are getting desperate and start making lowball offers. Guess what!!!

  10. Someone here will have an answer to about any question you have. Probably more than one answer, but several different ways to jerk the hide off a opossum, and all usually work.

  11. Colored duct tape cut in 1 1/2" circles.  Use pinking shears to cut the circles. An off field airplane isn't worth a darn unless it has duct tape on it! Also makes a temporary repair till time to fix it. If one would make test panels when they do a covering job, one for each color, then one would have spare fabric patches ready to glue over a tear or ding. And about any good glue will work.

  12. I have a habit of overbuilding things. This is not a good thing when you build airplanes.

  13. Finally got time to have new oil hoses made and get installed. Maybe a little overkill on the hoses since they are high pressure hyd hoses. But they did fit.

  14. I am not a pro welder by any means but I.ve never had to grind down my welds. A couple of the welds look like they don.t have proper penetration. I would have doubts that this was made by Avid.  The quality just doesn't look like it came from Avid. As far as strength goes, that's a guess at best. I, myself, would redo it. After I was sure it fit the engine and firewall.

  15. You guys must be psycho, opps I mean psychic, since I was considering putting mine up for sale. But I guess I'll reconsider that option for awhile. Maybe things will settle down in a couple months and I can get back to it.  Old grandpa once told me, "when you don't know what to do, don't do anything."
