Holy buckets! I am really glad to read this and know you’re ok!
I would ask the forums help in understanding the reinforcement issue. I’ve checked and it would appear that my rib tips (AVID MKIV HH) are not reinforced but are simply the extension of the rib as originally designed. They are painted so I will be scrapping some paint, GENTLY, on my next trip outntonthe field. If I pm reading the SB correctly, that would look like the aluminum pieces are riveted to the top and bottom of then rib face...that about right? Could one just laminate some aluminum to the rib tip itself? Say JB WELD on a well prepped surface and the cross rivet it at odd intervals?

  2. Columbus added a post in a topic GLUING RIBS

I just saw this...let me give it a whirl based on my limited knowledge....Yes. I write that with the thought that if done correctly it should be all those things. As a former machinist and somebody who makes a living in the medical industry, good work is rarely not all if done correctly.
Let’s take the application of glues/epoxies/adhesives. Even application will yield the best adhesion and cleanest “look” as well. Excess glue globs are never a good idea. And can apply strain to an underlying or adjoining piece where it might not be stressed for and cause that piece to break.
    How’d I do?
TIA for ALL I’ve learned so far and so much to go

THanks for the above info- may have some more please? LOL
Im just starting to fly the HH I bought and was rather surprised at its stall speed. I always thought Avid/KF would be lower. While it’s is pretty much right where the plans say it should be I would like better handling at the lower speeds. It is the HH wing with the flat HS and rudder. Would I gain that much by installing both wing and tail?
    appreciate the information amd help

I always love it when a company promotes their vehicle is “emissions free” because its electric. Unless you entire power grid is Solar/Wind.....yeah, you’ve got some emissions to factor in there....
Years ago I pulled up to a stop in my old CJ7; this guy in a Prius started giving me grief about “machismo”, my need to compensate etc etc blah, blah, blah.... I asked how he liked his coal powered Prius? He immediately went off that it was ELECTRIC and not “Coal powered”...When I informed him that in Okcty all our power was from coal fired plants.....he turned about several pale as I’ve seen a person who did not pass out.

Have you measured the old pieces? And have you measured the ID of the receiving part as well?

NEWB alert! Huge grain of salt needs to be applied here...
In racing (not that I ever did such a thing) the fastest of us worked the problem tires first. By that I mean we figured the mission from the tires forward. What length of track, what tire diameter needed for that length of track, what ring amd pinion to spend the tires that distance, what tranny to spin the ring and pinion to move the tires...you get the point.
Would not the same philosophy apply here? What’s the plane’s mission? What prop needed for that mission, what gear box to spin the prop, what engine to spend the gear box to spin the prop, what carb set up to run the engine to spin the gear box to spin the prop.....etc
So p, I am still so new as to be funny- yet it would seem to follow? Did the EGT run hot for the P.O.? If no, then what changed? Does my question make sense?

    Newb alert-
But if you go with the Grove gear (and I presume we’re all talking the one piece bent aluminum) don’t you lose all the compression component there by making it less rough terrain useable?

I use a clear “pencil pocket”- I think .50¢ at Dollar General. Added benefit is the grommets used to snap it into a 3 ring binder make dandy places to run some zip-strips!

My CFI DRILLED these things into my head. I’ve only got about 50hrs on the log so I’m still WAY green. I actually put together a trng flight plan when I go up. So I hit, slow flight, stalls (still freak me out a hair), turns around a point and split S (all the ground reference stuff)

How does one ad a foot note to the profile? I’ve tinkered around for an hour and just can’t seem to figure it out.

Well...funny thing about this ship....it’s mine now! Sorry Chris.....ok, not really!  I would have been leery too with that sorta distance. For me it was a 4° road trip one way and well worth it. I will not disclose what I paid for it ...it was considerably less than asking.
For the most part- she’s a solid little plane that seems to handle exceedingly well (I am brand damn new so talent that with a HUGE grain of salt). The coolant was GREEN....yeah, swapped that out. A great friend and mentor is building a heater for me. It had the FW manifold for the one off the starboard radiator however, there was no ducting for the radiator or air tube...cold ride to say the least for my pilot friend.
I plan to sort out the little issues over the winter and my CFI for SP is also a CFI for TW. I’m looking forward to many years in her

When I started this mission a few months ago, the man most instrumental in getting me going (Micheal Robbins) said, “you need to define your mission and then decide on a ship from there.”
Well- at the time the mission was to get into the air. That has morphed a little. I started and, continue to fly Challengers (CHII specifically) and while I can land mine in a couple of hounded feet and take off in less...they’re not really meant to do that in scrub or river bank. Hence- the recently acquired Avid HH. I’ve had a few TD lessons (one from my CFI and a couple from friends in TC and a PA11....Fun!) yet, I am REALLY looking forward to this AVID.

ha- I think it was Lincoln who wrote “don’t beleive everything you read on the internet! Pocahontas- love it !!! LOL
So far, I’ve spent quite a bit of time just reading the posts. Really like the forum. I have been utterly amazed at the open welcomeness (is that a real word?) in the flying community. Yes, I’ve gotten some good natured ribbing here and there yet, for the most part it’s been truly great!
Well- other than some of my GA friends asking when I’ll get a “real” plane...hell, why would I do that when I can have two “toy” planes!

As luck would have it- there is a distinct possibility that I’ll be in the area. My Mother and Sisters in laws live there and I am pretty sure we’re suppose to be there for somebody’s birthday. Would love to listen to the lies!
