True about some balking at the certifying that no issues could ever cause an incident, I wouldn't sign it. But my GP didn't have a problem with it. I brought in the tentative version before it became law for his review. The next year I scheduled an eye exam two weeks before my physical, brought the FAA paperwork for the eye doc so he could specifically address the FAA points of concern. He documented same so their was no issue for the GP that is not prepared for eye exams. GP was glad. You do the online course after the physical.

Maybe... it depends on how it is wired. Most cars for instance, will only tell you the amount of current going into or from the battery. The devices that are running will not register. I've seen airplanes with the ampere gauges wired like flywise says and I've seen them like most cars have. As Chris  stated, one really needs to have a schematic to know what it should be reading. But it definitely should be reading. :-)

Just wondering, is there an established track record of using the kitchen sink sprayer hose in this application? Just wondering about compatibility issues, wouldn't want to see it break down, get hard, crack... Seems like it would be a good solution if compatible.

Pretty  sure when I talked to them a few years ago that their pricing, measuring was called out as square, not running, yard. Best check for sure.

A wonderful time. To avoid confusion (from Oratex website):
    How wide is the fabric?
Oratex comes in two widths: 90 centimeter and 180 centimeter (35.43 and 70.87 inches, respectively).

  6. marcusofcotton added a post in a topic Who’s experimented with spinners?

Craig Catto was giving a presentation at Oshkosh focusing on analytical details/results on the subtleties of propeller design. I asked the question about spinner vs no spinner vs skull cap for my Bearhawk (designed for slow end of spectrum with 0-320). He said there would be absolutely no measurable difference whatsoever between the options.

That was my first thought as well, but thinking about it (considering how it is designed and how I use mine) the rear point does make more sense.

Just checked the Avid manual W&B chapter, 57" to rear of baggage compartment.

Which nose gear? Free castering rv6a style has nut with Belleville washers. Supposed to tighten it to require 20 lb of pressure to swivel wheel.

  10. marcusofcotton added a post in a topic ANR Hedset - is it worth it?

My story and results are very similar to PitFox, except Jabiru and hearing was very difficult and painful, even with earplugs underneath. Compared Bose and Zulu 3, no regrets in getting a pair of Zulu 3s. Cheaper than hearing aids and way more joy, less pain.

Get in touch with Bob Barrows, for around $35 he'll send you an updated copy of the plans, many changes since #457. I'm on a very slow build plan for mine.

The 582 in my trike gets the Amsoil interceptor for the oil injection, Amsoil Saber 100:1 for the rotary shaft. Couldn't be happier with the results.

Thanks for the invite. I've been in the area a few times but it will probably be a while before I'm back in the neighborhood.

Has anyone tried rewinding one? By LEAFs comment, it sounds like they suffer insulation breakdown.

Looks like Avid must have recognized the weak spot, note the gussets on my Mark 4.

    Solo bungee wrapping
My bungees have been on the loose side and today I went from seven wraps to eight wraps. Was able to do it by myself with the help of clamps.

  20. marcusofcotton added a post in a topic Happy Thanksgiving

I am thankful for finding this site and all the wonderful folks here. Today I went to a couple of 2800 foot grass strips about 60 miles west of here. Played at the windshear level a little on the way there ( much more comfortable in the Avid than the trike!). Practiced a bunch there including 25 landings, and enjoyed a good tailwind on the way home. 2.7 hours.

I've always used the friction lock style throttle instead of the Vernier. Happy with it and wouldn't want to change.

Joey, congrats on the 19 yr mark, it's a great feeling to have that bit of freedom in choices.

Thank you, yes I have 1000' with 1% pitch, tall trees and powerline on lower end. My 60x34 Catto was marginal for getting out but my 62x32 Prince is doing the job well on the Jabiru. Vgs have made a big difference on getting in. More practice needed but we're getting to know one another.

The main skis for my trike would likely work fine on the Avid but I'm not confident I can make the geometry work out safely on the RV6A nose gear. I'll likely run the tricycle gear next year yet, perhaps install the Grove taildragger gear next year. Jim, I think you probably have more snow than us yet but skis would be better. I'm waiting to put the trike skis on 'til the deer shack (travel trailer) gets put away. Got the deer but too sick to process efficiently right now. I do look forward to having a cockpit and some cabin heat for winter ops.
Joey, thanks for the help on posting pics, perhaps I should figure out how to resize smaller so I don't cause slow connection issues for folks. Empty wieght on paper is 611# but I think that's about 30# shy. Was worse but I just saved 10# going to an Odyssey PC680.

Just wanted to get a picture up. Haven't been up with it since the runway's been covered with snow, hope to make it up again yet this winter.
