Fortunately, it happened before I left for the Idaho backcountry in late June. That would have been a bummer hauling it all the way back to SoCal.
By the way, some of the stuff you have in the MK4 baggage compartment will come up front to meet you in the cockpit. Thankfully nothing heavy, like a hammer, was in there.
Make sure that stuff is secure.
Also, if you flip upside down make sure you have something soft to drop on when you release your belt and drop on your head.

I did not see a noticeable speed drop with the VG's my MK IV cruises at 110-115 mph @ 5500 rpm with the STOL wing. Not to sure where you get the idea that the wing is hard to wash with them on, using a soft 3" bristle brush just simply brush front to rear right over them and presto, nice and easy. I have VG'S on both of my planes. This is of course just my experience so take it for what it is, one data point, might not suit you as well.
I do have the KF plastic leading edge on my wing and I think you are right about the leading edge of the standard wing.
Hello Paul;
110-115mph on your avid, I guess your supercharger 140hp engine doesn´t care about under camber and plow right through the DAM drag :-) I always thought that buying such expensive engine it´s not the solution because 80 or 90hp still won´t give you more than 75kt on cruise.-

guys;
I have a very short airstrip, so short you can´t call it airstrip, just a patch of grass, my take off technic works pretty fine, standing still, WOT, no flaps, start ground roll until I reach 35Kt full flaps and it will jump in the air shorter than starting the ground roll with flaps; conversely when I coming in for landing as slow as I can full flaps; touch down at 37kt (I´m heavy @$$pilot) kill the flaps and it will stay on the ground; if I leave the flaps on, I will be hoping along until I run out of space.-
Playing with the flaps does have a good effect on short take off and landings.-
Though I would love to try the suggested modifications of Riblett on the undercamber to improve cruise speed without sacrificing the take off roll.-

Hello Turbo;
Some time ago there was a discussion about a better airfoil and the usage of the VG on the bottom of the wing, one member tried it without luck, however there is a letter from Riblett saying that Avid airfoil will not sacrifice STOL performance taking the bottom section of Riblett GA35-614; where the top of the wing remain untouched (Avid original airfoil) and the bottom will have same as GA35-614.
I have not heard anyone that has applied this modification to the bottom of the wing, but as it looks like will give the best out of the 2 worlds with little modification to the wings.-

p.s. here is the link to the discussion including the letters (pictures) in question.-

I have a model B, and all what I can say is that Avid is a pretty little airplane, only complain I will make is that leg room is a problem, I`m 180cm tall and have problems with the pedals and placing my feet correctly, one time I did a ground loop without impacting anything simply because while applying brakes on a my short strip the tip of my right toe(shoe) got caught in the framework and I though I was braking but I wasn´t so I did a left hand ground loop.-
I´m hesitant to go for the bush gear because it´s taller and I recon it will take less to bend the legs;
are you going to install all the mods you had in the B model? such wingtip vortex, etc, etc, etc??

regardless of where the air comes from, if you have a hose bent up and down again, it will develop air, wonder if the complete water line keeps strait all along and the higher point is the bottle?

cruise at 150 to 200 knots and stall at 35 knots? sounds almost to good to be true.
Dynaero MCR airplane is performing near the same, nothing new, there are other examples, blackwing is not pioneer in this technology, it´s just another all carbon composite down to the control stick and it came out lighter than anticipated.
I also want to mention that the only one who I ever heard had any type of effect by modifying the wing tip is John Miller placing Vortex generator there; he has a full report over the other side of the river (the dark side) I believe Randy also installed VG on the wing tips...
for those curious about 150hp Rotax; there is a Norwegian company who thought, regular 80hp rotax was over complicated and overkill NICE little ENGINE, so they began removing useless systems and parts to make it nicer and cleaner they came up with a pretty nice upgrade to that engine.

I have some friends here in Sweden that are building a new aircraft and as far as I heard; wing tips are only a tangible advantage; when you are flying more than 200kt or 10000ft and above; somewhere there can´t recall the exact numbers, basically top end airplanes and airliners are really making use of these advantage. Rest is just cosmetic.
Their original design didn´t have wing tips because it wasn´t necessary, but they got hold of a Rotax turbo engine 150Hp and the airplane performs just within that range, now the plane is suited with wing tips.

well; that´s the simplest trim I ever seen; I will install one in mine, I´m not a good fan of trim systems, because the complicated installation.

AC.43.13 blah blah blah, manual, the one founded on the FAA website for accepted methods repairs; has some pretty good suggestions as to how to repair this. it Shouldn´t be a problem, just like T-jay´s pictures here.

Hello Guys;
Stupid question from my side, I`ve the drum/wire original brake system on mine, and I´m quite happy for it so far, I step as HARD as I can on those and the wheels never block regardless, but what it really means is that the wheels are not having complete power to stop the plane, I know one of the most experienced pilot here crashed his plane because it block and nose over the plane.
What is your feedback about hydraulic brakes??? for those who had it for long!
