Bungee cord 3 wraps bottom and two on top
I was just looking at the bungee cords on my newly acquired Avid Flyer (Model A/B/C little bit from each).  Everything that I have read says that you should use 3/8 bungee with 7 wraps on the bottom and 6 on the top.  The current bungees on the plane look to be at least 1/2" cord with three wraps on the bottom and two on the top.  Anyone have any idea of why this would have been set up this way?

I am still a little wary about jumping from a 5" to an 8" tailwheel, but I sent the guy an offer....I guess we will if I am going to have issues with it.

I got it removed today.  Pictures below.  Does anyone know what kind of motor this unit uses?  It is an AeroSafe 900.

Kind of what I thought, that I should be good to get it out of the plane, as long as I keep the safety on.

Thanks, thought maybe if you were close, I might have other options.  Have you noticed any significant differences between the one you have the one posted on this site?

Ok, so looking at the Matco 6" pneumatic tailwheel assembly: http://www.matcomfg.com/TAILWHEEL6PNEUMATIC-idv-3373-69.html
Which is $210, which I presume includes the wheel (I hope).  This is a single fork and my current one is a dual fork.  I am relatively new to the tailwheel world, so do I care that it is a single fork.  Will the single fork make any difference in my application?
As for the wide gear, I understand the need, but each implementation seems to add stresses in other places that you have to try and fix, or minimize the effects or the company no longer exists or no longer manufacturers them.  In short, I have been unable to identify the most appropriate solution.
So, to wider gear, I ask which one and why?

Second Chantz BRS Removal (For sale if you want it)
My newly acquired aircraft has a Second Chantz BRS installed that is rated for 900lbs; I could not find a date on the device, but I would presume that it would need a new rocket motor and re-pack.
Since this device obviously has some pretty nasty pyro in it, I just thought I would ask if anyone has any experience removing them.  I believe that as long as I watch out for the safety, it should be fairly straight forward and all connections are internal.
I DON'T want an early Fourth of July.
I will try and contact the company, but their web site appears to be all jacked up, so they may, or may not still be in business.
I will wait for a little while to see if anyone wants it and can pick it up, otherwise, I will need to figure out how to remove the rocket motor and dispose of it appropriately.
Did I mention that they installed the BRS right next to the auxiliary fuel tank right behind the passenger seat?
Seems like a Darwinian moment waiting to happen to me!!!!

I appreciate the thought, but it is a bit far to go for a refresher.  Maybe a vacation idea at some point.

Is it different from the one uploaded to the site that was published in 1988?  If so, is it for sale, or can we copy it or something?

This plane is probably still at least 6-8 weeks from flying.  I just got it with no logs, so doing an engine and prop replacement.  Engine replacement because I need to and prop replacement more because I want to.  I am still trying to figure out what kind of weight I have to work with.  When you say wider gear, I presume that you are referring to something like the tundra gear, which I have considered, but have to see where I am on weight first.  What gear would you suggest?
Right now it has the wheelbarrow gear on it...and I have some aluminum wheels with hydraulic brakes that I can install that should fit on the current gear.

    Instructors in Texas
Anyone know, or are, good instructors in Texas, prefer central, but am flexible.  I have my endorsement (only 10 hours), but no time in Avid or Kitfox.  It has been a few years since I flew a tailwheel, but my time was in a Citabria and RV6 when I was doing aerobatic training.  I would obviously prefer one with Avid / Kitfox experience...potentially in my plane, if reasonable close.
    TIA

Wheelbarrow mains are also early on the chopping block.

I definitely like the idea of an 8" tailwheel, was just concerned about raising the tail that much.  New to Avid and have no idea about what I can get away with yet.  I would like to get it flying and then start nudging it.

Know any source for the 5" tailwheel?  I would like to get everything flying right before I start changing things.

This, I can completely believe.  This is part of the reason why I am having difficulty trying to determine what limitations / specifications to use with this aircraft with lost log books.
So far, I am thinking a 911 gross, unless the plane comes in REALLY light and a VNE of 120.  I would LOVE a useful load of at least 470.
    Any thoughts?

    Tailwheel replacement (5 inch)
I am looking for a replacement tailwheel for the one in the picture and potentially a new tailwheel assembly.  I just got this plane and when I got it home I noticed that the tailwheel assembly was not sitting straight, but leaning to one side.  I am guess that someone previously strapped this to the trailer pulled to one side.  Additionally there are some chunks of rubber missing from the wheel itself.  I have read that the Maule tailwheel is either 6 or 6.5 inches, but this one is 5 inches.  I have read about others replacing their tailwheel with a Matco 8" with positive results, but going from 5" to 8" seems like would be asking to land tail first.
I welcome everyone's ideas and suggestions.

I don't know if this picture helps or not, but it definitely isn't flat across the bottom,

Here is a picture that I took when I initially went to look at it.  These wings look undercambered to me, please correct me if I am wrong.  Where I started off with the aerobat wing was here: http://avidflyer.wikia.com/wiki/Models
    Which indicates, under Model C:
"The Heavy Hauler wing rib spacing was changed to 12 inches. The Aerobat wing had the same features as the Heavy Hauler but was 6 feet shorter (24 feet vs 30 ft). The Commuter wing was a short STOL wing."
Maybe I just have a Frankenstein wing where the builder thought what happens if I do this?

What model were the speed and aerobat wing introduced
Anyone what model the speedwing and aerobat wing were introduced.  The history that I found here doesn't mention them until model C.  I have a possible B model that appears to have an aerobat wing, it is 23'8" long and undercambered, but it has 18" ribs on it.
    TIA
