  1. THE MACHINIST added a post in a topic Airspeed drastic change with decreased AOA

On my first crow hop the airspeed was inoperative so I took the hose off and blew it out from the inside out. (With gauge disconnected) didn't see anything bad come out but couldn't blow through it before with my mouth after using compressor on it then I could
I didn't see a small hole in the second tube but I may have missed it.  I only see one line running from the wing into fuselage so it may be just for strength.   I posted a picture of the dash so you guys could see if you're running the same airspeed gauge.  I only saw one tube going into that as well so maybe the static port is just a hole in the back of the gauge.   I didn't think about it being too far rearward. That seems plausible as well.

Thanks again for for all your thoughts

Airspeed drastic change with decreased AOA
second flight of my c model last night trying to figure out why my airspeed is within 10% during climb out at 30 degree angle or more (verified on gps by flying a box). As soon as I lower the nose it is off 20-30%.   Not sure if a static port is plugged or....................?
joey said he only has a pitot tube on his wing not a second tube which I am assuming is static  and his is very accurate

    thanks for any input

C model back in the air!
Got my tw endorsement and flapperon repaired so finally time to test her out. Instructor crow hopped her a couple times then we both did   Blowing 20 gusting 30 saw some nice ground speed at least in one direction   Thankfully mostly in line with runway.  After that we stayed close over a large box field near the pattern for an hour or so To check things out  overall very happy!  Just have some air in the right brake line I need to get rid of  then more testing and transition training.   The GoPro is My sons It is pretty amazing if you're smart enough to work it. I meant to shoot video but only got a couple still frames   So will try to get that figured out next flight.  Thanks again to Jim and Joey for hooking me up.  Jamie

  11. THE MACHINIST added a post in a topic Broken Flaperon mount?

Thanks someone sent me a link to that.  I elected to use slightly wider plywood and double it
Today I fit a new wider rib cap to give more area to re-glue my fabric

  12. THE MACHINIST added a post in a topic Broken Flaperon mount?

Today I  used MEK and peeled back the tape then slit the fabric along the rib cap.
i decided I couldn't to a good enough job with the wing on the plane so off it came.
I had to cut the lower rib cap so I will put a wider one in to replace it so I have more area to tie the fabric back into
in order to keep the tension on the trailing edge cable I needed to be able to run from the spar to the cable so I used one piece of plywood on the right side of the rib.  In order to replace the rib I had to slit it to the point of the cable then I put a short section on the left to tie in my splice.  I used scotch weld 2216 to bond it all together.
    Should be stronger than before

thanks again Jim Chuk for the plywood

When one looks up piss poor in the dictionary a picture of this repair would be its definition.
Whatever glue was used never even made it to the tip their were no fasteners of any kind used and it was only a couple inches long.  I'm sure it was just a bandaid to sell it.   Grrrrrrrrrr.

The up side is there was no rot and structurally all looks well aside from this isolated damage.
Does anyone have any info on how the repair is made in England using the aluminum sandwich.

I guess I will order the hysol what size do you think I need to repair both sides with the counter balance (one on each wing) by sandwiching aluminum on both sides?

    thanks

I called you back but it rang and rang
is there any substitute for hysol 9460 that I could buy at Home Depot or Lowes?   I can't find hysol locally and was hoping to do the repair this weekend.

    Thanks

My plan is to cut out the damaged wood and put in new wood and sandwich that with aluminum

Does anyone have a STOL wing open they could take measurements of the triangle to the tail of the flapperon so I can cut some aluminum to fit in and sand which my splice.  My plane is an hour away and was hoping to get the aluminum cut before I get there.    I think I will reinforce both sides where the counter balance is.

    Thanks

    Edmo
think I will try to sandwich it as well.  How long ago did you do your repair and any issues since?  If I use a poly system solvent to peel back the tape can it cause any damage if it isn't a poly system product?

jack.  It moves smoothly throughout its range of travel.  All I can figure was hangar damage. Repaired poorly and maybe stressed by trailering.

I hope it doesn't break again   One with rot caused a crash in the Midwest.  I think the guy ended up in a river I think
    Thanks guys

    Broken Flaperon mount?
Sadly on my first pre-flight I found a broken flapperon mounting point above the anti flutter counter balance.  It looks to have been repaired before.  I have read of several ways to repair it my question is what fabric system system was being used or recommended by avid in 1990.  That is what the aircraft logbooks say they used what the factory manual recommended.

    Thanks in advance

Do any of them at least have a double o ring or room to machine a groove for a second one to be added?
