This Rans 7 has the wing tanks Mark referred too. Looks like a reasonable (although pricey) solution for those times when you need extended range.

A good bit of what makes your Mark IV what it is can be found here http://www.avidfoxflyers.com/index.php?/topic/540-how-to-tell-if-its-a-mkiv/?hl=%2Bbaggage+%2Blocker#entry3003

    This doesn't say anything about an Avid B . . . . .

So the 39" dimension is the distance between the tips of the longest arms - correct?

    Doug,
No problem and no rush as I'm a long way from needing to know. I was thinking this might be a good choice and your performance comments convinced me, but your final comment on its rather large size made me wonder where it could fit. The baggage locker could make it difficult . . .

I may be off-base here, but when I look at the picture of the F7/F7A comparison in this post . . .

. . .  it almost looks like you could notch the underside of the original assembly, bend it to the proper angle and then reweld it and add a gusset to provide extra strength. The picture may not be a good reference, but it sure looks like it just might work. Any thoughts on this idea?

I was one of those guys asking Paul about these. If anyone has a spare set sitting around they'd be willing to sell I'd be interested in buying them.

Thanks for the tip. Jim sent me the drawings, so I'll definitely check out the EAA video.

Dang Jim - that's a good looking plane! Pictures like that can really help motivate you. Was that your Mk IV with the Jab in it?

Thanks Jim. I hope I don't have to go that route as I don't think I have the skills. Fortunately, I do have a friend who could do the work with a good set of drawings.

    Jab 2200 Motor Mount
Any ideas on where I can find a Jab motor mount for my Mk IV? I emailed Airdale about a week ago, but no reply. I assume the best way to get an answer is to call Brett?

Thanks for the warm welcome! I would imagine cowl design and proper placement of the fiberglass plenum ducts that came with the engine will be critical. And based on my reading here it sounds like Ron Smith from All Pro Composites could be helpful in making a cowl that matches up with the plenums. I had thought about a Grand Rapids or MGL engine monitor - sounds like that may be more critical for this engine.

The Jab is a very early model and I doubt (but don't know for sure) that any of the upgrades you've mentioned have been done.

New Avid MK IV in ME
    Hello to all.

I just purchased an unfinished Mk IV with HH wings and a Jabiru 2200. I've had my PPL since 1983 and most recently was flying/owning (with one partner) a 1959 C172. Sold it almost two years ago with the intent of buying a Kitfox/Rans/Avid to be able to work on it myself - and to stay LSA as I'm getting to the point where passing a 3rd Class medical may be more difficult.

Always thought I'd buy a completed kit, but when this one hit Barnstormers (in VT, close to home) I couldn't pass it up! So my son-in-law and I will be working to complete this. Probably won't do much with this till the fall (other than sit in it and make plane noises) as my summer is already pretty busy.

I've been a member of the TeamKitfox forum since 2009 and have been trying to soak up as much information as possible. Being new to building, I know I'll ask some dumb questions and need your help - thanks in advance. Speaking of questions, I recently emailed Brett at Airdale with some general questions about my specific kit and am wondering how quickly he usually responds. I've posted a few pictures here to let you see what I have. I look forward to sharing progress and participating in this forum.
