  1. horsepower added a post in a topic The best prop option is ?

I would think that you would want the largest diameter prop you could put on it and still have your ground clearance. With the C box you can run a heavier prop, check out Powerfin,Warp Drive, Ivo. I think they have a suggested prop chart for the combo you have.I would have a ground adjustable vs a fixed prop but thats just a preference. There are some nice wood prop builders out there for Rotax, I believe GSC Props still build wood.Randy

Dont feel bad Russ, Ive been going through the same thing with my Skyraider.I had to tighten my tail wheel chains up one link and that helped alot on both takeoff and landing. On my landings I started watching the end of the runway instead of what is right in front of me and that also helped.I doubt if any of our forum buddies mastered it right off the bat and if they did more power to them.Remember keep the stick planted in your navel when you land, that was the hardest thing for me. Skyraider Flight
Took the Skyraider up out of the pattern Sunday for the first time.I had to keep a little left rudder in it the whole time,a buddy is going to help me with the strut rod end and try it again. It got really windy so could only go up for one flight.I flew for 45 minutes and the temp stay at 155 to 160. EGT at 5500 RPM was 1080 on one and around 1070 on two.The door flew open twice and the wind came up higher than expected, the landing was a little hairy but made it home.Ive decided not to fly in the wind until I get a little more time on it.All in al I think it will be a fun little machine. Nice pics Joey,Its a good thing Im not flying that RC Helicopter or it would end up as fish food. Is that lookout Horseshoe Lake Lookout and that small town in the background is that Pierce?Havent been back in that country for years. My Uncle used to work at the Potlatch JP mill when it was still there.Sorry you had to visit under the circumstances but its always nice to go home. Skyraider Lifts Off
I did about six takeoff and landings today on the Skyraider.Just did some crow hops got it out of ground effect and flew it down the runway.Next weekend I'll take it up into the pattern and get some good numbers on it.Wanted to do it today but the wind came up in a big way, could barely taxi the thing toward the end.Never dreamed a 582 would have this much power, after flyng the old Vagabond this thing feels like a little hotrod. The controls were a little more snappy than I thought they would be but I'll get used to itAbout half of my landings were ok but there was a couple that I dropped in pretty good, the bungee gear evidently works. Will send more pics when our crappy internet works right. Static RPM
I have a 3 blade 68 inch Powerfin prop on my Skyraider, havent flown it yet but have done lots of taxiing and did a runup with it tied to my truck. At full throttle it read 6340 on my digital tach, its a 582 with a C box. Powerfin says it should be around 6000.What are you guys running yours at?Thanks Randy

The back seat person cant be too tall, not much leg room. The way I figure it you would be out of balance before you could get to gross weight unless it was about a 350 pound pilot.200 pound in front and 200 pound in back, full fuel with 20lbs in storage sack behind rear seat and you just come in under most aft w&b.Unless you just like tandems like myself then you could probably haul more payload with a Avid or Kitfox, the side by side keeps the CG closer.

The lightest one that I have seen was around 480,most people that I have talked to said they were over 500 with Jabirus in them.Mine came in at 507 with a 582,was hoping for a lighter number but I added a couple extra stringers and panel has built in radio, etc. Its real easy to add stuff but the weight adds up in a hurry. The 430 number seems awfully low but it may be do able.I have talked to guys with Kitfox 2,s and 3,s and they to were over 500.Not sure what weight the Avids come in at but they all have pretty much the same wing. Will be able to give a flight report in two weeks from today.Randy

    DAR Inspection
I got my DAR inspection today so now theres no excuses.Im taking it up to a friends house,he has a 3000 ft grass runway and he also has a Skyraider so he can help a bunch.Didnt think I would ever get done but now hopefully I can enjoy it.Also I got to meet Burt Rutan the other day at our flyin.Pretty cool to have Dean Wilson and Burt Rutan both living right by our little airport.Ive never met Dean but maybe someday if Im lucky. Thanks for everybodys help on this forum.I,ll keep you posted on first flight.Randy

Great stuff Joey,Sounds like it was a great time.A bunch of my buddies that usually do the Super Cub deal didnt go this year because the weather has been so crappy, glad it worked out for you.I get my plane inspected on July 9th so after my 40 is flown off I may be able to make next years.I will probably go in a couple times with a friend in his Super Cub before I attempt it but it will happen. How did you do on fuel burn and is your 582 still purring?Randy

Hey Joey, Im getting ready for my DAR inspection and marking the fuel level is one of my last things on my list,do you have to mark both flying attitude and on the ground attitude?Do you mark it in gallons or fuel level such as 1/4, 1/2 etc. Thanks Randy

Hey whatever works go for it,I was at Ace Hardware the other day and I was actually looking at the big selection of tires and wheels.I may just buy one to throw in the plane when Im going somwhere very far.Right now I just have the solid Matco wheel but would like to upgrade later.Mainly I just want to get flying for now,Im going on a weeks vacation to see my son in Wyoming but when I get back its balls to the walls.Ive already been in contact with my DAR out of Spokane and it looks like the 1st of June.Im going back for a couple refresher courses from the guy that did my tailwheel training and after that theres no excuses.Nice pics you got there Joey,Im looking foward to doing some flying with you.Randy

She might be a keeper if she wants to get back in after a dead stick landing. My wife would probably stay on the ground for awhile and maybe would never get back in.Your gal friend is beautiful and adventurous, those two qualitys usually dont go together.Lucky Dog you.....

Hey Leni should oil pump be replaced at so many hours? My engine has a total of 510 hours but has 120 hours since a Rotax major rebuild.I doubt that the pump was changed.Sometimes I think about running mixed gas but most of the people I talk to says to run the pump. They say they are normally very reliable.Guess we will find out.Randy
