old cowboys...A successful rancher died and left everything to his devoted wife.
She was a very good-looking woman and determined to keep the ranc h, but knew very little about ranching, so she decided to place an ad in the newspaper for a ranch hand.
Two cowboys applied for the job. One was gay and the other a drunk. She thought long and hard about it, and when no one else applied she decided to hire the gay guy, figuring it would be safer to have him around the house than the drunk.
He proved to be a hard worker who put in long hours every day and knew a lot about ranching. For weeks, the two of them worked, and the ranch was doing very well.
Then one day, the rancher's widow said to th e hired hand, 'You have done a really good job, and the ranch looks great You should go into town and kick up your heels.'
The hired hand readily agreed and went into town one Saturday night.
One o'clock came, however, and he didn't return. Two o'clock and no hired hand. Finally he returned around two-thirty, and upon entering the room, he found the rancher's widow sitting by the fireplace with a glass of wine, waiting for him.
She quietly called him over to her.
'Unbutton my blouse and take it off,' she said. Trembling, he did as she directed.
'Now take off my boots.' He did as she asked, ever so slowly.
‘Now take off my socks.' He removed each gently and placed them neatly by her boots.
'Now take off my skirt.' He slowly unbuttoned it, constantly watching her eyes in the fire light.
'Now take off my bra.' Again, with trembling hands, he did as he was told and dropped it to the floor.
Then she looked at him and said, 'If you ever wear my clothes into town again, you're fired.'
I didn't see it coming, either!

damn, looks like things died out in here.. hope it is just that you guys are out flying your planes instead of couped up inside on the key boards. I made arrangements to have a guy cover my wing for me so I can hopefully get it done sometime in August and get to flying my own plane instead of putting a butt load of hours on my brothers

would be nice, but my avid does not have the center console... I pulled the radio, loran, and transponder out of the middle of the panel si I will put it right in the middle, with a slight angle towards me.

Garmin 295... Excellent...... cuz I have one too.
Attached is a picture of where I have the mount. Easy to see and reach. The wires to the right are the power cord and external antenna.
I have the Airgizmo panel mount too but will probably never use it for this plane.

Opps...I just remembered ...I have a 296.... pretty close to the 295. Still... the mounting location is ideal for me.

anything new?Morning asshats <it is not bashing I am one too
Anyone working on anything or doing any flying? I got stuck with daddy duties and took the family camping for 10 days last time home so I did not touch the Avid at all last time home. I made it clear that I had a free apss to spend my entire hitch on the plane this time and no daddy duties and very limited husband duties (as in only when the urge strikes me lol). With a little luck, I canget my head out of my ass long enough to the actually get the plane in the air.
I just picked up a 295 and I ordered the airgizmo in pannel docking mount for it. Anyone ever used one? comments good or bad? Dont want to take the time to install the mount if it has issues such as the plastic breaking and spitting the GPS out in your lap on short final etc.

I'm paying about $4.10 (this week) for good auto gas and figure about 4 - 4.5 gph average, but I don't run it hard. In fact in order to get a bit of better efficiency out of it I just increased the prop pitch a tad and actually got a 15 mph gain in cruise, from 85 to 100 @5100 rpm. It always ran right up to redline before so I knew it was under pitched, but it took until now to do something about it. It's about 400 rpm less at static, but it didn't seem to affect take off much...still plenty of initial zip. So it might take 200 feet instead 0f 150.....bfd.
Don't ask how much I tweaked it or what it is now..... I just eyeballed it and bumped one blade out a bit and used the special protractor to set the other two to match. Just got lucky on the first try.
As far as your air traffic ...we all know you guys use (and fly) airplanes like New York cabs... with just as many I hear.
The economy really sucks here in Michigan and a lot of the guys that used to buzz around for the hell of it are bailing out cuz of uncertain job security, or just don't want to can't afford to fill their tanks and just burn 10 - 20 gph any more. More airspace for frugal (cheap) me .......

shit it costs more than that to fly Johns KF II with the 582. Gas was 4.34 at the pump yesterday and it burns 5.5-6 hr at cruise on floats...that does not include oil at 15.00 a gallon or figure in the real operating costs to include maintenance etc.. It is still the cheapest fun I can have with my clothes on.
I went for a flight Monday to maiden his Fox on the new floats and was supprized at the traffic in the area. I had a stinson playing peekaboo with the trees below me, a couple citabria's playing in the pattern, a 185 back taxiing on the lake, a 206 on a 6 mile final a beaver on a 2 mile final and a renegade in a cub take off a dirt strip that runs into the lake at a 90 degree intersept while I was on short short final... I bout shit. I was 50' of the deck and here comes a cub filling up the passenger door headed right at me from about 300' out. No radio communications or anything. I shoved over and plopped her on the water real damn quick.

Kitfox and high gas prices..... it's a good thing , sort of.Ok, maybe not good, but I do seem to have the airport to myself lately. No 182's and Bonanzas flying 747 patterns or anouncing 5 mi. straight in approaches. No conjestion on the taxiways and ramps. Nothing much on the radio to distract ya.
Right now I figure about $16.00 to $18.00hr to fly 84KF. As auto fuel goes up so will that cost but it's still as cheap as it gets. (remember...my hanger is free!)

No, I haven't been out again since that 4 hour trip for the transponder check. Seems like I'm up to my ears in alligators, and forgot my primary objective is to drain the swamp, and I can't find the plug! Busier than a cat trying to cover up manure on a mrble floor lately. Maybe next week I can go out again. We're trying to get ready for a road trip pulling a 30' gooseneck flatbed loaded with stuff to take out to Oregon for our youngest son. We plan on geing gone for a month to 6 weeks. Got to have a little time to spoil the grandkids rotten while we're there!

Have you checked it out yet by measuring the fuel you put in the tank? It does seem high, but how hard are you cruising it? I have seen posts of 3-6 g/h depending on cruise. You have the CAP prop to if I remember right. Does that seem to help you out? What kind of perfomance numbers are you getting? I am thinking of replacing the 582, but am torn trying to find the highest power lowest weight and trying to balance the fuel burn in there too.

Have you flown with it yet? I am curious as to what deck angle you stall at It would actually be a damn good instrument for testing the VG's. I would like to know how much more deck angle you get with them installed. That would tell you the most about placement I think.

inclineometer gauge installed....The plane sits at a +14 degree attitude (indicated)....., no test flight yet.
I know a piece of tape in the corner of the windshield would show the reference to the horizon just the same...but what the heck. Totally frivolous for sure, but it's probably safe to say no other Kitfox has one installed.

I know that several of the guys have retired and they are hurting bad. One local outfit has been waiting over a year to have a conformity inspection done on a new plane they want to add to the fleet. May be able to work out a part time gig? Yes it is working out of the ANC FSDO from what I have been told. A buddy of mine was a witness in a case against a 135 operator he had worked for in the past and the feds hit him up trying to get him to come to work for them. They cant find anyone with alaska time or knowledge. Atleast that was the story a few months ago.
Spudding one in due to small arms fire is a plausible excuse, I guess we can let that one slide. Thanks for your service! That is what has given us the right to have open formums like this one.

just pull out on the runway. As you accelerate with the truck hold full down and wait for about 50-55 then firewall it and take off... save you from draggin it through the woods. Course we want video of it all to
they are very fun flying planes and are pretty damn close to the kitfox on floats except the KF is alot lighter and more responsive on the controls. Either one they are very relaxing to fly. Nice plane! Most of the J-3's and T-crates around here are on EDO 1320's I could not tell for sure but from the pics I think that is what he has on there also.

A picture for float-boy.....ehhh.. I mean Leni.This is how I spent my Sunday.... Annual time, before it gets dragged 1/2 mile through the woods and across a highway to the lake access
J-3 with a 90hp continental.... don't know specific anything about the floats.... but you float guys will.
I rode in it once a few years back, my only float experience to date.
What I remember most was the first landing in a local lake..... it just seemed totally unnatural to be bobbing around on the water, but sitting in a airplane.
But I could get used to it.... (it WAS fun)

This conformity thing, is that with the Anchorage FSDO? I used help write and dissemenate the Part 135 operating limitations there, as well as helped with the confomity inspections. Been a long tim, but I do have the FAA Academy training on that stuff, but I doubt that they would want an old fart like me up there unless they are hiring summer help these days.
Nope, I wasn't the dumbass that did that! It was another one! ;D The only helicopters I ever broke was due to small arms fire, and I ain't gonna accept being the cause of those incidents. :beerchug:

dont know if you are interested or not, but the FAA is way behind on conformity inspections and I heard that they are looking for someone or several people who have a clue about Alaska flying and bush carriers. If you were interested in coming back up and wanted a little work on the side it may be an option.
now to hack on you.... were you the dumbass that overloaded the heli and turned turttle on takeoff?

Hey, I knew you weren't picking on me, just pointing out the errors, and if that had happened while I was flying in the military, it would have been the same kind of thing. Somebody would have let me know, in no uncertain terms, that I blew it.
Yes, there are different weights specified for different things - maximum gross weight, maximum takeoff weight, maximum landing weight (which can be less than maximum takeoff weight), even maximum G-loading weights limiting some manuevers, and maximum forward, aft, or lateral CG limit weights for some aircraft. Good exmple of the last one comes to mind of lateral loading of a single rotor helicopter with a maximum load on the left side. Lateral control limits can be exceeded while lifting off to a hover in some cases. That can be embarrassing!

nobody was hacking on ya, just trying to acertain the facts. I have looked at several guys paperwork up here and NO ONE has anything in the paperwork about a mystical gross weight. I am sure as a military aviator, you are aware that the MAXIMUM Takeoff Weight and the gross weight of an aircraft are two seperate things.... the same as a maximum landing weight. Why everyone insists on using the term gross weight instead of "takeoff" weight is beyond me.

As a matter of fact, I think it's great when we can discuss opinions and be told when we are wrong and check out things in the references to prove or disprove our opinions. It's a lot like military flight crewmembers on an aircraft working together to get the job done. It's not important who points out a mistake, but it is important to pay attention that the mistake was pointed out, and to accept the responsibility for it, correct it, and move on, not to get in a p***ing contest because you think you are right.
