Or.......would the vg's on the flaperons make things worse?  The reason I'm wondering this is because of the following, and perhaps wrong thoughts.
    1. When the flaperons are deflected too far, have they gone from providing extra lift, to providing mucho drag?
    2. As the stick is pushed, say to the left, the left flaperon raises, and then goes from causing drag to once again causing the left wing to have more lift.  The vg's at this point are providing additional lift, and the left wing, because of this, raises even more.                    3. Meanwhile the right wing's flaperon is deflected even further down.  This causes more drag and would cause the aircraft to yaw to the right.  Reversed control, right?
    4. So, did the reverse control happen because the flaperons were deflected too far down, or because the flaperon on the side in the direction of the desired turn, started providing lift causing the wing to rise, while the other wing had increasing drag which caused yaw in that direction?
I wonder what is the cause for the control reversal, this or some other aerodynamic mystery?
    My head hurts.

Just curious what the 2-stroke guys are running for static RPM and cruize RPM and speed.

    Thanks,

    Lenny,

I'm watching the weather; it should be clear enough but they say 25 to 35 mph winds by afternoon.  I know I'm a wimp but I don't like it at that level.  I may end up in Anchorage airspace or Beluga trying to cross Turnagain Arm.  We'll see if the predictions change by the morning.

    VGs
I put this up over at Rotax, but that site seem pretty dead now...

Has anyone ever put VGs on their flapperons?  This would be in an attempt to minimize the inversion issue when the flap function is extended.

If I understand correctly, the inversion situation happens when the further deflected flapperon stalls, loosing it's lift and allowing the opposite flapperon to roll the aircraft in the "wrong" direction.

Just a thought from the nooby.

I know that alot of guys are burning 100LL in 2 strokes.  Most agree that you should use decalin if you do.  It is a lead scavanger.  If you only run 100ll every once in awhile, I have not seen any issues with it.  If you run it all the time, there have been known issues with lead plating the crank bearings.  I ran 100 LL in my 600 snowmachines for a season without issue.  When I tried it in the 1000 the engine ran like crap and just would not perform.  Go back to normal pump gas and she pulled like a raped ape.

My brother ran 100ll in his 582 for about 150 hrs without using decalin and it never had any issues... seems like some have good luck while others have issues right away.

    Leni,
Most of my flying is done local. I use premium car gas with no boose in it. Can I mix and burn 100LL in my 503 if I need gas at a airport ?

Finally got a text message from the guy. Guess his wife changed his cell plan without telling him and he ran out of minutes. Seems he was busy  the last two weeks as he called today to tell me they were done!!! There's still masking tape on in the pics. He had just pulled the paper off.  Now just have to get something done with the fuse but that's another thread.

If I can make it into town this weekend for the breakfast, I will bring some divers weights out to the airport with me and do a little experimenting and see how it goes.  I ran the numbers and it was about 15# in the tail to get me where I wanted to be.  That would be about equivelent to moving the battery to the tail.  AKFLYERBOB made a real nice mount to move his back there so I will copy it and get mine moved ASAP.  Dang summer time brings on too many projects and not enough time!

I hope to get into town this weekend for the EAA pancake breakfast.  If I do, I am sure we will be doing some"unofficial" measuring if Randy comes down.  Should know later today if I can pull off a jail break on Friday and get down there.

Measured my takeoff distance tonight. With the brakes on and at full power, after rolling about 140' with the tail up I pulled full flaps, broke ground at 160'. Tried it again with no flaps. Broke ground at about 200'.  My prop was set for cruise though. This weekend I will play with the pitch to see if I can improve on this.

hmmm a load of ordinance out the ass end of a C5 on his hangar should get his attention.  If you paid up front for it, I would be getting very pushy right now.  Nothing worse than having someone else hold you back from flying.

I would just show up when you know he is going to be there and pick them up. I understand your frustration but he has shown his interest, or lack of same. If you let him he will have them another 7 months.

    Explosive Rivets......

  21. akflyerbob added a post in a topic M.T.O.W. modifications

On the rivit under the strut bracket... cut a short piece of steel tubing, just long enough to clear the bracket but short enough for the rivit gun to catch the rivit nail.
it is also ok to bend the nail a little. You can also use a 1/4" drive socket for the tubing.
AK.. Don't wory about the rust, I didn't fly for 21 years but a few landings and S turns with Leni and back in the groove. Well, it wasn't fun on the first landing but
    Leni saved it.

    Doug,
There used to be exploding rivets, I wonder if they would work?  I think they were set by placing them in the hole and then heating them with a soldering iron or some other heat source.  I have to laugh thinking about some experimenter making his own.....  Really though, there were some rivets designed this way.  No fooling!

Leni,  Moving very slowly on my Avid+,  throttle arms and paint coming, when the engine hook-ups are completed, focus on surface prep for priming and painting.  Going to have to learn to fly again, been so long rust is very thick.

Hope to have wings set to fuse this weekend, need another set of hands....

Took last weekend off for a little spring splash r&r, but not before I got the fabric plates and lift strut brackets done, designed and cut tubing for the new amphib bull wheel support bracket, lined up an A&P oxy welder to do a bunch of welding, and scrounged materials to make a metal brake so I can start bending up a console. Was going to make this one, then EAA Experimenter online showed up in the email with an article on this one. Decisions, decisions!

One question on the lift strut bracket install... how the h*|| do you seat that one rivet under the tab on the rear brackets?

So I'm about at my wits end with this A&P. I stopped in to check on them two weeks ago and and they were ready for the final coats. He will not return my calls and I have not seen or heard from him. I paid him a lot of money to do a 2 week project that is going on 7 months. I've never had an issue like this before. I'm wondering what my options are. I'm about to go cut the lock off his hangar and go and get them and finish them myself.
