    Doug,
Right, it looks like extending the flaperon shaft or the part of the flaperon control arm that attaches to it(slides over it) will need to be extended about an inch.  I'm not sure which would be the easiest to extend. Could be we could extend the control arm end that slides over the flaperon shaft around an inch and a half, then shorten it a bit at a time 'til it lines up with the flex shaft.

The pleasure was all mine, I'm glad you were able to stop over and take in the airshow. And yes indeed, a fine flight home in the Widgeon. Last leg we were level at 10,000 running along a front line that was producing one heck of a tail wind when I saw 173kts on both the 530 and 496 for a few mins. We were really honking along and spent the last 30mins VFR at 8,000 or so dodging the cumulonimbus clouds with 9,000+ tops. A ride with the angels and fitting end to another great OSH trip...

    Greg-

This mod is applicable to Avid Flyer models only, not your Airdale Flyer Avid+.

    cajun-

Keep in mind, while you may have an Avid Flyer Mk-IV builder manual for reference, you are building an Airdale Flyer Avid+ aircraft. The mixer modification being discussed was for Avid Flyer models, not the Airdale Avid+. Different models, different mixers. Refer to the 'original F7 vs. modified F7a bell crank' pic attached (from the Avid Flyer Yahoo Group photo folder) and compare to our Avid+ mixer bell cranks. You will see ours are already shaped like the modified Avid Flyer bell cranks. You do not need to do anything.

    Jack -

I removed my wings before I left for OSH, but I'll try to take a few measures and see if anything on mime looks too short. If I understand correctly, the full length rod running through the flaperon needs to be ~1" longer in order to extend into the fuselage but the length of the flaperon horn arm that attaches to the flaperon rod itself is ok. Did I get that right?

My airstrip will be open to you (if you can get it into 1000' ) !

I'm about 100 miles W-NW from OSH.  I won't be there from Saturday through Sunday, but the week before or after I will.

    C'mon down.

dang Jack, mine was the exact same thing.. I installed the overhead vent per the book and service bulletin... first time I took it out and flew it, I brought it home and put it in the garage.  It was winter and naturally cold out.  I had closed the shutoff valves from the wing tanks, so as the header tank warmed up, there was nowhere for it to go other than out the vent on my brand new windshield, and side windows.  Kids woke me up about 3:00 in the AM and said... uhhh dad...  Ithink there is a problem with your plane... I got up and was instantly PISSED OFF.  Yanked the vent system out and started drilling out the rivets for the windshield.  Of course, on the 3rd to last rivet, I slipped and put the drill thru my nice new wing.  HOLY CRAP.  people scattered as I unleashed a string of bad words that would have made a sailor run for cover.  Oh, and the A&P was coming over later that day to do my condition inspection... NICE.  I replaced the windshield (thanks Bob for you help on that one) side windows and put a quick patch on the wing (oh yeah, she went thru top to bottom).  At the end of the day, the plane was signed off, had its first hangar rash and first patch so now I dont feel bad about going out and dragging the tail thru the pickers and getting rock dings on it.

This damn work thing got in the way.  I am going to put it on my schedule for next year though.  Hoping me and a couple buddies can make the trip.  Would be nice to fly a couple avids and a couple kitfoxs down there for a couple weeks!

Just a quick shout out to dholley & Bandit

    dholly,

Thank you for your hospitality on Saturday afternoon down by the Widgen.  We had a very nice time meeting people whose names I have already forgotten and watching the airshow.

I hope your trip home was uneventful and your first Monday back to work is nowhere near as hectic as mine.

    Bandit,

It was nice to meet you too.  I was sorry I couldn't get back over there by you folks again to shoot the some more.  I guess we'll just have to do it again next year...

To all you other slackers that didn't make it to Airventure:  WTF is wrong with you???

Using the polishing compound didn't cause it to crack, applying too much heat in one area can cause it to crack.  Just spread the heat around.  The coating on lexan is critical to its standing up to cleaners and such.  When gas gets on it, the lexan is attacked from the screw holes and edges.  Wham, an instant mess!  Mine happened on the "c" model when gas came out the overhead vent, since removed, brand new windshield and side window ruined.

here is the best I can come up with off hand.  I will go through the Avid com newsletters and see if I can find the original article.

I was just running through the old Avid Com files and found where they went from a 5" tab to a 7" tab to be able to break the tail wheel free.  Just a simple bolt on as I made.

    Hello all,

We are in the middle of installation of the flight controls, now on the F7A Mod. Does anyone have the instructions from airdale that came with the F7A Mod for the Avid Flyer? We really need this as we somehow managed to make it down here without the F7A instructions that should have come with the kit.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

I looked back on my constuction log.  I originaly put .090 in mine, but it cracked before I ever flew it.  I replaced it with .060" and then again with .060 after a fuel over flow issue.  The .060 is easy to work with and you can have your windshield replaced in a couple hours of dedicated work.

If polishing it made it crack, she was getting too damn brittle anyway.

Look back at Jack's post, he outlines the difference pretty well.
Both of my Fox's had .060 material with them. The mod 1 someone
made, the mod 111, never built, also had .060 material.
I just replaced what they had.
The 60 is really easy to work with and 80--93 (aircraft spruce #) more
    labor intensive to install.

Idon't think it had anything to do with the polishing compound but I now have a cracked windshield. So the 2 thicknesses seem to be 0.060 and 0.080 is there any advantage to the 0.080 or should I just use the 0.060.

I checked the thickness on the two 4X8 sheets I have left
and sure enouh they are .060.
My windsheld does bow in but not much, doesn't touch the tubes.
Maybe I get back in the air when Leni comes home, @ 1 1/2 weeks.
Had an accident to my left hand, couple surgeries latter, will
be able to hold the stick soon.?

  22. akflyer added a post in a topic 8 inch wheels on an Avid

I looked at quite a few different ATV hubs to try and find something I could use.  Was never able to come up with something I likes.  I found a used set of kitfox hubs and picked those up but have never swapped over.  I am going to just use 26" airstreaks for mine next year.  Right now my 24" are doing OK but are heavy, and I will be going to floats then skis for the winter soon.

8 inch wheels on an Avid
Looking at some of the pictures of tundra tires on Avids, my tires are looking a little weather checked around the sidewalls and I don't know about planes but for a car I would be nervous. Any how I would like to figure out how to mount 8 inch wheels. I know some of you have used Kitfox hubs but is there another way to do it. I have a couple of old ATVs that look like I could mount both the hubs and brakes any thoughts?

Darn, I thought is was .065 Lexan.  If it is lexan, be careful when using polishing compounds, the coating is very thin.  I think the .090 is used if the windshield  flattens back against the tubes in the middle at higher speeds.  I know it is a bugger to get it to form the compound curve at the wing root. I'm using .080 or .090 on my Avid + and had to use heat to get it to take the proper shape.  With lexan you have to be very careful with heat too, the manufacturer claims that cracking will happen if the entire sheet isn't heated.  I had to use heat lamps to do it.
