so is this a one time sales tax, or something you have to pay every year?  bout time for a tea party... or a 100LL party at the county assessors doors.  who is bringing the matches?

I am the unlucky taxpayer who got caught.  I was told that the tax is on the kit regardless if it is complete or not.  They don't care if it ever gets completed or not.  You have 20 days from purchase of the kit to pay State taxes, after that you are in violation.  I did not have to pay penalties, only intrest and tax from 2005.  Russ.

    Using The Stewart Systems products.
I am using the Stewart System on my MK IV HH.  THE fabric and EkoFill was straight forward with no problems.  I am in the process of painting the fuselage with the two part poly in white.  Some tips for this are,  1. make sure the viscosity cup is accurate. Use a #30 drill to deburr the hole, water should take 15 sec's. to empty.  2. Use a gram scale to measure mixture.  What ever amount of Part A used divide by 3.3 = Part B.  Divide Part A by 2.75 = water.  3. If vary warm when painting keep water in refrigerator. 4. Most important is to use fluid settings as directed in video, failure will result in runs.

Does Spot use a stationary satellite or one that makes passes overhead?  If it's stationary you could end up with a line-of-sight problem.  Did you hear anything about that?  The system sure is cheap, but I wonder if there are any limitations?  My luck, I'd be behind a mountain if it was needed.  I like the idea of being able to send messages with it, can't do that with a GPS I don't think

Damn I'm slow!  When did I get the new custom name? I'll have to live with it 'til I do something better, right? I use the belly mount on my Avid, temps stay right at 150 so far, I'm starting to think about what to do this winter when I put the skiis on. Can I just slow down the air going into the scoop? On the powered parachutes I installed an adjustable louver to shut off the air as needed. I guess we'll wait 'til the snow flies and see what happens.
Thanks again for all the help. ;D

I got one for Christmas last year from my wife and now I can't hide anyplace. lol Just kidding but she likes it when I turn on the tracking so she sees where I'm flying. And she likes it when I remember to send her the "I'm okay message when I'm late getting home. You're right, best peace of mind I've ever found. Actually I trust it more that the 121.5 ELT. And I can send a message to friends if I need help that isn't urgent too.
    That's my 2 cents worth,

Doug, seriously, how you (or anyone) can live in, much less operate a business, in NY amazes me.

Ok, my bad. I just called him and he confirmed NYS, not Fed, tax. Not sure if I heard wrong in the original conversation but it makes sense. Gawd, after this year's state budget fiasco, I think us NY taxpayers are just so shell-shocked from another year of crazy-huge tax increases across the board plus a slug of brand new taxes and fees, we don't even know where they're coming from anymore. >

I talked to my cousin who picked one up last year.  He said he gave it to his FIL who was using it in his cherokee 6 all over the state and they said it shoed his track and messages just fine.  If you look at the coverage map, about 99% of the state has full coverage.

I know it has full coverage in any of the areas I would be flying the Avid to or riding the snowmachines, or taking out on the boat.

    Doug,
Does Russ know about using a postal scale to measure his components when mixing the color coats?  When I talked to the Stewart System folks at Arlington, they recommended weighing each part rather than using a paint cup to determine the correct mix.  Many times faster and more accurate too.  I got mine at Staples for around $38.00.  They, Stewart Systems, have a dvd on using the scale and will give it to you for free.  Nice thing about that scale is that it has a tare wt. function that lets you weigh only the contents of the paint container, and not the container itself and it will weigh up to 5 lbs.

    Leni,
I've heard that we're right on the edge of their satellite coverage and reception is spotty.  Does anyone in your area use one? I Think I'd give Eagle Enterprises a call and see if they recommend using Spot, or if there is a better system for use in AK.  Their business is emergency equipment and should know how well Spot works up here.

Their number is (907) 562-2331, 700 W International Airport Rd.

You get what you (don't) vote for.  Elections have consequences.  We are all learning this lesson, now.

(And for the record, there is no federal sales tax, yet.  Your buddy has his governments messed up, state versus fed, or he's being scammed.)

You can install the poly tanks in a wing without an old tank. I described with pics in THIS THREAD, pg 2.

I understand about a state tax, but I would be leery about a Federal tax. I don't believe that there are any Luxury taxes on aircraft kits. If it is legit he will receive a letter on official IRS stationary with a bill to be sent to an official IRS address.

the beerchug is next to the big gun.  easiest way to include the "chug" is to just type the following without the spaces : beerchug :  you can do the same with any of the emo's once you get to know the names of them  just like : nut kick : without the spaces would be

    I concur.

"I can fly 10 minutes from the airport and it would take a good rescue effort to find me by normal methods."

It would be good with the snow machines too since you can ride farther in 10 minutes then you could walk out in 3 days.

In Mich., it's called a "Value Tax", and the State will bill you if "they" feel the value is more then the actual purchase price.

The object of the game (here) is to convince "them" that , as it was, at the time of purchase, the plane had very little "value" due to things such as "out of annual...,  leaking fuel lines, fuel stains, unknown issues due to improper long term storage, the actual cost of repairs (at a FBO... at $80.00/hr naturally...) blaa blaa blaa.

I was originally charged at a "value" of over $45,000.00  ($2700.00 "tax")
That pissed me off... and by the time A&P, IA Steve got done, with the itemized letter and cost estimates, the final  "tax" was $60.00, plus $8.00 penalty and interest.
    Revenge is sweet.

I can fly 10 minutes from the airport and it would take a good rescue effort to find me by normal methods.  I think I have convinced myself to go ahead and order one.  I have seen alot of places that sell them for 150.00 with a 149.99 mail in rebate with subcription activation.  I think it may be the best 100 a year I can spend.
