Not sure of the exact measurment, but the tanks do fit between front and rear spar inside of the old tanks.
I think the RR covers with fabric.
Stace said silicone them in, then use houshold spray foam. I am going to just spray foam the 4 corners.
Look at the bottom of the tank. You glue three supports from rib to rib then set the tank on these. I am going to set mine on the bottom of the old tank.
No stringer at the top of tank. None on the fiberglass one either.
Tanks won't fit 12" oc ribs.
Tank sump and fuel outlet are on the bottom outside of the wing with a fiberglass tank.
    All tanks have filler necks.
Brass threaded bulkhead fittings from tank to tank.

    Another Avid takes flight soon
The gentleman I sold my old Mk-IV to has completed high-speed taxi tests and says he's ready to fly!
Here's hoping for a fine first flight!

Thanks for the pics, looks like wingtanks.com has some competition. After seeing these tanks, a couple of thoughts/questions come to mind:

is the front to rear spar spacing in the Ridge Runner (RR) same as Avid's (27-1/2" if I recall correct)?are these tanks installed in the RR without any top skin (ie. no top ply or aluminum skin as used in the wingtanks.com poly tank install)?are these tanks installed in the RR using same procedure as Kitfox, ie. glue to spars w/ Dow Corning 739 RTV Plastic Adhesive?when installed in the RR, is there any supporting under-structure (like the wingtanks.com support tubes), or do they simply sit on the spar coves?the filler neck and nose rib indentations look to be spaced perfectly for Avid wings with 18" o.c. rib spacing and (2) nose ribs betweennot good with Hauler 12" o.c. ribs and (2) or (3) nose ribs between, ie. nose rib spacing over tank will not match rest of wingfor HH wing, even if covered with top skin and 'false' short rib tails are used behind tank to keep symmetrical rib spacing look, filler neck falls right on rib lineno groove along tank top for longitudinal nose rib stringer used by Avidtank sumps require exposed (below wing, rather than in-wing and through root) fuel line routingno 'neckless' filler option for 2nd tank in series?same (leak-prone?) press plumbing connections for tanks in series
Just thinking out loud, what else am I missing?

Hell yeah! looks like your getting close to getting her back in the air! From the looks of it, the new tanks fit pretty well! If there are any bastad parts to the install, post it up so other needing the tanks can save a step of two!

Weighed my tanks, 6.2lbs each. Put gas in them, they hold 5.2 gallons each.

Sounds like my kind of flying! too bad you are 4000 miles away

I have the 6" matco pneumatic. I am not real impressed with it. I am looking for an 8" bushwheel right now. If I have to have weight in the tail, I want it useful! I keep the stick shoved way forward to keep as much weight off the tail wheel and spring as possible. You can stand on the brakes, keep the power in and use full down and it will take alot of pressure off the tailwheel.

I was watching that thread over there and was considering it... but then decided I want to stay as light as possible. This leaves me with no option but a 2 stroke for what I want to be able to do. Hope I did not make the wrong choice as this experimenting crap gets expensive

Never took apart a E box, but have done B and C boxes. Why are you pulling the fly wheel? does the new engine not come with one? The pinion gear needs a little heat from a heat gun to soften the locktite / sleeve retainer. I just use an allen wrench for the locking tool. Make sure it is not a "ball" end wrench as it will pop the ball off. I will look and see if any of my books show the E box and the removal.

You say you are going to switch gear boxes, why would you pull the flywheel?
I've been in on three motor teardowns on my motors and several others and none
of them came apart any way near what this "warning" told you.
If you pull the flywheel you can use an ordinary three bolt puller, just make sure
the bolts don't go thru and hit any mag coil. Also use a puller with a "shoe" to
protect the crank shaft. If your talking about the pinion gear, it won't jump either.
I would "never" heat the crank shaft, heat would expand the shaft making it tighter.
Maybe their thinking a little heat to loosen the locktight?
A little heat around the flywheel hub shouldn't hurt, but again no heat inside
    on the coils!!!!
The fixsation pin is a pin that fits in the fuelpump vaccum tube and into the crankshaft. A pin of any sort that will fit into the brass tube and strong(hard)
enough not to bend. One can be made from a good quality screwdriver shaft. I have
a store bought one, its about 3" long only.

Need walked through removing and reinstalling an E-box
I am getting ready to swap my E box onto a Blue Head 582. The best documentation I've found so far is in the CPS catalog article #55 http://www.800-airwolf.com/pdffiles/ARTICLES/part%2055.PDF The guy selling me the engine is sending the Rotax Puller with it to borrow. The article also mentions a Fixation Pin to lock the crank which I don't have. The instructions look pretty straight forward but can someone with some experience on these point out any gotcha's or better yet a step by step account on how to do it? I've already been warned I'll probably have to heat the crank to the get the flywheel off and to have a blanket or something on the floor because it will most likely fly off the crank. I have the 582 rebuild CD but I keep forgetting it out at the hangar. Does it cover this procedure? Any info would be awesome.

I know that there is a better way to link sites but this will get you to a very interesting one using the yamaha genesis snowmobile engine converted to a rotax box good for 120 hp and up fairly light weight. Looks like he will build the adapter or sell the plans but the engine has seen some good flight testing

    Joey
It seems to be in good condition with a few mistakes made
during the original build, which I intend to fix.
    The motor is a 582 mod 90 w/c box.
If every thing goes well it will fly this spring when the
    ice is gone.
Leni is here fixing my computer stuff and he says it can
    fly sooner...it has wheels.
There were a couple on Barnstormers last week.

I should have that blue head on the way next week. On another note I did my craziest flying to date this morning. I found some rolling hills in some pasture land about 10 miles from the airport. They were about 3-500 ft high with plenty of room to fly in and around the hills. I was doing runs up the small canyons yanking and banking following the terrain with my wingtips about 20 feet from the ground. Man it was so much fun. I also found one of the hills that was really smooth and did some uphill landings. If I touched down about 100 ft from the peak I could bleed off all my speed as I rolled over the peak and the hammer the throttle down the backside and take off again. These were my first REAL off airport landings as it was just a hill in the middle of nowhere. My bird did great although I'm thinking I'm going to need a pneumatic tailwheel if I do too much of that kind of stuff. The hard rubber Maule is pretty rough. I'm sure its putting a beating on that cheezy little tailwheel spring and one bolt that holds it to the airplane.

Appears to be in pretty decent shape underneath. What engine is that? What's your time frame for the rebuild? Please start a thread for when you start putting it back together. I've always loved the Catalina. If I ever find one around here I'll probably buy it..we have a ton of water around here.

    Navman F210 Fuel Flow testing
Finished up my Navman install this morning and went and flew for an hour to test it out. It appears to be fairly accurate right out of the box. I wish I could have hid my transducer a little but because of the location of my filter, shut off valve and heater door this is really the only place I could put it and still get at least a 45 degree angle.

I had to buy some brass barbed 3/8 to 1/4 reducer because the fittings on the transducer are 3/8" ID. I used a couple zip ties through a piece of fuel line as a stand off to isolate it from vibration.

Here is a 55mph climb at 6200rpm pulling about 900fpm and burning 6.1gph

Here is 75IAS and 5500 rpm burning 4.5gph. These are pretty decent numbers for a long range cruise. My ground speed was 82mph here.

Here is a close up with the tach and fuel flow. I was going to install my tiny tach today for a more accurate RPM but I left the battery to my drill on the charger at home!

    Finally my ugly mug

Put 1.1 on it today... 15.2 hours and counting.

I rode in one out to Johnston Atol... BIG SUMBITCH! My house in hawaii overlooked Hickam AFB. My living room window was even with the approach path going into H AFB. I could sit there for hours watching the different planes coming and going.. but I needed a bigger picture window for the C5!
