Remind me not to have dinner with you if you're pissed! The bad thing is after a few experiences with fellow aviators like this do you trust any? I mean a bad car part or something similar is bad enough but you don't just coast to the side of the road in a malfunctioning airplane,(well not very often anyways)

Well the fella has the mags back and has them on FEEBAY now, he says he has sent me a bank check so we'll see. On a brighter note I took a jug off the lycoming I bought this summer and it's in great shape! Good thing cause I can't afford to rebuild one.

I followed this accident from day one. It was very apperant to me what happend and the findings of the report confirm what I thought all along. Accelerated stalls were one of the biggest things that my instructor hammered me on. He knew I was going to be out poking around and looking at animals on the ground at low level, so he hammered and hammered accelerated stalls and uncordinated accelerated stalls (moose hunter stalls) into me. Moose hunter stalls is one of the biggest killers up here followed closely by CFIT. One thing I wont push is the weather (anymore, I have been known to do some real stupid shit years ago when it came to the weather), and I keep my speed way up when circling to look at something and keep that ball centered.

I am sure the pilot did not intend to spud in and was just trying to get the most performance possible out of the that plane. This is something we do damn near every day and dont think twice about it.

My thoughts and prayers to those airmen and thier families.

<to those who take the final flight

We got this info quite a while back with a lot more detail. Bottom line they flew a perfectly good airplane into the ground. The audio from the flight deck is very humbling about 2 seconds from the end. Remember guys were not invincible.

Congrats! I attempted to do my BFR today with the local flight school and weather cancelled for the first time in a year...we were socked in solid with a low fog layer all day.

Unfortunately that was my plan but wake up to ice storms so I will work in the garage on my own plane. I had hoped to be able to take up my wife daughter 10 years old and mother just about 80 but don't ask her she'll whoop your ass for it she doesn't even have birthdays. She is planning another trip back up to Diomede this winter hopefully they get enough ice for a runway taking the helicopter gets expensive.

OH MAN, that SUX on the ground loop! Even the manual advises against high speed taxi tests

Hope he can get it fixed up in short order.

Awesome, I hope to need it around the 3rd or 4th!

Thanks, that sounds great. Leni, Brett e-mailed me and said our tailski's should be done next week. He also wants to talk to me about the spring gear tommorrow. Sorry to hear about Rich's plane.

Brett's a really good guy, he just gets a little overwhelmed sometimes... We did chat about spring gear setups and the feasibility of some type of "bungee elimination kit".

I've offered to help when ever he needs. Now is my slow time. He has one of the guys from the neighborhood bartering for labor.

(Rich built a real nice Avid mark IV and was going to have it inspected last Saturday. The previous Monday, counter to everyone's advise, he decided to "high speed taxi test" it and as you would expect he ground looped. Folded the left main, twisted the tail, etc, etc. Pretty sad. He was finishing the plane just as he was running out of money...)

Hey Larry, you must have a size 12 or better motivator When you gonna quit your day job and go in full time helping him make parts for us lowlifes

Thanks for the motivational speach. I get home the 28th and am on a tight schedule but would love to try out the new tail ski!

    Good Luck!

I will never forget the day of my check ride. My brain locked up tighter than a time lock vault at the bank. The oral part I blew in a huge way and was barely able to stutter out my name let alone the answers to the questions. The only saving grace was the DPE owned the flight school and he had lots of hours flying with me or me renting his planes. After about 30 minutes of stuttering I told him I was done, let go do the air work then come back to the oral. The second I got in the plane, my brain decided to start working again as I relaxed I was kind of a dick to him and I told him that I was PIC of this plane, and not to pull the usual BS on me trying to distract me etc, just let me fly the damn plane. The second we got in the air he started mixing the oral exam in with the practical and I was so relaxed and at ease that I did not even notice it. Once back on the ground he congratulated me, told me he knew I could do it all I was just letting my brain get in the way of my ability while in the class room (big shocker there).

Go easy on the coffee or energy drinks before the check ride and get some good sleep!

    Av8r3400,
Thanks for the help, could use that tail ski now. Would you mention to Brett that I am interested in the spring gear also. How far along is that project coming? My bugees are getting weak.

    Check Ride tomorrow
I may not be the best student out there and I have pretty much put my plane on hold , only getting little bits done as I can scrape the extra money together, but tomorrow if all goes well I just might pass my Oral exam and Check Ride, My instructor will be my DPE. Today I put in a few hours in the ercoupe with another instructor finally so I can be recommended to take my Check Ride, Take off the wind was straight down the runway when we got back to do a few touch and goes 20 to 25 knot gusts 90 degres to the only runway, wasn't pretty but I kept it on the centerline and the plane will still fly for tomorrows test.

Yikes.. Was yours for a matco tail wheel or the maule style? I ordered one a few weeks ago for the matco style and may end up building my own if it does not show up in the next couple of weeks..

Larry the plane that Mark Ferkin just finished has a pretty crazy baggage area. Ty posted some pics on the KF forum a while back in their first flight thread. As I recall it didn't take much modding and it I saw it in person it was huge.

Dealing with a baggage area is part of the list. I really like the way the Eurofox/Aerotrek planes are done in the baggage area. Metalized, upholstered and big...
