Got my tail ski installed yesterday and flew 2 hrs today. Seems to work great. Landed in plowed corn stuble with no problem. With out it my tail wheel would sink to the plowing and beat up my tail section. Tried knee deep snow with no problem. Well worth the money.

I'll make an inventory if you think it sounds like stuf you want the short list from memory is a complete and flying durastik with a tower hobbies .46 bb and a back-up motor os .40 that the mount is broken on one bolt hole, this has a 6 channel radio that is fm and only about 5 years old also tower hobbies brand. a project durabat that is incomplete but have the wings fuse and gear, empennage. Accessories are just alot 12vlt starter various servos glow plugs ect. also have another radio have to check it out but I think it's a 4 channel fm futaba. actually I'll take less for it cause shipping will be pricey! I haven't flown the plane or played with the T-Maxx since I got into my accident now that I have the Waga-bond and the cub project I need to let it go, would be stuff better suited for a beginner not someone already into it like you. I just hate to see it sit until it's no good. Merry Christmas fly safe!

    Leni,

That sounds good. I can take Friday off too so I could meet you out there on Friday the 7th. I got a primer on the plane now and it is a tremendous help in starting but still hard when it is down toward 0 degrees like it has been. It makes me nervous so I will plan to bring an extra battery and jumper cables plus a charger if you think we can get power to the planes. I know it could be well below 0 out there. I borrowed Jacks wing covers and will try to get an engine cover fab'd up. Jack said you built a compact engine pre-heater so I would be interested in the details on it; maybe I can get one put together by then.

Let me know what I should bring. Hope the weather and winds cooperate; we are in the typical winter high wind cycle. There were a few airplanes piled on top of each other at Wasilla from last week's winds; a 182 ended up on top of a Stinson, Chief on its back and a Taylorcraft beat itself to death at Anderson lake; some others out at Palmer, pretty ugly. I decided to fly on Saturday; first time with the skis on the A+. There is almost no snow at all left on the lakes; at an idle I was skating along on the ice at 15 mph, fortunately just a few small patches of snow left I could dive into to sort of slow down. I decided I could line up on those on landing so I took off. Once I got to about 700' the wind started; I only flew for about 45 minutes out west and started back . My ground speed dropped to 45 mph and it was a fun ride home. I managed to get down and turned without hitting the trees on the far end.

Here is wishing for severe clear and calm on the 7th - 9th.

I have done 10s of thousands of dollars worth of internet deals, and only got burned once early on by a guy in Hawaii over an RC engine. Was a $250 and I was a little shy after that for awhile, but now I am worse than ever about internet deals

    Merry Christmas!

Well the guy came through and was true to his word I cashed the Bank Check today, he even repaid me for the shipping, happy not to have to drive to MN to get my money! Still I'll think twice before I do any more high dollar internet deals again. Merry Christmas everyone!

I just looked and he charged my card so it must be on the way. I should have a chance to test it out around the 4th !

Give us an update on how she works for you, and maybe a pic or two of the install so I know what I am looking at for how it mounts on the matco tail wheel.

Time to resurrect this thread. Anyone want to try and make a run to the lodge around the 8th? My work schedule just changed today and I will be home so I am hoping to get some flying in. I am open during the week too if anyone can get away, I should be ready to fly the 4th to the 11th as long as the weather cooperates!

    Thanks everyone.

It has the wing extensions installed. As for performance this is what the current owner told me:

"I cruise 85-90, stall is 38. I climb out pretty fast at 70 or so and still get 1100 fpm climb rate" That is solo. We will see when I get it!

Welcome Bill - Congrats on the new toy. Does your plane have the wing extension kit or full length spars? Do you know the amount of washout? Always curious how a lightweight Mk-IV speed wing w/ full length .065" spars, ribs 18" o.c. and 1-1/2" twist or less would perform w/ a 582 up front. Share some numbers please once you get comfortable with it. Thnx

    Avid Mk IV New Owner
Well Mr Lenny (AKFlyer) has been talking and showing me his videos for a few years now so I finally pulled the trigger and purchased an Avid Mk IV with a 582 and the extended aerobat wing. Will be going down to pick it up the Monday after Christmas. Looking forward to flying to it!

You guys have probably seen it on Barnstormers but just in case here it is:

Thanks alot Lenny,I will document all of the info I can.Not really sure if the DAR is going to require me to know this but I want to be ready.I will need it sooner or later.I still have to paint cowling, flaps and ailerons and then just go over everything with a fine tooth comb.Im going to tear down engine and inspect and reseal but I think I,ll waint until everything is finished.I did a rough weigh in and its seems to be a lot heavier than Skyraider advertises. They claim it weighs 450but mine will be closer to 500.May just be a taxi queen but I will find out. Thanks Randy

Quick run down 3000- 3500 RPM, max drop between mags 300 RPM. Static RPM shoot for 61-6200, should give you around 6500 on take off (max HP and Tq right at 6500). EGTs should be 1000-1100 on static, it will go up a bit when the engine unloads as you gain forward speed.

    582 Info
Im getting my Skyraider build close enough to start thinking about some engine data. Was wondering what RPMs you do a mag check at on a 582 and what RPM loss do you have for each mag drop? Also what RPM am I shooting for on a static runup to get my prop at the right setting? My prop is a 68 inch 3 blade Powerfin and gearbox is a 3 to 1 C box.Can you get any EGT info from a static run up or is that something that has to be done in flight. We are at 2150 field elevation. Sorry for all the questions but Im getting excited as hell,Im looking for first flight by spring so I just want to have all my ducks in a row. Thanks Randy
