Another thought is the pads.. if they are glazed over your not going to get crapola for brakes. The geometry is hosed on them and you dont get good pressure to the calipers as Joey said. The new pedals that Mikesk makes will fix that. But I think you would have to get the shorter MC4D masters too..

I put his pedals on mine and just shortened the shafts on the MC1 maters that came on my plane. It was a marked improvement that will be even better when I get the MC4D masters on.

It's not your calipers it's the geometry of your master cylinders on your rudder pedals. Your not getting enough working pressure down to your Master cylinders. Get a Matco TW I love mine.

Read through this thread for info on how I went from Go Kart mechanical brakes to Matco Brakes that will literally stand my bird on it's nose.

Got blown out on my reply. I TOO HATE MY BRAKES. Got a MKIV Heavy Hauler with an EA81 and it takes me forty acres to manuever the thing. I was told by the builder that it's never had any brakes (I suspect this is an understatement) and I should only be using the SCOTT steerable for handling the pointy end. I'm thinking of visiting a salvage yard and looking for a good pair of FREIGHTLINER assemblys. Another idea was to attach five foot handles to each master cylinder.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated. BTW has anyone ever thought of TWO calipers on one backing plate?

Yeah, which Doug are you refering to?? Hopefully you didnt pick up his fat bastard. If so we are for sure gonna be sending Russ over to have a talk to that boy!

Welcome to the dark side! Hope you enjoy the build and then the flying of your Avid. Feel free to hang out on here and post up pics of the build and ask any questions. Pretty friendly and helpful group here if you can take a shot to the ribbs now and again if your work progress slows too much

You can fire it up with the wings folded, but fuel wont feel worth a darn. It only takes a couple minutes to fold them out and then they will feed like they are spose to.

    Run Up
I've got my engine back on after tearing it down and putting new seals in it. Done a ton of other touch ups to the plane as well and ready to run it up.

I still have it at home in the garage and was wondering if its ok to run it up with the wings folded back. I was planning to tie it to my truck so it can't accidently move on me and fire it up in the driveway. Anything i should know before i do it?

    Thanks,

    Darcy

I'm in Vermilion, AB. Maybe one day after spraying season is over we could split the distance and meet in Kindersley. I still head down there probably twice a year to visit my old AME boss and shoot the breeze. He's rebuilding a Cessna crane and i'd like to see he his progress this summer.

That yellow avid belonged to my vet(cow doctor). Sold it a few years back.I lent him my promotional vids for the fox and avid and the next thing I know he had that plane. So where do you and your avid currently live?Would be nice to see a real deal avid 4 in the flesh.

I've flown in to Swift Current a time or two. Love the old WW2 BCATP hangars there. I use to work as an AME apprentice many years ago out of Kindersley and we'd go do annuals there and all over south western sask. If remember correctly there is someone with a yellow Avid that keeps it at YYN.

Are you by any chance planning on flying up to Corman Airpark for their annual fly in?

    Thanks Leni!
Just rember when you do stick the mc-4d's on the plane to get the ram shaft right tight to the back of the rudder pedal....Your plane's rudder bars must have had that really narrow mc tab spacing. bummer.

Good looking bird! I put your pedals in my plane, but had to use the old MC1 masters because I did not have time to modify the rudder bars and weld in the new tabs for the MC4D masters. They were a marked improvement on the old masters so I am really hoping for great things with the new masters!

I fly all the time without radio (I'm able to put it out of the plane)I just use it when I want to land on a big airport

My avid is on a private airport in the middle of nowhere

    Beautiful countryside! France, I assume?

What is flying like there? Do you have to maintain constant contact with air traffic control? Is that a private airport? Tell us more...

Ok Gentleman here is a couple of pics of my plane, taken a while back when I flew into the local airport to do an altimeter adjustment.Got on the brakes good and hard to see I could stop on pavement.estimate my stopping distance at between 60/75 feet. Those matco brakes really can be made to work.
