    I'm sure that if the outrer wall did not expand, there was not enough change inside to worry about.
    Spruce lists NNR at 1500, NBR at 2000, and some other "super slick" nylon at 2500 psi.
    I have a tendency to "build heavy & worry less. Guess I will go with the heavier of these.

    I used that crummy/clumsy to workwith 1/4 in parker parflex with a working pressure rating of 450psi to do the pressure testing of the setup I made.Holding 600 plus psi I took measurements with a digital caliper trying to detect any swelling.Near as I could tell there wasn't any.As a function of percentage I'm pondering that any of these lines can't be any more than a few points appart.Of course a distortion could be happening internally that doesn't make it measurably thru to the outer wall.

    AMEN to all the above, especially what Torch said on Mac and Lane. The good thing is that available to all members are the magazine archives. I can go back to before i was born, 1970, and read about true experimentals and the way they were built. That kicks A$$! Some of those old guys used to design stuff by chalking it out on the garage floor and cutting tube and tacking it together ala Curtis Pitts style. That was cool! Those were the days! Bryce

    The EAA publication used to be called the Experimenter or something like that. The the content was relevant and I loved each new issue. Looked forward to them and read them cover to cover. Now I take 5 minutes if I even look at them at all and toss them. I'm a member of both EAA and AOPA and they seem more and more alike all the time. Much more into new high dollar stuff because that is probably where the money comes from.

    And everything has gotten so political. I suppose it is the way our society is heading, but I get tired of advocacy all the time. I mean I appreciate it and I get involved locally, but I feel if these groups had their way we'd all be in meetings everywhere supporting aviation and not doing it.

    And there are more and more groups forming all the time. The latest being the Recreational Aviation Foundation. When I first caught wind of them I thought now THESE guys have it right. Seems like two or three years later they are all advocacy too.

    Maybe that the way its always been and I'm just late to the party, but it doesn't seem like it. It seems like things are really changing and not for the better.

    Randy was talking on another post, and mentioned reading the article, and stated that he would have probably gone that route instead of the IFA Ivo and saved a lot of money.
    I really posted this to let everyone know about this option. Maybe there are members who do not get Kitplanes mag, but I sure do recommend the mag.

    Randy,
    Your comment about the Whirlwind blades sent me looking for my July issue of Kitplanes mag.
    I had passed over that article because I had seen the high prices for Jim Rust's Whirlwind Constant Speed Props.
    After reading the article, I might seriously consider buying those blades to put into a Warp Drive Hub
    - but I saw nothing about warranty.
    Warp Drive has a lifetime warranty on their props. I have even heard of them giving A REPLACEMENT prop, IF the original was not performing well.

    The increase in performance over the Warp Drive blades was impressive.

    Maybe it is time for Dave K. at Warp Drive to wake up from his 100 year nap and design some new blades.
    Notice that Whirlwind makes the complete prop for rotax.
    Notice too, that the testing was in a RANS with a 912, which does not have the 100 mph "wall" that our AvidFoxes hit without the rib modification or VGs on the bottom of the wing.

    Now you're getting it. It wouldn't matter if you were using a 12" diameter sewer pipe, the volume of flow from the M/C is the same. How far that volume of fluid flows in the tubing means virtually nothing as long as it can flow with minimal restriction.

    Shoot! And I thought that hydraulics and physics classes were over for me ! Now, you and Leni have me thinking again, and that can be dangerous for me !
    I understand what you are saying about the pressure. Now I am thinking about volume in the little 1/2 inch bore MCs and transferring that volume to the caliper pistons. Appears that the flow thru 1/8 lines would be faster, requiring less pedal movement. Could I be right on this? Or does it matter not?
    After 5 minutes of serious thought - the same volume from the MCs would be needed at the caliper no matter what size line, so speed of flow would not be the factor - just flow of volume. Got it ! Another 5 minutes, and I'll have another brainfart - Better stop while still sober ! Thanks.

    Randy, If you read my corrections, you are probably right on the negative switching. Otherwise, you have to run another hot from the bat to the switch and another wire back to the solinoid. I'm fairly sure that you only ran hot from bat to solinoid, and the negative up to the switch. Makes sense to me so you dont have an extra hot wire going a long ways.
    However, if you ran the extra hot from bat to ignition and pumps, you could use that and back to sol from switch, then a short one from sol to ground near bat. I like the negative switching better - one less hot wire to cause trouble.
    At least yours is real - mine is still in my head.

    I'm also at about 25 degrees flap travel. Since my original post on this thread I have put several hundred hours on the plane and use full flapperon often without inversion or any other issues.

    I still don't understand the fear of flap use with these planes... ?

    Fly fishing
    Tried to get a last chance King with the boy last weekend but hit a full valley of fog on the McArther. Headed for a different location on the Skwentna R. and found a few Rainbows instead. Nothing like a good father-son fly fishing trip. The last picture is a new strip I landed on the Talachalitna at a place my buddy just bought with a little cabin. It is just a little challenging enough to be fun.

    I'm a supporting member for their voice in general aviation. They lost me on the magazine when they brought in that arrogant asshat mac maclellen. He has no business writing for a sport aviation magazine. I'm also tired of Lane Wallace, she wrote recently about taking a "risk" by riding in a freind's RV9. That's just what a magazine about experimental airplanes needs, a journalist who writes what a risk it is to ride in an experimental airplane. Lauren Paine is boring and I don't need to hear anymore of his military flying stories. I'm old(my EAA# is 10078)so I miss the days of tech and real grassroots flying they used to feature. Now when SA comes I go to the "what our members are building/restoring", then look and see if I know anybody who has "gone west" then I pitch it in the trash. You can renew your membership on the phone and request "no magazine" and they will do it, costs less too. That's what I'm doing next time, I thought I would give them one more chance but now I have learned. Rant over for now.

    Thanks Ed, I didn't look at my wiring schedule and was trying to do this from memory; and maybe I was not very clear so I will have to relook at the solonoid wiring. The solonoid main lugs connect the battery positive main wire but I thought it was tripped on by a switch to the negative. I will have to check this again. Also will figure out how to install the 60 amp breaker on my alternator output.

    As Leni mentioned on the other discussion about brakes, line size would not affect brake presure unless there is significant fluid flow which is not the case with these brakes. Pressure is strictly a function of the force on the master piston and the piston area to get the pounds per square inch. If the lines are flexible (balloon) it will reduce this pressure, so the working presure of the lines is also important but it should not matter much between 1/8 or 1/4 except the 1/4 lines will require more volume to fill them due to the same amount of ballooning since there is more inner wall area.

    I have heard a lot of complaints about SA as well. Don't get me wrong, as an EAA member I appreciate what EAA does for me to help protect our flying freedoms. I get both KP and SA and KP always has a lot more usefull information for the builder and experimentor. Like you say, the SA is a more social flying type magazine that is at least 50% about Oshkosh in every issue and ramping up to 90% Oshkosh as it gets closer. It is interesting and I read it but it's not much for builders unless you build or own an RV; otherwise it is almost all about factory built planes. It makes you wonder why they keep teh name "Experimental". KP has a lot more useable and focused information; for instance the July issue had a couple articles on props and the Rans S7. These are not as in depth as I would like at times but the prop test between the new whirlwind blades that fit the Warp Drive hub and the Warp Drive blades was good stuff. If I hadn't just bought my IVO IFA which I am still totally impressed with, I might have opted for a set of the new Whirlwind blades for about $1400 less.
    You got it; KP is much more for the experimental builder.

    I increased my flaperon "flap" travel to 26 degrees after I originally set mine up with 13 degrees or so. I used 26 degrees because I could still get full aeleron deflection (at full stick travel right and left) without binding the flaperons. With flaps full on and stick at full deflection the down flaperon is around 40 degrees and the up one is about 0. I have not experienced any control reversal at this setting but I have not tried a full deflection bank with flaps full on.

    Wow glad to see we are back on track. The reason I really like this forum is because everyone shares information and their experiences without trying to discount other people's ideas. Glad to see this was just an unintentional misunderstanding. Heck, when it was said only two people understood brake geometry and one was George Happ, I figured the other person had to be me. If we all agreed on everything I think all of our airplanes would be exactly the same. I want to thank everyone on here for giving me great ideas and information.

    Hope the bearing races come out OK Joey. I have changed out one set on my original Matco wheels on my MK 4 because the original owner over torqued the bolts that hold the halves together and cracked both wheels. The bearing races came out fairly easily though without heating; just made sure the wheels were flat on a piece of plywood and used a good sized punch and hand sledge. I think the steel race in the aluminum wheel cannot get locked in quite as tight as a steel race in a cast iron auto hub.

    One thing that I have been doing to lube my bearings every year when I change from skis to wheels is to use a needle tip in my grease gun and inject the grease on the inside of the bearing inside of the cage between the bearing rollers. You don't have to replace the seals that way. Just a tip that works for me.

    And, just to be complete: I could have mentioned that there are bearing pullers, threasded, slide-hammer, and hydraulic, that you could buy, but why spend money when you dont have to.

    Somewhere in the books it says, "aluminum heat-treat will be ruined if heated to more that 212F (hot water)".
    Believe that is in AC43-13?
    But, I do not know if his Douglas wheels are aluminum or steel.

    On my mkiv, I allowed my flaperons to drop 40 degrees and used it that way for 75+ hrs. I never experienced control reversal. I did quit using 40 degrees based only my speculation that it might be too much airload on the wings/flaperons/hangars. Bryce

    I think you'll find that the races will tap out of the aluminum wheels, using a drift or socket, fairly easily without the need for heat.

    Do to the difference in thermal expansion (Aluminum being greater). I would heat the hub with a heat gun and the race will come out easier.
