    Joey,
Where is it written that the screens have to be brass?  What is wrong with aluminum?  fuel lines are aluminum - sometimes.  Oh, I know - fittings are brass - screen is brass......aluminum fittings are lighter....
check Grainger?  BUT, is it really worth the time and effort when they don't cost much from Spruce?
Compared to your smartphone and other gadgets costs, they are almost like getting a free Obamaphone!

Thursday night I gradually woke up stiff as a plank in hospital's ICU, tubes up my nose & down my
throat, wires monitoring every function & all around my head, hell of a pain over my left ear, and a gorgeous nurse hovering over
    me.

It was obvious I'd been in a serious accident.

She looked at me deep & steady
and I heard her slowly say, 'You may not feel anything from the waist
    down.'

I managed to mumble in reply, 'Can I feel your tits, then?'

    Hey guys,
We definitely want to use the finger strainer as they prevent the resin bits that our fiberglass fuel tanks make over time from entering the fuel lines and stopping the air conditioner! My finger strainers for sure saved my A$$! Bryce

Anyone know where to buy brass screen? I want to build some finger screens but all I can find online is bulk. Wonder if my local Ace Hardware would carry it.

I think the general attitude here is to use the finger strainer, and check it at least at condition inspection, or when needed.

    Hey ED;

I will run a tab on it carefully, it must be debrief from fabrication that caused the problem in the first place,  i´m not using finger strainer, but I ordered one to install.

Medicals don't make good pilots - There was a Doctor in our area some years ago that owned a twin Piper - After the 3rd gear-up landing, his insurance company grounded him.

I am about to pull the trigger on a Ford Racing 306 c.i. 340HP crate engine for my 64 1/2 Mustang.... Ready to run with all the accessories it costs quite a bit less than a new 582!! Mind numbing the cost of the aircraft engines!! Wonder what a turbo'd IO-540 costs

Ive read a little about this Larry,I hope it goes through. Most pilots I know wouldnt go flying if they were not feeling medically up to it.Still have to do biannual check rides so doesnt make you less of a pilot.Alot of my friends will hold off flying because they dont want to do their medical for some reason or another and then when they do go back and get it they are not proficient at flying ,where as if they didnt need the medical they would have kept their proficiency up.In my mind the medical is an obstacle that gets in the way of alot of good pilots. The government always think they know whats best for us,they should look in the mirror and figure it out.Randy

    General Aviation Pilot Protection Act
Since the FAA has sat on their butts hoping this would go away, some courageous lawmakers have proposed a new law basically eliminating the third class medical for VFR.

It is pretty much just header wrap with a foil backing on it. The aluminum tape works but wont stay on for very long.  I used it to seal up the seams and I have to replace it every couple months.

I know where there are a couple of original Avid Nose forks. I do not know if he has the top cap, bushings, springs or steering linkages. Will check.

You stole my thunder, Ed. Just go out and price a new O200 lightweight or Lycoming 233. That Rotax is a bargain.

And if you think Rotax prices are going to come down - Just look at what the Contisaurus and Lycosaurus engines are selling for, and that is 1930's design - BTW:  With the blessing of the FAA who "Ordained" these old engines!
Somehow, we need to find a junkyard, low cost, low weight, auto engine to turn the fan!

    Hey Leni,
How thick is the fiber glass insulation on the muffler performance wrap that you used to wrap the muffler with. I have some extra fiberglass cloth and aluminum tape I'm thinking of making my own to save some$$$$! Thanks man, Bryce

Sorry Larry for the thread drift...I have thousands of miles on two stroke dirt bikes and still own one. My 582 is treated like a gem compared to that abuse my bikes have taken over the years and gotten me home.

Herman, I think Larry knows I am just pulling his chain... If I had a 912 laying around you can bet I would have it stuffed into the nose of my Avid.  I just hate the fact that Rotax is bending us over just because the military is using the 912 in the drones and therefore, selling them to the general public means little to nothing to Rotax.  The price for that engine is STUPID!  But, once again, if I had one you can bet I would use the hell out of it

I am getting over the price of Rotax shit now that I am looking at big bore Continental and Cessna prices...
