Leading Edge Flaps

I saw a friend the other day building a super stol from just aircraft.  The leading edge of the wing is a round root tube just like AVID.  The leading edge flap appears to rivot onto the leading edge root tube.  Would it be feasible to order the leading edge flaps and rivet them to an AVID Flyer.  It sure appears that way.

What you fella's thinks.

Those slats are very complex. There's a lot more to them. They move in and out with air loads and are in 2 different pieces. They add weight and kill cruise speed.
