    Solo X country today
I am almost done, the DPE who has been my instructorsays we just need an instructor to sign off so I can be tested by the DPE who was my Instructor, makes alot of sense doesn't it. The other instructors are out on charter te rest of the week so my DPE just signed me off for unlimited x country until one gets back to sign me off, Rousch Racing has been keeping them a little busy lately for some reason.

I heard somewhere that the wraps were supposed to be 13 and 1/2 inches each, is this correct and would you suggest 9 wraps as a start?

Been tying to get my cross country done but the winds have been gusting to 60 mph, at taxi speed even an ercoupe would be airborne, you guys are making me jealous at least I am getting more work done on my Avid.

I have an older HVLP Sharpe gun, prior t their finishline series, it does a real good job on paint using about half of what my old gun used It worked OK on the tail feathers but I think I went to heavy on the polyspray

    Covering Supplies
I am getting ready to start the covering on my Avid, I have already cvered the tailfeathes with poly fiber and have more than enough dacron, my question is how much polybrush, polyspray and polytone is required to cover the Dacron. I realize that since I have some your answers may not be exact but I would rather place this order at once before the winter temps make it impossible for me to do the job, If anyone has covered any model even a Kitfox I will take those estimates too, I need to order enough without orderig too much and wastig it. Thank you in advance.

'Just like everything else on this plane I am building the wide gear right now, I haven't dcided wether to put springs on it or stick with the bungees, Damn I have got to get the ole Lady to show me how to post pictures, I am trying to think of a part of this bird I haven't rebuilt yet, but the DAR says it looks like a new build to him. And though I hate to admit it my wife number 1 would make anyones look like a saint. (I don't hve o worry about her, she doesn't get out for another 5 to 10 with good behavior)

I have a shovelhead, it is supposed to mark its territory. But it was actually my wife who finally made me get the shovelhead, then I bought a wrecked Fatboy and totally rebuilt it, then I turned my Wideglide into a hardtail chopper nothing left but paint and reassembly, with my back in such terrible shape I can only make short rides, 25 or 30 miles Just enough to make the Airport My Fatboy has seen LA a dozen times, riding it out to work before my back went, now I am finishing my Avid with almost all mark IV modifications except the entire width I wouldn't gve up flying even if I had to take an instructor up every time, but now I finally don't have too. Just need to find an instructor who will train me in my Avid and pick up tailwheel the end is in sight.

I found out after putting the plane away, that although my instructor has close to 32,000 hours in GA airplanes, he had never flown an ercoupe before, the second instructor had flown this coupe back from california and spent some time teaching his son, my instructor couldn't believe that the x-wind technique in an Ercoupe is to land in a crab and let the plane straighten itself out. I will never own an ercoupe of my own but when you are a big guy and the next closest instructor is 250 miles away you go to the only place that is practical, I only have to drive 170 miles for this one. The sense of freedom when the wheels leave the ground fo the first time with no one else with you I am hooked. I am going to put my Twin Cam Harley up for sale and try and decide wich engine to repower with. I had put finishing my Avid on hold until I knew I would finish with a certificate, now I know.

    Finally Soloed
My instructor who will also be my DPE decided that I needed to get in some time with another instructor with the ercoupe because he didn't feel I was ready to solo yet, 2 landings with the owner with a 5 mph x-wind and he asked for my log book and told me to get up and do at least three takeoffs and landings, by my third take off he was gone in the jet on a charter all 3 were right on the numbers and if not perfect greasers were real close. Hopefully I can move faster on the rest of it so I can get back to completeing my Avid.

I remembe seeing that all metal wing, But I can't remember the website and I have never seen or heard of anyone Flying it. Theclosest thing I have seen is the AeroFox or whatever they are calling it this year, it has all aluminum ribs but is still rag covered, at about $67,000 it doesn't sound too bad for a SLSA but you could buy 2 or 3 used Avid/Kitfoxes used and flyable at the price

    Norman Aviation Mini Explorer
Picked up a copy of Leisure Aviation, it is their annual edition of all light planes, and I came across the Norman Aviation Mini Explorer. They are crediting it to Hubert deChevigny as a minature version of his explorer, I Know that that was a Dean Wilson design but am really interested in finding out if there are plans available for it. 2 seater, 2 couches and kitchen area weighing 286 kilos with a MTOW of 560 I did an internet search using the website they listed first naaah it couldn't be that easy the last information I can find about it is from Canadian Registeryand they had an Avid clone called the Nordic VI that was registered in 2007. The Canadians seem to get all of the cool airplanes. Has anyone heard of it or seen one in person? On a side note they finally have Brett McKinney as owner of Airdale with the Flyer given mention. I still wish someone would bring back the catalina, but I think those rights weresold elsewhere and then never persued.

You just buy it in a long length, safety wire the end loops. Somebody on here can tell for certain but I think it is 13 inches per wrap and 7 to 8 wraps.

I also believe that these were working loads with the 150% safety margin, I have seen testing that takes it much beyond the 4.4 G load. where as Zenith publishes ultimate load.

AK FLYER I know when yu built your new lift struts you went with a larger diameter and ticker tubing, fr your adjustable ed did you have it custom machined or were youu able to find an off-the-shelf part. I amlooking atdoing the same thing but I want to make sure I am doing it safely, I mde new spar carry throughs out of 1 and 1/4 inch tubing and amlooking atwhatI will need to do to strengthen the seat truss for larger landing gear but wthot access to a lathe the adjustable threaded joint looks to be a hod up, any ideas. I am trying to build this to haveabout a 600lb load limit.
