  1. I just trailered mine 1620 miles from North Dakota to Pennsylvania. I used a 30' snowmobile trailer but i had about 12' not used. My bird did not come with wing braces so i manufactured some out of 1" angle iron. With my set up, i had to raise the tail about 18" to get the wing just slightly less than level. I used a motorcycle stand to rest the tail wheel on and then strapped it down with a 2" ratchet strap. I bought vehicle tie down straps for the main wheels which worked great with the 26" bushwheels but if i had the 600x6's on, i would have had to do something diffrent. I built some control locks for the rudder and elevator, loaded it up (tail first of course) and hit the road for the 3day trip. It pulled beautifully at 65 mph the whole way and it sure got a lot of looks and comments and the fuel stops and the quazillion toll boths in Chicago. I wish i took some pics of it loaded so you could see how it all looked but hopefully this will help.

  2. Thanks akflyer. They sure soak up the bumps on the farm a lot better than the old tires and, damn do they look cool!

  3. I received my insurance without being an EAA member and I only had 12 hrs tailwheel time. I just had to get a checkout from a CFI in type and then had to prove that I had the skills to not kill myself by flying 10 hrs solo.

  4. Thanks to SuberAvid posting those pics, I had to bite the bullet and buy the 26" Airstreaks. I hope to get my bird looking that good someday soon!

  5. Check out www.realflying.com. I just ordered 4 tanks from Stace and he was very prompt in replying. It cost me $750 for 4 with shipping.

  6. Ordered the tanks from Stace. He is very pleasant to deal with. Looks like i have a little suckin up to the wife to do, before she sees the invoice.

  7. I dont know for sure but it is a least 1-1/2". I am planning on putting some 26" Airstreaks and probably the 8" Matco tailwheel. I want to redo the panel and put a recessed spot for my iPad (Got the idea from the iCub) so i can use foreflight for in flight weather. There is also the HAC i plan on installing.

  8. Thanks Ed but no there are not any nextended tubes on top of the caps. I will probably be installing poly tanks and will make sure to mod the caps with the vent tubes. I dont have to fold the wings too often since i am lucky enough to fly out from my house.

  9. It has speed wings with the wing tip extensions added during the build. The fuel caps appear to be the automotive style with the built in vents.

  10. I have already posted on some of the fourms and have also been a member for a few months now but this is my official hello of sorts. My name is Dave and I live just outside Williston, ND. I have been flying off and on since I was 15 but didnt finish my PPL until 2009. Since my childhood, I have always been fascinated with bush pilots so it seemed a perfect fit that my first bird should be a taildragger. I picked up my 1996 Avid C model with the MK IV mods this April and have since then, been slowly going through it, repairing and changing a few things. I hope to have it in the air before the snow flies this winter and if not, i guess i will be adding some skis to it then.

  11. My starboard tank leaks and has caused the fabric to come unglued. How difficult is it to pull the tank and reseal it, then fix the hole in the fabric?
