Fred your airplane is something we can relate to because it is in our price range and it is what most of us on this forum fly. Your videos are enjoyable to watch because it is the type of flying most of us do. Also you do not ramble on and do not ask everybody to subscribe to your channel. Keep the realistic videos coming Fred!

Doug, we are having our fish fry Tuesday evening again this year. Be looking forward to having you over.

Jim, we must be getting some smoke now, the sun is red and it is hazy out.
-
No smoke here yet. The wind just turned north tonight. Maybe we will get some then. Ya, she loves to fly. She's a great Turkey hunter also. She shot a Jake last spring and a big tom this spring.

Atle Dodge was smart. He took phone calls ,orders and actually shipped parts. These kit manufactures now never answer their phones and never get parts out in a timely matter. Nobody to blame but themselves.

Thoughts and prayers for you and your wife.

I never had any problems with my SkyRaider 1. It was a blast to fly.
-
I did both.

I have heard the problem with towing them nose first is it puts pressure into the inside of the wing from wind blowing into the open ends of the spars. Can separate the fabric from the ribs.
I spray foamed the open end of the wing spars.

I have talked to a guy that knows him.
He has had trouble with cooling the engine. I think he has only test flew it. The build is real nice though, just not a good engine choice.

On a sunny day it is easy to see the drifts because they cast a shadow. Cloudy days and full snow cover you have to be real careful. If there is no reference I like to carry power on landing and slowly descend until I touch down then cut power. I have also
thrown my coat out the door and came back around and try to touch down right next to my coat.

That's where I attach mine also. I don't think there is such a thing as an" approved attach point."

7000' runway, you can crow hop a good ways to verify control operation, even practice landings with that length. You can verify a lot by short hops and test the ground handling. If everything checks out, including you, then eventually you'll have to bite the bullet.
I would not crow hop it. Good way to break things.

That nice fluffy snow we had last night that I text flew my Bandit in after the ski installation is now blowing toward Iowa. 30 mph winds today. Blizzard conditions again. Temp is 1 degrees, wind still blowing like hell!

Just last night I was looking at a video I posted to utube years ago. My flying partner and I were flying the MK IV with a 582. He was learning how to fly the plane and we were on skis. Airspeed was just under 75, and rpm was at 5400 something. Airspeed was pretty accurate. That plane weighed 585 lbs empty. The two of us together had to be all of 400 lbs with the winter clothes and all plus we probably had 10 or 15 gallons of fuel. Total weight would have been around 1050 or more. I think between our posts Mark, (bandit) one can get an idea of the difference between the 503 and 582. Nothing against your plane Mark and I really hope it doesn't come across that way, but if the original poster wants a real life comparison, maybe he just got it. I get a bit silly at the end. Maybe it's the joy of realizing I'm still alive! JImChuk
Jim,
You are correct, the Bandit with a 503 might not be a good 2 place airplane. My Champ is a super airplane to give rides in. Plenty of room, great visibility. Climb out isn't anything to brag about, but it sure is fun to fly.

Just curious Mark, what is your speed at that 6000 rpm. I guess where I'm going is if someone was thinking, can I go with a 503 or should I opt for a 582. The other question may be, the plane I'm looking at has a 503. Will it be enough power. What is your empty weight? JImChuk
Ground speed is 69mph. Empty weight is around 480lbs. I run my engine pretty hard, below 5900 rpm its flies a little tail low. When I give rides I run a little below WOT. I like this combination, but I am easy to please. I just learned the characteristics of my airplane and learned to fly it. I don't worry about all the technical stuff. Just like Leni said, I have spent 1100 hrs in the seat so I am comfortable flying the Bandit with a 503 in it.

I agree with you Allen. Those flying cowboy dudes egos are as big as their pocket books. They aren't the normal common everyday pilots like 95% of the people on this forum are.

Has anyone flown or known someone first hand who has a MK4 with a Rotax 503DCDI installed? Please provide some info. Thanks
I have a MK4 Bandit with a 503 Rotax. It has been a great engine. I did build the Bandit lite and simple. Like all other Avids and Kitfoxes it is a good single place airplane. I am burning 5 gph in it. In cruise I am running it at 6000 rpms.

He is at Airventure every year.

I think it was 56 here today as well. Had a + in front of it though. Don't freeze Mark. Any ski flying this winter? JImChuk
I haven't put my skis on yet. It's been cold and windy. Now all of the open fields have huge drifts on them. If the weather breaks I will try to get them on though.

Congratulations! I have around 1200 hours on my Bandit and have had a blast!
