These Avids and Kitfoxes are just a blast to fly. Put my 7" tailwheel on today. Went out to try it, landed on a few hills and valleys, man what a beautiful evening. Check my U-Tube video of taking off circling and landing in about 45 seconds.I just tried it once tonight, with pushing it a little more I think I could shave a few seconds off that time.

Before I flew tonight I was looking at my Matco tailwheel. To me it looks like they would release easier if the rudder control arm was lowered 2" To 3". The way it is set up now most of our pressure is pulling the tailwheel arms upward. If the rudder control arms were lowered so the pull would be at less of an angle I would think it would release easier. Take a look at Joey's tailwheel picture and see what you guys think.

When is the tail ski going to be done? I could use one right now. You will learn with wheelskis the the brakes will freeze up. If you are taxing from snow to pavement you will have to get out and brake your wheels loose. If you are landing on pavement after taxing with wheel skis in the snow, be prepaired for a little wheel screech. Wheel skis do build up lots of snow and ice, but I guess there are always trade offs. It is still nice to taxi from your hanger to the snow.

Got my 7" Matco tailwheel today. Hope to get it on this weekend. Sure would like to try those 25 X 8 slicks. I wonder how much weight difference there is from the King Fox?

Matco sells 8" wheels and brakes. I had mine custom made from ATV wheels.

Gteat pictures, gotta love those ski planes. I was in Alaska two years ago in March. Did some ski flying with Don Lee in his Pacer. Flew in the Talkeetna range. Landed on Rainbow Lake where Don has a trappers cabin. It was awesome flying those 2 days. The same weather you had, clear and no wind. I got a small taste of what you guys get every day up there. Flying up that drainage makes a flatlanders ass pucker real tight. Sure would like to go back up and hang with you guys for a couple of days. Mark

Where did you fly today ?
I will tell you, last weekend was the best ski flying I have ever done around here. 6 hrs. of pure enjoyment. Rebuilt my heater fitting, with clear skies and mild temps, 25 degree's, it was a joy to fly in my Avid. There is enough snow around now that you can land just about any place you want. Because of the heavy wet snow that we got during Christmas it has not had a chance to blow. Did mostly local cruising. Looking for deer, turkeys, coyotes ect. Did fly the Mn. river valley for a while. Check out the video on Utube. "Avid Flyer Ski Plane on a river run".
Landed in a field to take on more fuel.

    Huge fine
I heard on the news a couple of days ago that two skiplane pilots got fined around $1000 bucks each for landing on Lake Calhoun in the Twin Cities area. What the hell is going on in this world ?

I started out with the Maule to. When rolling out after a landing with the ground speed where you need the tail wheel, I would ground loop. I thought maybe I lost my taildragger touch. Finally figured out that my tailwheel would release on rollout, which caused me to ground loop. Tried adjusting it,but had similar results. Called Matco and bought their 6" tail wheel. It made it a whole differant airplane. Haven't lost control since. I did switch to their pneumatic tire. No more fuselage noise when taxing over pavement cracks. The pneumatic tire did weather check fairly fast though, but the tube is still holding air. I do keep the tailwheel assemble wet with penetrating oil. During cold weather it does break loose a little harder if you don't do this. I would have liked to use the 8" wheel, but I think your angle of is a little better with the smaller wheel. I also installed the double leaf tail spring and cut it off as short as I could. Again to keep my tail as low to the ground as posible. The Matco will fit on the 1 1/4" tail spring.

No, I don't think so. My wife and I stay out there 9 days. We have camp set up pretty nice for that length of time. We could all meet at our camp though. Not as crowded out there on the west side of the farm.
