  1. My c model sn 958 weighs 585 pounds empty. I have dual wing tanks, custom tall wide spring gear, whelen strobes, electric pitch trim and 21 inch desser tires. Radio transponder, ifly GPS, and boiler guages too. Carpet and full lexan doors. Dual matco brake caliper set up. I wish it was a bit lighter but it is what it is. I'm about 30 pounds too heavy I should probably start there.

  2. I pay about 430 bucks a year through AOPA for liability ground and flight.  1M loss and 100000 per passenger.

  3. I looked up McMaster Carr and found some buna-n close tolerance sized balls.  Should be impervious to fuel as its buna n.  They only come in black.  Would they float?

    High-Strength Oil-Resistant Buna-N Rubber
    • Color: Black
    • Temperature Range: See below
    • Tensile Strength: 1,500 psi
    • Use indoors

Also known as nitrile, acrylonitrile butadiene, and NBR, this rubber has a good balance of oil and solvent resistance when compared to other rubbers, but is not as weather resistant.

  4. I agree with EdMO.  I am in the process of recovering part of my left wing where I added a wing tank.  The floor of my shop is a disaster! My workbenches are piled up!  Somehow I still find everything im looking for!!!

  5. It may be a little bit early, but I can't help it!  Who is planning on going to Osh again this year?  I left Wednesday last year and thus missed the get together but am planning on the whole week this time.

  6. Those of you with cable operated enrichers, what cable systems are you using to control them?  I have the enrichers that will accept a swege but I dont want spaghetti in terms of operating them.

  7. I have my left wing off right now adding a 13 gallon tank.  I'll make you a template tomorrow and post it.

  8. I flew the Avid with the new elevator for the first time today!  What a difference.  I only flew for about half an hour, but the results were dramatic to say the least.  I have plenty of trim authority for cruise and climb and descent.  I am going to have to get used to not having to haul back on the stick all the time especially on final!  On a bright note I did all the flying without my 15 pound ballast weight on the towbar attach, so that thing has a new home gathering dust on the shelf in my hangar.  I did a few stalls power off and on and noticed that the stalls are sharper and more crisp, which with more pitch authority was expected.  The tail comes alive almost as soon as power is applied on the takeoff roll.  I'll do some more flying later today and explore it a bit more.  But so far I have nothing bad to say about this mod.

  9. I did.  My set up is a mirror of yours.  Although I believe Lowell's fabric skills are a touch better than mine.  This was the first time I did any covering, I did have a few imperfections and wrinkles in the tapes.

  10. I followed Joey's lead on this one and over the past month I modified my elevator to MKiv specs.  I haven't flown with the new elevator yet because the birds have been walking the past few days but as soon as the weather breaks I'll take it for a spin!  It will be nice to not run out of elevator at slower speeds and also be able to trim off the stick forces.  I have a 15 lb weight hanging from one of my tow bar attach points to help with the stick force, hopefully this mod will allow me to remove it.  We'll see!
