  1. EDMO added a post in a topic Seatbelts?

TJay,  Looks like I struck out on finding anything to post.  Kitfox 1 manual says it is on page CF-23 (Cover & Finish), and the last page I have is CF-20.  I know I have read that, and my KF2 had those pads on the heads of the lower bolts which are right against the outside fabric.  From what I did see, the KF1 brackets may take a 1/4" bolt.  Maybe my KF2 bolts were that size too?

TJay,  I guess you have the instructions to glue a 2" diameter piece of leather or similar material to the head of the bolt that holds the outside lower part of the seatbelt to keep the bolt from rubbing on the fabric.  Mine were just held loosely by a (5/16?) bolt & washers that was too long to tighten down snuggly with a castle nut.   EDMO

Here is one copy of the chart Akflyer posted.  I think the thread may be "Bush gear failures"?   I cant find "325" on there, so maybe he gave me a number to order it from another chart?   EDMO
For those of you that have been having issues opening it up ad a PDF here are a few more options for you.

Leni had a Snomobile spring substitute that gives less stiffness and more travel before the spring coils bottom out on each other.   The earlier post made about the springs you have described this problem which can bend your longerons.   I think the Snogo springs are 325 lbs / inch compression.  I bought one before he said that I might be better off with a 190 or 220 for my nosegear.  Not trying to sell it to you.
I think they are Honda, and I copied the chart he posted.  If you cant get info from him, then TJay or others may have bought them, or I can look at my unopened package and maybe get the numbers and address for you.   I don't know where the original posts are about this, or where the chart is.  Others know more than I do about this.  Maybe you can search for the posts?  I've got Grove gear, so just reading about these.  I am unfamiliar with the Fitt gears, so just wanted you to know there may be better options for them.  EDMO

  6. EDMO added a post in a topic VHF Antenna

I've had some radios - not totally aircraft, but near the same frequencies - that received good, but unless the Standing Wave Ratio was matched between the transmitter and antennae the transmissions were not as good.  We used an SWR meter to get a reading as low as possible for better transmitting.  Sometimes had to cut coax to different lengths to do that.   This made more difference with the lower powered radios than those with more transmitting power.  I've been away from radio studies for too many years now, so you need to talk to a technician if you want to know more about that.   EDMO

Leni,  Sorry for the wait on posting a picture of my modified Riblett ribs - I think I had posted this earlier somewhere - Just found out that I had not finished this thread.  I saw that others were reading it.   I used 9460 for the additions and leading edge extensions instead of buying more T88.  Here is a photo.   EDMO

John,  I also was around Mike's shop at Birchwood many years ago.  I am sure you got a lot of 2-smoke knowledge from him.  My interest was in the planes, not the engines at that time.  He worked on my 532.  I am still a 4-stroker.   Welcome,  EDMO

"OK I stand corrected!!!! I forgot to put my head in the file drawer and slam it a few times before I typed my message..... basically the pink certificate it tired to the operation limitions for the airplane.... EDMO is correct  anyone can work on it....... still if you are an A&P and doing the inspectiopn for someone else, be CAREFUL.... there are lots of hidden traps. As long as the owner/maintainer tells you everything he has done, you have a better chance of not falling into a trap.
We are fortunate that the FAA does not regulate experimental aircraft so much.....
    Mark Smith"
Mark,  You are totally correct on this - "A&P Beware!"  Most of you are not A&P certificated, but if you are, then you are completely responsible when you sign the condition inspection - There is a huge liability there!   I have a plane that crashed on the way home after an A&P CD was done because the oil tank was empty.   One guy with an Experimental plane that I was not familiar with asked me to do the CD on his plane so he could sell it after I had heard some bad rumors about it - I asked $1000 for that, so he found someone else.  I would have had to have all current FAA books and maybe buy the plans for it and get all ADs and Service bulletins and letters for a start, in addition to traveling 200 miles roundtrip, and I probably would have failed it anyway for something he didn't fix, or maybe missed something on it.   There was too much liability there for me.    EDMO

I think Some of them are responsible, aircraft-minded, honest workers just doing their job.   Some of them are Gov-ment Employees just drawing a paycheck while doing little of nothing.  And, Some of them are idiots who never should be allowed on an airport!   Just the normal bunch of characters we have on earth.  ;<)  EDMO

I have to partly disagree with you - "Anyone" can work / do maintenance on an Experimental AB Airplane.  No A&P needed or no signoff needed.  There is no requirement to enter anything in logbook except condition inspections.
FAR Part 43, except for appendix D, does not apply to Experimental Airplanes.
An ELT is not required for "local flights" (of less than 50 miles from departure place?) even in a 2 or more place plane.
My favorite IA statement is: "If it ain't logged, it didn't happen"!
With the new OPLIMs even "Major Modifications" can be done with only a logbook entry by the owner and 5 hours back in Phase 1, with no inspection required.
Yes,  unless you have the repairman certificate, an A&P has to do the annual condition inspections, except for the first one before the airworthiness certificate is issued, and this is done by the builder and logged in logbook.   EDMO

I believe someone said to use safety wire as a cutter if you ever want to cut them out of the spars?   Sounds like lots of sawing?   I used a long box-knife blade.   EDMO

Wonder how many $$$ NA$A spent to "Toot their own horn" with that bragging?   Sounds just like TV Commercials we watch every day - "My product is the best, and cures all ills"!   NA$A had to BS to get our money!   Probably could have been done cheaper without them!   EDMO

"If you want to talk about wasted money, money spent on supporting those in our society that have no desire to support themselves would fund WAY more than has ever been spent on space.  I have no issue supporting those without the ability to support themselves (disabled, etc), but too much money goes to those that just don't want to."

Hope you include, "The best politicians that money can buy" in that.   Maybe we should have bought Siberia instead of Alaska - then we would have a place to send the parasites and useless!  ;<)  EDMO

And,  It is probable that we could have made even more advances in Medicine and other fields if we hadn't wasted so much money on space trips....
80 years between wars?  Well, maybe that long since we dropped an A-bomb, but tell that to the families of 33,000 killed in Korea and 58,000 killed in Nam, and how many now killed in Iraq, Afgan wars?  I don't think we have ever NOT been at war since Space exploration began in the 1950's!
Just saw that there is a water-shortage & drought in Cape Town, South Africa - How many Rocket $s would it take to solve that problem?   How about rebuilding some islands with Rocket $s?   How much pollution does a Zillion gallons of rocket fuel make in the air we breathe?   Does it cause the ice to melt and seas to rise?
I will stop - wish I could just hook up the old mules to the wagon and mosey down a dirt road - With no sounds of Rockets and Nukes overhead!  ;<)   EDMO

Why in hell waste all this money on Mars?  We cant even manage to feed the ones on Earth!   Money would be better spent on trying to find cures for failures here.  All Space programs have done nothing but spend our money to give the world ICBMs and NUKES!   Do we really need another planet to go to when we destroy this one?   EDMO

Big difference between CofL of 0.7 and 4.0 which I believe I have seen for some wings.  According to some writers, NACA really produced some "Dud" airfoils - Maybe not the one you mentioned?   Dean designed a very-light plane - easily built by a novice builder - which could get off of the ground quickly with the modified Eppler undercambered airfoil and he wasn't designing for speed.  Wittman designed for speed with the added cost of higher speed landings and takeoffs.  Everything is a compromise!   EDMO

I used one of wife's Ziplock freezer bags on one plane - Donno if they will last as long as heavier plastic - Didn't keep plane that long.  I have seen some clear plastic make-up pouches with a zipper at top that daughter used - heavier than Ziplocks - Dollar store / Walmart?  Ask your wife!   EDMO
