Probably because of all the bragging about landing on a beluga or taking off of a sandbar while chasing moose in high brush, and other good tales that you "bushpilots" tell?

P.S. I worked for Dominion Propeller in Anchorage - you wouldnt believe how many Supercub props I saw with bullet holes going thru the BACK of the prop!!!!

Really nice car and great story Doug. I'm too old to even think about some of my youthful events - might have a heart-attack just remembering them!!! I had a green / white 56 wagon like that, and my uncle had a tourquois / white 57. I sold mine cheap and wanted a Nomad, but the army got me first and I drove a jeep and 3/4 ton Dodge, a Birddog and a Beaver all over Germany. Wanted to drive a tank, but they must have thought I might break it!

  4. EDMO added a post in a topic Size of trailer to move a Kitfox?

When we move planes, we let some air out of the tires, then ratchet-strap them tightly, then add air to make them super-tight. Otherwise, they will eventually shake loose.

  5. EDMO added a post in a topic Size of trailer to move a Kitfox?

If your trailer is an open, flatbed, it should work - although with wings folded, the Kitfox is about 21 feet long, with the long wings, and about 19 feet with the short wings. A 8 x 20 would be better tho.
They seldom fit in an 8 ft wide closed trailer, unless you take the wings off - if you do that, be sure to pad them a lot, as those roads are not the smoothest, IMO. Best way to move it is to fly it back.

P.S. If you use an open trailer, be sure to take a tarp and plenty of tie-downs for it. You will surely drive thru rain, and probably snow, and with the wings folded, you have to cover the open area where the turtledeck was removed.

Even easier, is to buy some 1 x 1 thin aluminum angle, cut into 8 inch pieces, and trim one leg to suit. Then glue and rivet.

I failed to notice in your photo if you had an overhanging lip over the IP. Bengalis (sp?) in his books recommended an overhanging glareshield over the instruments, and as a safety factor, to edge it with a split garden hose. I chose to use split PVC conduit instead.
Congratulations on your build, and GOOD FLYING.

No suggestion on insurance, but one suggestion on IP: Nice engine turning on IP - LOOKS GOOD, BUT, You may hate it later on when the sun glares on it. Better to paint it or cover with leather or wood, IMHO. Good looking paint job on plane. What system did you use?

Would think that a complete wrap would be stronger and more weatherproof.

  12. EDMO added a post in a topic Best way to measure for VG placement?

Are the flapperons included by Avid/KF in the wing square footage?
Just nosey - could figure this out, but lazy. Nothing to do with VG statements.
I know little to nothing about placing VGs, but wonder if the rib between the VGs could negate the vortex you want to form?

Yeh, and those senile old geezers flying a Cherokee or Bannanna at 200 IAS with grandkids on board?
I just found out that my 6 year chauffers license is only good for 3 years after age 70!
I do think that the 3rd so often is BS - should be 5 or 10 years, and none for a 2 place.
I got deferred by a SOB after flying 30 years for a heart murmer I had since I was 7.
Next Doc passed me with no problem: (After big $$$ spent on unneeded medical tests).

    Travis,
After flapping my yap, and voicing concerns about any binding bolt or control, I finally looked at your photo.
This does not look like a "binding" situation, rather, it is an interference like you first stated, and maybe not as dangerous.
Rather than bend things, although that is propably feasible, can you adjust your P/P to make things right, and let the tubes be a travel stop?
Other options may be there too - but have to be thought about first.
    Best wishes on your fix.

P.S. After thinking some: Conclusion is that you dont need that 2 degrees as much with a nose dragger, so, if no binding, I would just let it go, as is.

I dont mean to start a "firestorm", but disagree with doing away with the 3rd Med for a 4 place plane.
I would be OK with a 2 place, and under 200 mph.
To put "back seat captives" at risk, possibly children, is asking too much.
That is just my opinion. can that be put in the comments?

The early KFs had the fork end on the elevator rod - Use a clevis bolt or grind a bolt head, or whatever it takes to eliminate any binding. This is a shear bolt setup, so the head matters little, except to keep it from falling out. I would think that a clevis bolt would solve your problem.
IMO: A locknut is plenty good since there is little, if any, rotation involved.
A washer and a cotter pin in the end of a clevis pin would be safe for this location, if clearence demands it.
Good Luck, and really hoping you find a good fix for this.

I had a friend in South Africa who was putting one in his Kitfox.
However, have lost touch with him and don't know any specifics.
    Sorry, not much help.

I will join in on the "told-you-so" chorus.
This is the time to listen to the advice so wisely given.
Don't ignore the WARNINGS, and have a big "OH SHIT" later on when you learn your mistake.

Thanks for the correction - My heart has not slowed down tho - My Magnum manual index referred me to Chapter 5, step F........Would you believe it - the Turkeys did not put that page in my book - mine ends with step E!!!!!!!!!!!
you probably will never use that extra 2 degrees, but the bolt binding is really a concern to me - There should definately be some safety concerns there - hope you find a fix for it.
Can you bend something to get it to clear?

HOLY MOLY! Got to go check my magnum manual, although yours is a different model.
I have never heard of only a 7 degree down elevator - most all planes that I have delt with have about 17 to 20 down and as much as 40 up elevator. Are you sure about that figure? Could it be a misprint?
I'm sure that an Avid builder can answer your question, but it sounded so far off from what I have seen, I had to ask.

Now, I reread your post, and you said nose down - I was talking about trailing edge down. Are we on different parts???

I have already added two 12 volt ducted fans to the struts, but may have to add another alternator to fire them off.
JATO is nice too, for sandbar TO's. (please note: Neither of these are "authorized mods"!!!!)
Will the FAA consider mine a "multi-engine", or just "lift augmentation"
