Guess you could scale the Cub ribs down to match the Coyote spar attachments, or move the attachments farther apart to take larger wing chords?  Might be as simple and easy - just putting in spar holes to match Coyote to use larger chord Cub ribs?     I sure like thinking "Outside the box!"  Ha!  I think my extended  4"leading edge modified Kitfox 4 type wings with 15" flaps and ailerons are getting closer to Cub chords.  EDMO

Allan Koebel of High Ridge, Missouri.   I think he was 81 last month, and private pilot MEL, mostly antique planes, for 65 years.   No telling how many different planes he had rebuilt and flown, or how many accident / incident free hours he has flown.  He never got a mechanic ticket, but he is a better pilot and mechanic than I am.  He taught me in several types of planes as PIC until I was insurable in them.   He was in Berlin with me in 1961 when the wall was closed, and also in Wintersheild military exercises in Germany which was also shown in some films or movie.   I didn't meet him until 1965 when he was day shift at Chrysler and I worked evenings - He got my attention when he was trying to learn how to fly an AT-6 before he went to Florida to buy one from the Government - That's another interesting story!  After he bought it, I could hear him doing touch & goes in the evenings in his loud AT-6 at the airport across the road from Chrysler plant.  He has been a constant friend ever since.  EDMO

SOMEONE HAD A VERY GOOD DAY!
My old flying buddy got his Wright Brothers Master Pilots Award last weekend.  So sorry that I was not able to go see him get it.
Just thought about how he got to his checkride for Private License by riding a bicycle to the airport because he wasn't 16 to get a driver's license for 2 more weeks.  The Wright Brothers were bicycle builders too!  Ironic!   ;<)  EDMO

  7. EDMO added a post in a topic MATERIAL BUILDING FLAPS AND AILERONS?

Maybe only difference is that mine were cut really fast with a computer - Sooo Precision!  All I did was draw a pattern and they copied it to computer.  You can do it manually tho.  Good Show!  I forget the exact cost, but think it was $2 each with my material (same as wing ribs) for 40+ ribs - cost was mostly programming for 2 different size pivot tube holes precisely sized and aligned for flaps & ailerons.  Are you still going with Kitfox 4 rib pattern?   I still have some.  Guess larger flaperons could also be made using ribs too and maybe covering with Wood / FG / Fabric / Metal?
    False ribs too.   EDMO

Nice bird.  Welcome to the small nosedragger minority group on here.  I have an Avid aftermarket spring-loaded nosegear attachment for sale that you might want to consider.   Cost $1000 new - No longer made - asking $250 plus shipping.  EDMO

Final update - Got wood ribs cut on waterjet machine - turned out real precision fit on pivot and leading edge tubes - bought Avid wing leading edge Fiberglass 24' x 15" wide for covering flaps - slots have to be marked and cut after hinges are assembled to wing before gluing fiberglass to ribs.  Guess if I don't get more, the ailerons will get covered with fabric/1mm plywood.  EDMO

  14. EDMO added a post in a topic Luga / Kool / "NR" Propellers

As a minority (4-stroker) I am following your props critique with interest - We all learn from each other - Not mentioned is that the 3 blade had a better vibration pattern for the 4-banger 4 strokes too, although some are flown with 2-blades.  Also not mentioned, As Daryl at Warp Drive told me, " You may get same TO and Better Cruise from a 68" 3-blade with more pitch than a longer 72" prop with less pitch."  And, I think that the tapered tips may require more pitch for static than the squared tips?
I also agree wirh akflyer - What works on a slicker Kitfox 4, or later Kitfox wings may not work as well with the undercambered wings on the other models.  Just 2 more cents worth.  EDMO

yeh, they are impressive,  but not everyone likes Moose, except to eat!  Just wait until some big bull walks under a wing and raised his head with those big antlers going thru the covering, or decides to step on the fuselage or tail to get to the other side!  Bet you have seen more of that damage than I have?   I looked out one morning and a moose was eating with its tail backed up against my neighbor's front door - If he had started out he would have had two hooves in his face!  I called him to warn him to go out the garage door to his truck.  Another got tangled up and tore all the Christmas lights off of a neighbor's green tree in the yard.   One stomped a man to death at the college that same year.
Merry Christmas Randy and everyone.  Would you like to see a photo of my yard cats?  Ha!
Oh, I had 6 Whitetail does and a buck in the back yard a week ago, and a big coyote the week before that - 3 skunks too!  "Wild Missouri"!  ;<)   We had reports of black bear and Mountain lion near here this year too, but nothing like Alaska.   EDMO

Totally agree - You need to call Darrol at Warp and get a trade - a 3-blade 68" is probably the best WD for that engine, from what I have heard.  EDMO

Just adding to what akflyer said above:  Some members have replaced the (whatever Avid supplied?) friction washer with leather, and others have made detent stop mechanism to give them positive stops at different degrees of flaperon settings.  I don't know where the posts are.  EDMO

Covering is only about 10% of building, and probably the most satisfying part of the job - Getting paint on puts the smile on your face.   An 8" tear is not even as bad as a parking lot scratch on your car.  Joey thought you were getting a good deal on the plane?   EDMO

Seems a shame to waste all the time and money you spent on dead-stick landings, picking a field, etc.  I don't know what the vertical speed would be, but guess all the vertical landing pressure would be on your spine, maybe a lot harder than a helicopter autorotation, and maybe no control over where the landing would be.  The only use I see for them is a mid-air collision or breakup, and that landing don't last long!  I would rather try to glide in, wiping out whatever in a forward motion, like one of my instructors who did the textbook thing finding two trees on a ridge he couldn't clear and taking both wings off of a 172 and walked away.   My 2c worth.  EDMO

I finally, after finding many answers like, "You cant do that", came across a place that gave an answer, which may or may not, be true:
"To convert Lumens to Candlepower, divide the Lumens by 4 pi, or 12.57 to get the candlepower equivalent."  To convert Candlepower to Lumens, multiply the Candlepower by 12.57.
Now to find how to convert "Watts ratings", (not Watts power used), to Lumens may be a different  chase?  But here goes:  It is about the same formula, making about a 750 Lumens bulb equal to a 60 watt rating bulb, depending on the efficiency of the bulb, which could be from 12.57 to 17.  Again,   Have fun finding the equivalent of your 3 million Candlepower spotlight in Lumens while wondering if it is False Advertising!
I guess the only way to tell if something works is to try it.   EDMO
