    Airventure
Who's going?  (I'll be there all week!)

Where and when do you want to meet??

Brett from Airdale is doing his lunch thing on Wednesday at the Seaplane Base.  Shall it be there or somewhere else?

With all the grief everyone seems to have with their fiberglass fuel tanks, I wonder if it is possible to construct a "rubber" bladder as a tank liner, similar to the ones used in many of the larger certified planes.

I am definitely not a fan of "sloshing" a tank to try and cover-up the problem and tank replacement seems to be a huge undertaking.  The rigid plastic tank liners require you to cut the top (at least) off your tank with arguable structural effects.

Why not just cut a 6" square hole in the top for access to install a bladder and install an access panel over the opening?  Seems like a valid option to me.

So far Fastenal is kicking everyone.  I can get what I need, per piece cheaper than anyone else who has quoted me.

I can afford to buy several of the pieces (nuts bolts and washers) in "box quantity" of 100 and still only have a couple of bucks more than per piece prices.  AN cotter pins come in boxes of 1000 for only $5-7 each.

(I will send the pricing spreadsheet I've made to anyone who asks for it.)

    I'm Legal!!
As of Friday, noon (7-3), I am now a legal tail wheel endorsed pilot!  Wheeee!  I am now officially legal to learn how to really fly a tailwheel plane.

Still lots of work to do on my 'Fox before I fly it, but I have some folks here local that I can fly with to prep me for my plane...

Wish me luck.  I'll probably need it...

Well, our resident fabric expert and Champ restorer extraordinaire has passed judgment on my fabric:

After much poking, twisting and close inspection he said that with a few repairs, I should "... fly the hell out of it until I get sick of it looking so ugly, then recover it.  ..."

I might be flying it yet this summer....

I'm keeping an eye open for a small lathe, too.  I should be able to stay out of trouble with this stuff, don-cha think?

Look closely in picture named Shop(1) and you will see my milling machine still sitting on my trailer.  That's gotta get hooked up yet, too...

I think the wing fabric would be okay.  There is some pulling away on the rib bottoms that I think can be re-glued.  The reason for the recover would be to inspect the ribs for possible water damage and other internal unknowns.  The plane was stored outside since '99.

The fuselage needs recovering to make it look right.  For some unknown reason the builder did not put the wood side stringers on it...  ?  The mounts for the stringers poke through (reinforced) holes in the fuselage side fabric.  Just some oddities like this.

It is covered in PolyFiber, so I think the fabric itself is okay (the finish is fugly).  I just have questions (long term) about what's underneath.

Working on shopping for hardware now.  Need the updated rudder peddles, too.

    Impatient...
Okay.  I'm going a little nuts now.

I have a rather ugly KF-IV in my garage with only one wing on it.  The other wing and h-stab are still off for the original transport home in a u-haul.  At the moment I can do nothing but sit in it and make airplane noises.

I need to finish my workshop before I can start the "restoration" on it.  I'm about going nuts with impatients.  The shop will take another week yet...

New fuel lines, hardware for the wings and tail, some fabric repairs and lots of other small stuff needs to be done before I can fly it.

Frankly, it needs to be recovered.  I'm hoping I can put this off for a little while so that I can fly it some and get used to it, first.  I'm waiting on the fabric expert from my EAA chapter to look at it.  I've gotten conflicting opinions from several people, so I want an expert to see it before I fly it or tear off fabric.

    Sorry, needed to vent...

We're probably getting about the same as you, Skysailor.  Just finishing a week of high 80s and 90s with humidity to match.  Rain this weekend then more seasonable next week, 70s and 80s.

See, Leni, you've got this all wrong.

Everyone here is supposed to be writing (with movies and photos) all their adventures and building schemes so I have something to inspire me while I'm working on my shop, so that I can then work on my plane when the shop is done!

Either that or come down here and take me flying.

Yup, she's home, in my garage.  Actually, it's been there for a couple of weeks now, just waiting on paperwork to clear before I spoke up too much about it.

The Mrs & I hauled it home in a UHaul truck over Memorial Weekend.

The project will really begin after the 4th, I hope.  I have some other Irons in the fire that need to be finished first, then I'll take lots of photos and document everything on my website as I go (I think).

Everything is now final, so I can officially announce that:

I have bought a "flying" model Classic VI-1200.  It's got a 912UL 80hp, Grove gear, panel mounted GPS and lots of bugs to fix before I fly it again.

Wish me luck.  (I may need it...)

    AN Hardware
If a person were to need a bunch of AN hardware (bolts, nuts, washers, pins, etc.), who would your favorite supplier be and why?

Obviously AC Spruce is the 800# gorilla in the room for this, but who else would you use?  Fastenal or other fastener supply type of place?  Somebody else?

    Thanks.
