Here's a (bad) shot of my plane with my new "poorman's bush tires" on it. They are AeroClassic 21 x 8.00 x 6. They are 4-ply so they are light (11#) with tube. I don't hav a lot of time on them, yet, but, so far I love them.

Airdale is a distributor for these and they can be had for a little more than $100 each.

I've never seen a clevis bolt like that before. BUT, that groove is very uniform and even...

Here is some clevis bolt information: Link

    This is an AN "clevis"bolt

This is a shoulder bolt. Kinda looks like your example...

They are "local" for me (4 hour drive) and I do all of my Rotax business with them. They are very knowledgeable and friendly to deal with. I deal with Lockwood if I need something that LEAF doesn't have in stock. They are my strong #2 choice.

I would highly recommend either of them over CPS since the buyout...

It looks like he has some flaps down during your formation work, but clean while landing, or is he taking off in the other photo?

C'mon, your plane isn't that slow...

I plan on using the wood ones from Airdale on my Kitfox rebuild (it currently has none).

A local friend and fellow Kitfoxer lightened his by drilling 2" diameter holes, evenly spaced down the length, prior to covering with fabric. Saving the wood chips from this operation, he weighed them and came up with nearly 6 pounds.

    I may follow suite.

Everyone should have one of these in their airplane. Airplanes are horribly dangerous.

For sale: 1200# BRS Parachute taken out of my Kitfox IV - Make me and offer, plus shipping.

    The Cali trip
I am spending the Thanksgiving holiday with my sister in California. So C5engineer (Joey) and I managed to arrange another little meet and greet.

Thanks for the Avid ride, Joey! That was a load of fun!

    Here's some photographic evidence...

    Bump.

    Still looking and thinking.

Remember, I don't live in Alaska. I don't ride for 1000s of miles and never see a trail. All we ride here is trails and lakes. Deep snow (in the UP of Michigan or Superior snow belt) is 4-5' deep, otherwise groomed (or not) trails.

I really want a 4-stroke. I've been seeing more of the '05 and later RX1 Yamahas out there getting more reasonable in price. What does anyone know about these sleds? Good, bad, ugly???

    Keep it light!!

Extra ribs and junk is just more performance robbing weight. 4130 tubing in also known as "Chromolly" (spelling?) tubing.

Brett is 30 minutes north of me, in northern Wisconsin. So, no help there...

Seriously, though, call him he will surely help you with any tech questions on doing the stretch. Especially if you have some fab and welding experience.

The fuselage is all made of 4130 tubing. Any steel supplier should be able to source this for you.Pony up for the Matco or Grove aircraft wheels and brakes. You will never regret it. The Kitfox style AVT wheels with the cobbed brakes suck.Don't get caught with the stop signs...

Robert - Where are you located? Brett at Airdale has the jigs to do the 15" extension that you are talking about. Much easier than trying to jig it yourself.

    New Tires
Here's a couple of (crummy cellphone) shots of my plane with the new tires sourced from Airdale. They are the same diameter as the old ATV tires I used to run (21") but are for 6" aircraft wheels.

Weather is crap here so I haven't been able to try them yet...

A little birdie has informed me that Airdale may be soon offering a new wing airfoil option, with up to a 32' span. One with very good STOL and reasonable speed characteristics.

Our chapter (EAA UL75) maintains a camping area in a campground just across the street from the ultralight Red Barn. Several of us (myself included) usually camp there for the entire week.

Doug is in that neighborhood, on the grounds camping (usually) and another member here, Bandit, stays in the same campground.

Ah, yes. Smilin' Douggy is our keeper of copious amounts of trivia on Avids and Kitfoxes.

I doubt that McKinney (current owner of Avid/Airdale) or McBean (current owner of Kitfox) have as much information on hand as Doug does...
