  1. Very nice bird and with Steves parts and knowledge it should really help speed up your build,Hopefully get some landing gear like yours some day:)

  2. Hi Jody ,welcome aboard,I finally receive my egts and we are also running lean, we were going to try going up 0ne or 2 sizes in main jet once we see what we have in there, probably the factory ones.Setting the prop to 8 degress pitch we were able to reach 9000 rpm, Post up some pics of your highlander project always:BC:

  3. Hi Ed, I wish I had a better memory but I think 1 degree = alot more than 100 rpm on my EA-81 with this same warp drive prop. I had it set at 11 degrees for the soob so im thinking the RX1 with more horsepower would be at least equal to that. If I was to adjust the prop pitch to get the 8500 rpm on the rx1 I would be around the 4 degrees pitch in the prop if each degree = 100rpm ,

Well I got a fast reply back from G.T. Mills and he is saying he usually runs his 3 blade props around 6 or 7 degress on these yamahas so I guess my logic is out the window  and will take a bunch more pitch out :BC:

  4.  I took out one degree of pitch in the warp drive prop which brought it down to 10 degrees , it only gained about a 100 rpm on the RX1,WOT was 7900 rpm at the 10 degrees and 7800 rpm at 11 degress, so we are back thinking it maybe a  carburator problem.I ordered a sync pro carburator tuner  and also maybe  a jetting issue, we are at 3000 ft asl, The experimenting continues .

  5.  Looks good, one thing to remember is that you leave as much room as possible for getting the engine out after the motor mount is built.

  6. I will have to look and see how much room I have under the engine ,alot cleaner than mine  hanging down an if it keeps it cool in AZ I should have no problem up here, I also used the Rx1 oil tank  for the same reasons

  7. Thanks Teal, I'll try playing with the pitch this weekend and  get another 1000 rpm and see if that changes the throttle issue

  8.    It is a kitfox 5 cowl, the same cowl that I used for the subaru, its a snug fit but it works. Teal was very helpful with me as well. As for prop I am using a 72" 3 blade warp drive , it seems to be working fine,I haven't started playing with the pitch yet it was still the same pitch from the soob engine, for some reason the last bit of throttle doesnt seem to do anything so were thinkinjg we need  to service the carbs,  so want to do that first,in the mean time it seems to fly fine at 7500 max rpm

  9.  Forgot to mention there was 2 of us in the plane , im not to sure what it is with me in there , too busy watching the ground lol

  10. I managed to get a hour flight in this morning in the avid with the Rx1 engine,It ran nice and smooth and climbed at 800 ft/min at 7500 rpm without trying, I could easily cruise 6500 rpm @80-85 mph and stall without and flaps was around 50mph , was awhile coming but it seems worth it :BC:

  11. I have

    2 doors half and half

1 elevator with Ray Allen trim servo

    1 one piece turtle deck

    1 full cowling for a 582

1 very nice instrument panel with instruments

    1 tail wheel

    2 wheels with tundra tires

    2 brake discs and callipers

    2 control sticks

    Both sets of rudder peddles

    Brake peddles with cylinders

Plus more so everything apart from the fuselage and the parts Simon got from me to put on yours.

    Thanks

    Richard

Hi Richard ,do you know what model the elevator was off of,just wonder the size and how much are you asking for |Ray |Allen trim servo

  12. Teal or anyone ,on the RX1 with wide open throttle and with the plane tied down im getting 8000 rpm with a 72 inch 3 blade warp drive,is this in the ball park of having the right pitch? Just looking for a starting reference for the first flight

    Getting close to flying!   Congrats!!

Sounds like the same prop I was planning.  I forget, are you using a clutch?

And I'm sure you figured for it, but I did run into a limp mode (6000 rpm max) on my RX1 on the snow when the overheat light came on.  I think Greg Mills uses a certain resistor in place of the temp sender to trick the ecu into believing a normal temp value.  But my sled seemed to run fine by simply unplugging the temp wire at the sender.  With it unplugged I can't see how you would encounter a limp... right?

    Keep us posted Willis!

And FYI for anyone... the RX1 snowmobile hits 10,200 rpm (142 HP) every full throttle application.  And Teals reccomendation for 8500 would result in a PTO output shaft rpm of about 7200 (with the 1.19 engine internal reduction) @ approx 127 HP.  Point being that 8500 sounds like a lot... but it really is a pretty big derate.

It is getting close ,got to finish off the new wing struts and redo the weight and balance, I don't have a clutch on my engine,it seems to start fine but not sure when its -20 how it will do.My brother is the mechanic so im not sure how he bypassed the limp mode ,I will ask him. I do know since we are using the yamaha tach display, we had to put in a couple of small lamps with the right resistence to take the place of the fuel sender and handle bar warmer ,otherwise we would get an engine warning light flashing on the display

  14. My brother built the throttle mechanism from scratch,I will get you the measurements soon as it warms up a bit and im over at the plane, the cabin throttle cable had roughly 3 times the travel length as the rx1 cable,we also put a shroud over the exhuast header and ducted into the cabin and it diffenently cranks out the heat:BC:

  15. Thought I would post a picture of the throttle setup we came up with to use the RX1 throttle cable with the existing throttle cable I had in the plane ,it works well.Got a few more weeks before its flying but its running awesome

  16. My son showed me how to put it on you tube so here is the first run up of the RX1, wiring and hoses are just hanging till we seen if it ran

  17. We got the Rx1 running and its sounding pretty nice, the one problem  I got is the handle bar warmer circut has no off switch its either on low or high, thought it would be cool having a heated grip on the stick till summer came lol, guess we will just install a resistor. I got a small video but guess its to larger to upload here and cant figure out you tube yet but ill keep trying. By the way does anyone know the drying time in between coats of poly spray, hard to find any info on it, the wing extensions are done and ready for spraying

  18. Looks good, if the shipping wasn't s crazy I would be interest in buying some off you,I ordered up a 3/4 inch round router bit but dont have a shaper,I'll be closer to taking 5 days lol

  19. Thanks Joey ,I should of mention that in my case the shaft is at the top so it takes the 6.7 oz its takes quite a bit less if its on the bottom, I dont have the rotax book handy to know the exact amount.
