  1. marshawk added a post in a topic Throttle Body Injection on 2 Bangers!

Hi Dimi, I have a Rotec TBI on my soob and it runs great ,really runs smooth and starts instantly, its not a two stroke  but not sure what the difference would be. I also only have about 20 hours running it,we have it set up that it will idle at full rich as well as wide open throttle and of course you can lean it out for cruise, not much to go wrong on them except maybe dirty fuel clogging the ports.

It could be Ed, there was no pieces in the redrive  but it must of been from the original rebuild ,it did look like it could be pieces from a tap

Well after sending the block out for inspection ,they couldnt fined no reason for the aluminum pieces in the oil pan except for maybe some bad castings, its hard to say how long they were in there for. We put the engine back together and got it fire up for the first time last weekend. Going to run it a few hours then pull the oil filter off and look for anymore pieces. Its kinda a mystery but the engine showed very little wear, should be back flying in a week or two.

Is MFI mechanical fuel injection? I have the throttle body injection on mine and it seems to be working great after he got it set up.

That is what we thought Mike, looked like someone tapped a hole ,maybe its been there since the engine was rebuilt, I should of pulled the pan when I bought the engine but never thought of it, I will be inspecting the oil filter on every oil change from now on.Ed , Karlo Kunner built this engine and redrive,I had his number but he must of changed it, no longer in service

    Soob engine trouble
After 20hrs on the engine since I have owned it I decided to pull the oil pan off since the gasket was no longer sealing and was just going to silicone back up .once I got it off and looked inside it wasn't pretty , alot of chunks of aluminum were laying in the bottom.I cut open the oil filter and it to was loaded with aluminum bits. We tore the engine right down  and have not found anything damaged. The gear reduction was inspected and also nothing wrong there either. If the previous owner was telling the truth there is now 220 hrs total on the engine and shows very little wear. The only thing we could find was maybe a poor casting on the case were it looks like maybe some pieces may have come from. I'm am sending the cases away  guess they can pressure test them and look for cracks, Just wondering if anyone else has come across this mystery

Yep its a left turner,im happy as long as it keeps turning,im using the same air filter as the lycombings I think, its sitting right on top of the TBI. I have some baffles inside the straight pipes and its not to bad at all, they say it doesnt sound louder than any other aircraft when im flying over

Thanks Guys, Chris it is a crazy world for as many avid + that are out there and you ended up getting one also, I ended up making the firewall to fit the cowl,it is diffenently wider than what was intended for the avid plus but the upper half of the cowl was pretty close to the right width, the bottom half near the lower door area was a bit wider but it bends in enough to  get sucked in and not be to noticable. The toughest part was the windshield flange, I cut off that area on the kitfox cowl and fiber glassed in a new flange to fit my windsheild. I kinda wish I would of raised the nose a bit more but it does give better visabilty being  lower.

Im happy to report we got the avid flying hands off without adding any lead, I lower the front of the horizontal stab by drilling a new hole and that took care of the pressure on the stick. We threw the wheels on and went for a trip out to Quesnel Lake, heres a few pics

Ed , I think your right , it already feels low in the tail already when flying level so adding more weight probably isn't going to help, was thinking of trying to lower the HS but that also will probably sink the tail more down. What is invovled in leading edge extensions sounds like some major work.
Ken if you ever start sky flying you'll be head north ,it opens up alot of country in the winter,
Thanks Randy, hope to get a couple more trips in before the snow dissapears, 26 planes on skis sounds cool

I got a text from my buddy saying they were going flying so I had to play hookie from work and catch up to them, I didn't have a chance to mess around with some weight on the tail but got a good two hours of lake hoping in. What I seem to notice is that it seems to fly tail low and still heavy on the nose, alls I can put in for flaps is two notches other wise im running out of elevator when I land. I'm kinda thinking it still may have something to do with the angle of my cowl along with more weight in the back, anyways got a few pics. We had 5 planes on skis on the one lake ,pretty cool

Weight came in at 766 LBs the forward CG was 11.73 and the rear was 13.66. I have 20 lbs of weight in rear baggage  but I notice Randy is packing 50 lbs so maybe I should try that first.

Im pretty sure the flaps are fully retracted and at  degrees-3 when fully off, there is 2 adjustment holes for the horizontal stab but im in the lowest hole right now, was thinking also of try to drill one more hole lower but not sure theres enough room for that. Just figure that it must be something else since there a few avids with the soob flying and not seeming to have this problem. I will probably try the trim tab but would like to figure out the problem ,in case its just the angle of my cowl. In level flight it diffently has a nose down attitude

Well I got my horizontal stabilizer straight  and it helped quite a bit but still needing back pressure on the stick to fly level, I am wondering if the kitfox cowl I fit on has to much downward tendancy, my computer with the pictures of the plane packed it in so waiting to get it fix so I can't post any new pictures but if you look at  the pics in the previous post let me know what you guys think. I was wondering if its a bad idea to fly the plane without the cowl on it, that way I could tell if my theory is correct, just not  sure if there would be any problems doing this for a short flight

Hi Ed , its a Rotec TB! -40  ,they are out of Austraila and it was around $650.00, it wasn't cheep but seems to be working well and I didn't have much room under the cowl.I didnt fly it with a regular carb so not sure of the performance differences but it got lots of good reviews

Thats great dynomike, I would like to do it that way as well but I am running a TBI with a filter directly on top with no were to plumb the line in so I am going to get my brother to fab up a air/oil seperator and attach to the fire wall,at least it should stop it from blowing all over
