Pretty sure its pushing it straight threw the air filter,I have a hose clamp holding it on to the  valve cover outlet, I think originally it was routed back into the engine to get rid of by pass oils but I could be wrong.

    Soob air oil seperator
Ive  got  a few hours on my soob now but am having a problem with the oil blowing out of the small air filter I have on the valve cover. The other valve cover has the pvc valve in it. From researching it sounds like I need a air oil seperator ,just wondering what you other soob jockeys have for a breather set up, think were going to try and build a seperator but maybe there's another solution.

The redrive is a 2.58 gear reduction built by Karlo Kunner, he used to do the soob conversions but is retired out in Quebec now, I would throw in a picture but my computer died that has those pictures on it

I have a soob in my avid plus and manage to keep the battery as far back as I could reach to avoid having to put any lead in the back. It has a gear redrive on it and cruise about 85 mph at 4100 rpm. I only got  it flying last month and have only about 4 hours on it so far. It doesnt  jump off the ground as fast as the kitfox with a 582 in it but that could also be me not used of it yet, but I believe it outclimbs or at least as good as the kitfox.Still got some tweating to get it to fly hands off yet but I have nothing bad to say about the soob.

Jim, unfortunately im not going to be much help on registering your avid, the fuselage was cover on mine and is now still register as the avid c, I think my option is to re register it as a basic ultralight ,im in the process of having the subaru engine allowed and I believe without any paper work from the  manufacture I dont have any options of increasing my gross weight even though i believe it is the same HH wing the was on the Mark 1V

Hey Randy , its good to know yours can fly hands off, raising the angle of the motor diffenently got rid of alot of the back pressure on the elevator, the HS struts came off a model C , and diffenently warps the forward of HS up and the rear down.I dont have a trim  on my avid but looks like i'll be trying to install one, hopefully I can do something  with a cable, thanks for the info

Hey Doug thanks alot for that info,it was about 2 degrees down but it seem to pull the nose down when I hit the throttle which really felt wrong, when i pulled back on the throttle the pressure on the elevator was reduced ,by shiming the angle up  it helped quite a bit but is a long ways from hands off in cruise, I still need constant up pressure on the stick. I think my avid only has the 2 holes also and maybe  the horizontal stab struts are pushing up enough to cause the problem, more testing i guess

Well got a few more flights on the avid today after we shimmed up the lower motor mounts to get prop 90 degrees to the thrust line, it was low about 2 degrees  and helped quite a bit on the amount up upward pressure on the elevator. Unfortunately it didn't get rid of it totally. We are now thinking of trying to lower the leading edge of the horizontal stabalizer.Question for Randy or any other avid plus guys.Just wondering if you know what hole the front of the  hortizontal  stab is bolted to,I can see one hole above for adjustment but not sure if there is one below, maybe its cover in fabric if there is three oprtions. Also the horizontal stab struts look like there pushing the forward stab up and pulling the back down,im pretty sure these were off his avid c ,just wondering if you guys  used the old struts or had to make new ones,

Thats awesome news Chris ,I dont feel quite as bad now, hope they work out for you guys,  I had to do quite a bit of fiber glassing to make the wider  cowl work but had no other options  ,now as long as I don't have to cut out to much  adjusting the thrust line up i'll be happy

Hey Chris , yes it is the kitfox 5 cowl you sent me ,had to do some modifying , toughest part was shaping around the windsheild. I know how you feel looking for a cowl was just about the hardest part of the build, im  really greatful for you sending it but dont feel good about you needing one now.If you end up gong with a kitfox 5 cowl let me know and maybe I could chip in for it

Thanks alot Doug, thanks for all the help also was about 2 years ago you directed me over to the dark side, I think its going to be fine once we adjust the thrust line up a bit , it felt really good on the skis and soob seems strong. It worked out pretty well since we just sold the kitfox  about a week ago.

Thanks Randy and thanks again for all the help,i'll get some numbers once we get the bugs out of it, The Skis do have that hard white plastic under neath( forget the name of the stuff) and weigh about 15 lbs each with the rigging I'll have to measure the lenght and width ,there my flying buddys design and these were the first ones he  made

Well today was the  day did the maiden flight on my fat avid and im still here    , wasn't a very long one  but all went well. I do have a problem to fix and we figure its probably a problem with the angle of the prop. What happens is the more throttle I give the more pressure I need to pull back on the elevator, was a weird feeling  but when I brought  back the throttle  to 3000 rpm or so to land the plane flew nicely, I was told I need to shim up the bottom motor mounts and it kinda makes sense to me. We re weighed the plane after moving the battery to directly under the back of the turtle deck and finally weight was 763 lbs , i think we missed the battery on the first weight for some reason. The soob seems to have alot of power and engine is running well and the new skis we built preformed great.
