  1. I had considered keeping  and "rebuilding" it, basically stretching the fuselage And making it my own. I bought it from someone who purchased it from the registered owner. I think he might have been unloading a paperwork problem himself. I'll have to do some looking around and maybe I can get ahold of him (the builder). I think the gross weight is just over 900lb , with a useful load is about 450 With that Volkswagen on front. Another option I was given was to basically make it airworthy and I could fly it off private property. Maybe the easy option would be to sell it as parts to someone else.

  2. I'mm looking for a little advice.

As some of you know I own an Avid A model tail number 146 AF serial number is the same. Think I bought it maybe a year and a half, 2 years ago in the hopes of using it to get my license in. Didn't realize just how tiny these little fellas are. Anyways I made a major rookie mistake didn't quite understand what it meant when he told me that it's been deregistered for safety purposes.  I have no registration or airworthiness I do have airplane and engine logs. I've been told by a local a&p that I'm pretty much SOL getting it registered AGAIN. I was told my best bet would be to sell it as parts to recoup some of my money and use that towards flight lessons. It's a complete airplane  with a 1830 Volkswagen on it along with a good time 582 with  mount. So just looking for a little advice as to what you would do.

  3. This is a top view from the back side. The tape is where the filler neck goes. I have a kitfox dash tank that is nothing like this one. But this will fit. Haven't been able to look at the front but if I remember correctly there aren't any built in rubber mounts.

  4. These are all great. Thanks for the inspiration guys. I ended up finding an original dash tank. So the big one will be coming out and minimal gauges going into the small panel in the center.. maybe a small tablet with flanking gauges.

I still have my old KF3 panel that fits the KF dash tank (shown above). Not sure if the mount locations on the Avid dash tank are the same for true plug n play. It is pre wired for Rotax 582 if interested in making an offer.

I'll have to look and see the size of my opening in my tank. I'm going to have to fabricate mounts anyways so never know..

  6. If its an A model, someone cut the welded on mount off to put the VW on it.  Your mount lugs might not be in the same spot on your fuse as the b and C mounts.  Easy enough to fix it but something you might have in the back of your mind when your getting ready for the swap.

Jim chuck (I think it was Jim) sent me some measurements the upper ones seemed a little bit off but I'm okay with modifications. My options are pretty much, figure out how to increase the useful load to where I can actually fly this thing or sell it to someone who could really dial it in and find something better for my mission.

  7. I'm looking for a 582 mount for my Avid.

On a completely other end of the spectrum. I'm strongly considering selling my Avid A

With that Volkswagen up front it's just a little too heavy and doesn't really meet my purpose. Might be a little happier if I can put the 582 on that I have. Or sell all of it and purchase something a little more mission appropriate.

If anybody has a line on a mount let me know. Jeff

  8. Hey guys thanks for all the comments. Flight lesson number two is in the books as of this morning. Everything went fantastic. This time around was a 172, and for the rest of the flights for that matter. Couple spots got a little tickly queasy but nothing like the last time that's for sure. I really want to thank all of you for the stories and encouragement. I was a little skeptical there for a second thinking oh Lord I'm going to have to walk away from this. But I got it.

  9. Thanks guys, this is all great advice. I have my next lesson scheduled for Monday morning at 9 am. This time I'll make sure I pay more attention outside the plane instead of in. I'm going to power through this and get that ticket.

  10. Best pilot ever! Sounds good to me. :)

A friend has suggested some anti-nausea pills and even a wristband? They sell at Walmart? I figured I would have to power through this and see how it goes.

    Thanks guys.

  11. Hi guys, so yesterday I took my first official  (time in my book) but second flight lesson. I'm wondering how you guys dealt with motion sickness? Both times I flew I got a little queasy and nauseous. From everything I have read it's standard for a alot of people and you just have to power through? First time I flew in a Cherokee 140, yesterday was  a Piper sport Cruiser. Both times that little fella got thrown around a little bit and it wasn't enjoyable. I'm going to  fly a Cessna 172 and see if that's a little more stable. Anyways how did/do you guys deal with this? I'm a little concerned that I might not be able to power through and become a pilot. thanks for any advice Jeff

  12. Cant believe noone jumped on this, other than the worry about the engine. I got a hella deal on my speedwing for 12k. (unfortunately im going to have to rewire it so maybe less of a deal). 100hp, stol wing, looks in great condition.. thats a hell of a deal

it actually sold.  He had it on Barnstormers and I noticed it went a couple days ago.

That's a great price. I can start collecting when I have my GIANT shop.   :)

  14. Kitfox ran the engines with the plugs up, Avid always had the plugs down.  Kitfox mount is also different from the Avid at the firewall.  Plugs down allows for the engine to sit lower, and gives better forward visability over the nose.  JImChuk

     thanks again Jim.

  15. Thanks JImChuk.

I ran out and measured my mount. It was a little tough but this is what I came up with.

    Top is 8 1/2

    Bottom is 28 1/8

    Bottom inner 10

And inner bottom to top 9

They can be off a little become of the angle I was looking at. That does make me a little encouraged however because the measurements you gave were still within the mounts on the firewall. So I can definitely make a standard 582 engine mount work. Is there a difference between the upright and upside-down mounts?

  16. Looking for a little help in possibly identifying the bolt pattern on this engine mount. It's a Volkswagen that is mounted in the front end of my A model but it's not welded it's bolted. I'm hoping it's a pattern for something else and I can just swap out a 582 mount. Without fabricating something.

It has six attachment points. Two at the very top where the supports come from the windshield and then four across the bottom that look like they all connect with tubing clusters? Hopefully I can get these pictures to load.

For some reason I'm not able to upload pictures on here anymore. I did in the beginning when I posted my instrument panel but it won't let me anymore. I'll keep trying.
