    Coolant
Have a Soob EA81. Going to change out the overflow bottle, so thought I'd change out the coolant while I'm at it. Has the Dex-cool 50/50 in it now, orange stuff. It's supposed to be better for aluminum blocks, but have heard many auto mechanics cus it. Plugging up rads. I've always used the good old green stuff. What do you other soob guys and rotax aluminum block guys prefer?

    EA81 coolant bottle
Hi all. I have a MkIV with the soob EA81. I had the flow valve shut too far and temp got up around 200, not bad I know but it did cause it to spit coolant out then suck bottle dry when I opened valve more. The coolant overflow/expansion bottle is a 16oz plastic what looks like a hospital issued water bottle. (Can't get pic to upload) I've seen others use plastic bottles also. It just seems, well, cheap. I've found aluminum coolant bottles on line designed for just that purpose. The system looks like a closed non-vented type. There's no vent line to atmosphere I can see. Have any of you tried the purpose built aluminum ones? Any recommendations? Thanks everyone!

    Tundra tires tube size
    Hey all,
I'm switching from aero classic 8.00-6 four ply to the 8.50-6 four ply. Can't seem to find the 8.50-6 tubes with 90degree stems that fit my wheels. Will the 8.00-6 tubes work in the 8.50-6 tires? If so I won't need to buy tubes.  Anyone else run into this? Thanks everyone

  5. Elkonastick added a post in a topic Adjusting alignment on Airedale bush gear?

Thanks JimChuk, I read that in my builders manual on the stock gear. I can't see any options on the spring gear other than do it that way also. Something about intentionally bending your airplane freaks me out a bit but it is what it is!

    Thanks again

Adjusting alignment on Airedale bush gear?
So, my MkIV came with Airedale bush spring gear. Plane tracks to the left. I checked alignment today and the right tire has quit a bit of "toe in". Left is nice and straight if not a touch toe out as wanted. Any ideas on proper method for adjusting it before I start tweeking things?
    Thanks!

Thanks Randy!  Through this summer heat right now it still takes a bit to get to temp. Which is better than running hot I guess. I'll finish up the GTX 20-50, still one more changes worth, then look at the Mobil 1.

    Thanks again all!

It's had the GTX 20-50 it's whole life so maybe stick to it I guess. It's right around mid 400's hours and seems to be fine. No metal at last change. I ran 20-50 in our high horse V8's but not generating heat quickly wasn't an issue. I really appreciate all the input. I have a zero time EA81 that's been pickled to swap when the time comes, may start with a synthetic with it after break-in. But from what I'm told the Subs are easy 1000 TBO motors so it'll be a bit before I have to worry about that...I hope!

    Sub EA81 oil
    Hello all,
I'm getting ready to change oil in my EA81 Stratus. Previous owner used the recommended Castrol GTX 20-50. It seems pretty thick for such a small motor? Builder (not me) installed a ball valve on radiator supply hose and it's only open about 1/4ish. Was told not to move it as it has a hard time reaching operating temp if opened more. It will make 180 after warm up but takes awhile.
Stratus recommended 20-50 for a reason but seems like maybe a 10-40 might provide better lubrication during warmup and still be thick enough once 180 is reached?
I here tell Randy is the go to guy on Sub motors on here, lol. Randy? What's your thoughts on this if you don't mind.
    Thanks everyone!
P.S., pay no attention to the coolant recovery bottle, it's temporary

Size of bolts for flaperon hanger
    Hello all,
During last conditional my A&P found these screws with the locking nuts not quit long enough, should have a thread and a half at least past nut. Anywho, anybody know the factory size needed? Part# I guess. Will be getting them through aircraft spruce I imagine. Looks like I'll need a 5/8" long thread.  Have the original build manual but can't find a direct reference to the size. It's a 1998 Avid MkIV with the heavy hauler wing.
    Thanks!

    Hello,
Just bought an Avid MkIV with the heavy hauler wings. Start working with instructor soon. Cart before the horse I know but having an airplane sitting there will be my motivation. Looking forward to first flight and many more.
