Completely agree, which is why my search continues...but there is always a possibility that someone has a good one for a reasonable price.

EDMO, understand, I was just having issues finding a local radiator shop, as many radiators have transitioned to plastic with a replace rather than repair mentality.  I did find one and unfortunately, they weren't able to get it air tight...attempting the repair was causing other issues due to age and condition of the current radiator.  Whether it is liquid tight is yet to be seen.
I just really don't want to end up spending more on repairing the old radiator for more than I could pick up a reasonably good one for.

    Kitfox SS tailwheel selection
I have recently purchased a 2008 Kitfox SS kit that was originally purchased with the nose gear option.  Unfortunately, they didn't select the option to also keep the tailwheel, which is my preferred configuration.  What tailwheel is suggested?  I am leaning toward the more economical Matco 8" pneumatic tailwheel kit that Kitfox sells?  Ideas?  Thoughts?
    TIA

Well, it is a 2008 Super Sport kit, with a speedster tail, dual brakes, factory build wing, tricycle gear (although this will change quickly), with a 912 firewall forward and select fairings.  The kit was originally owned by Mike Bigelow and I purchased it from him this weekend and brought it home.
I am still on the hunt for a good 912 ULS to put on it, but if I don't find one by the time I need it, I will likely buy a new one.  I am still on the fence about using the original covering kit that comes with it.  I have no experience covering or painting.  I am considering Oratex and may make a pilgrimage to Sun N Fun this year to see if I can see other planes covered in it and to talk to the Oratex people so that I can make a more informed decision.
The things that are on the short list, that I still need to buy are the engine, the prop, the cargo kit, the tailwheel kit, avionics (considering starting with the Dynon system) and potentially an alternative covering system.
I currently have an Avid A/B/C model, but its gross weight is at 850.  If you put me and the wife in it...that leaves enough for 5 gallons of fuel.  The wife has seen some of the places that I have been taking the Avid and wants to come along.  That was the original driver behind this project.
I want to use this aircraft to go off airport with and to use it for more than a conveyance to the vacation, but to make it part of the vacation as well.
I am hoping to have it completed in less than a year, so we shall see how that goes.

Got your email right after I got back from the airport, bad timing.  The engine that I bought was not really set up for my Avid.  It had a side loading starter, where mine is to the rear.  Here is basically the system that I have: http://www.cps-parts.com/catalog/rtxpages/2strokexhaust2.php?clickkey=407759

If you are still interested, let me know and I will take pictures the next time I am out, otherwise, I am perfectly happy to keep the parts for spares.

I have one, but it is new and has a straight tail pipe on it.  It came with the 582 Blue Head that I bought for my Avid.  The exhaust that was on my 532 was fine and already fit the EGT probes that I had.  As far as price, I will sell it for 75% of new from any reputable dealer.  If you are interested, I can take some pictures.

Serial #22A-X01, Jabiru NA says they have no idea.  Believe that original serial number was around 165 and purchased in 1998, threw a crank after 9 hours.  Local source ended up sending the engine back to Australia where they upgraded many of the parts in the engine and assigned it the serial #X01.  Previous previous owner contacted manufacturer in Australia and they claim record fire and also no longer have a record.  He also indicated that he believes that the engine was only making 65 HP and when Australia  was contacted they seemed to think this was pretty good.  Additionally, no compression records before either 2007 or 2009, but since then, seems to have some sort of top issue about every 100 hours.  Other than that it seems to be a fairly nice well equipped plane, I just wasn't comfortable with the engine history.  I do have a line on a 2008 KitFox 7 that was never started....shall see where that goes.

  16. TSoftware added a post in a topic 912, Late Kitfox Weights and ??? Parts

I hope you get to feeling better.
The original pedal master cylinder bottoms were more of a slot and thinner.  The new master cylinders that were bought had a more round bottom and required the tabs to be further apart.
The plane hasn't been registered in almost five years and hasn't been flown in more than that.  The current owner is supposed to get ahold of the FAA to find out the best way to conduct the sale.  If it all works out, I will post pictures, but definitely going to be a bit of a project.

What are the rudder pedals for and do you still have them?  Are they set up for the new style of master cylinders?  I made a potential purchase today of a KitFox 2, where the previous owner got about half way through trying convert the rudder pedals to the new style.

    Thanks.

Looking for a ride in a KitFox 7
I am considering getting into a KitFox 7.  I have read quite a bit on them, but have never seen one in person or ridden in one.  Wondering if anyone in the vicinity of Texas would be willing to help me out.
    TIA

How much, where are you and do you need the complete system?  I have one that came with my blue head 582 that I am not currently using, but kept it around for parts.  The tailpipe extension did not come with the unit.

    Hours airframe and engine?
    Trailer specs?
    Out of phase 1?
    Useful load?
How difficult to convert back to a tail wheel with the grove gear?
Why not post the pictures here?

Have to also take into consideration that with Basic Med, people who were concerned with a medical can now buy bigger.  Just a thought.

That was my thought...wife decided she wanted to fly in something low and slow....My current Avid has issues with weight....being able to turn it back into a taildragger is definitely a plus for me.
